Excellent communication, beginning with their response to my initial request for information and throughout the whole project. The project manager and even the owner were available to respond to questions seven days a week. At the end of every day they provided a progress report along with what to expect the following day. They made regular visits to my house to inspect the work in progress. Even after completion of the project they stayed in touch to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. All the workers were courteous and professional. Each day they carefully cleaned the work and adjacent areas. At the end of the project a housecleaning service thoroughly cleaned and touched up. It amazes me how other companies and individuals didn't respond to my inquiries or ghosted me after promising to provide a quote. Importantly, ICO is local with brick and mortar offices in the metroplex. We hired The Design Studio to remodel our master bath in 2023; the work entailed removing the tub, enlarging the shower, adding a steam unit to the shower, tile and a bidet toilet. We were told the job would take 3-4 to complete; it was finally finished 3 1/2 months later. Construction delays happen, I understand that, but the delay became least of our problems. We had inspectors and contractors come back and we then realized we had much larger issues, which landed us in a lengthy, painful legal battle with this person. Most of the issues were around the shower glass and steam unit. The glass was to be floor to ceiling and 10 ft. high; it was installed incorrectly after many delays and breaking of the glass at one point. Rather than take responsibility for her subs she blamed them for everything and withheld payment to them to the point that one sub threatened to put a lien on our house. The steam unit took over an hour to get to temperature; we were told that was normal. Only after hiring an inspector did we learn that the steam unit was woefully underpowered for the size of the space, it should have been four times the output that this one was. The glass and steam unit were only part of our problems, we have incorrect wiring, substandard hardware and poor workmanship and mold beginning to form. Prior to discovering the full scope of work that would have to be torn out and re-done all I asked for from the Design Studio was a refund of the cost of the glass, we would get it replaced on our own. We were offered next to nothing in return so we decided to take it to court, a decision that we regret. We are not the type of people to sue, it is not something we have ever considered. We spent over 3 years in the system with delayed court dates, failed mediation and a large amount of money in legal fees. When we finally got our day in court the trial never started. The judge asked why we hadn't settled then suddenly she was ready to settle, AFTER THREE YEARS!!! After a very short negotiation between attorneys, we came to a settlement. The agreed settlement was far from what we had spent but at least it was over, at least we thought. When the time came for her to sign the judgement, she informed the judge that she would be filing for bankruptcy, leaving us with nothing except an expensive bathroom that needs to be remodeled correctly and a large dent in our bank account. I hope this helps someone make an informed decision when hiring a contractor, all of this and more are in writing in emails, text messages and public records. Be very cautious of The Design Studio, Tammy Hamilton or Hammertown, her company that she previously bankrupted.

Caution on using Carroll Service - what was communicated and what happened are two completely…read moredifferent things: I called Gabe Carroll on a Friday after seeing his Yelp reviews, looking for a quote on electrical work at a rental property -- we have renters moving in and wanted to make sure everything was up to code and safe. Gabe said he could come out that Monday to provide a quote, and mentioned I'd get a message from an automated system but told me to ignore it, so I did. Monday morning, one of his workers arrived before Gabe and began pulling out switches and other items before any quote had been given or fees discussed. My son was the only one home at the time. Gabe arrived shortly after to assess the work needed, then called me to walk through what he'd found and said I'd have a quote to review within a few minutes. When the quote arrived, it included a $149 service fee and a $159 diagnostic fee in addition to the repair estimate -- none of which had been mentioned to me beforehand. When I questioned this, Gabe said I had agreed to the fees via the automated message -- the same message he'd told me to ignore, and which I never opened. He sent a screenshot of a calendar entry with a checkmark as "proof" of my agreement. I had gotten quotes from other electricians at no cost, which is what I expected here too, so I could compare pricing fairly before committing to work. When I pushed back on the fees, Gabe became confrontational: he called the police (who, after speaking with him, apologized for the call and left), threatened to send my account to collections, and contacted city code enforcement about violations he'd found. I'm now working directly with the inspector on those items, which is exactly the kind of oversight I wanted a professional's help with in the first place. When I mentioned I'd be leaving a review, Gabe said he'd sue me for slander. My advice: get any fees confirmed in writing before agreeing to a "quote" visit, and consider getting quotes elsewhere -- several other local electricians will do this at no charge and not be so hostile in the interactions.
