I came to Tahoe recently and realized I didn't bring a pair of snowpants with me so I rented a pair here for $20. Otherwise, for those looking to rent a snowboard package or ski package, it's about $50 for one day. Make sure to use the 10% coupon they have on their site to save some money. If you have the time to do it, make sure to pick up your skis/snowboards the day before after 4PM. They let you pick up the day before so the mad rush in the morning of people renting equipment won't slow you down. It comes at no additional cost. You must return all equipment by 7PM.

Start Haus is the only place to go to get the right boots!…read more When investing in the most important piece of equipment for skiing, you want to talk to people who know what they're talking about and put you in the right boots. So when friends who live in the area tell you to go to Start Haus, you go! I scheduled an appointment (a must) to get new ski boots as my old pair were set for retirement. The person helping me out (name forgotten, sorry!) measured up my feet and wanted to know what I've experienced with my current boots. After a long discussion, he brought out a couple pairs to test the fit. After trying on the two and giving my feedback, he brought out another pair to compare. I thought maybe he was trying to upsell me on more expensive boots, but that wasn't the case. After trying all, I felt the second pair was the most comfortable and that's when he went to work! After 15 minutes he came back and had me try them on again and they felt perfect. Once I purchased them I felt happy with the whole experience... but that's not the whole story. After a few weeks I finally got to try the boots out on mountain. They were a big improvement over my old boots, but I had a couple press points by my little toe, so I went back to the shop afterwards to share my experience... they got to work again and altered the shell a bit to give me more room and voila! If you need new boots or you need to refit your current boots, don't go anywhere else!

They were a solid pair from a road bicycle that appear to have a sealed bearing, which is quality for certain. He also gave me some tips for a long bike tour that I was about to undertake. He was very honest and candid with me and didn't try to sell me anything that I didn't need, even though I asked him specifically what he would recommend to me. He mentioned the shop is largely for the community and is a charity of sorts. When I was there they had an open bike repair center - where you are free to use the tools they have to fix your bicycle. There were a number of children there taking advantage of this free service offered. A great place to stop by if you are on a tour and could use some parts/components cheap, need to use the tools or gain some insight from the workers there.

My recent experience was no different. Jonathan Van Patten came to our Loomis Pack 12 Boy Scouts meeting to teach the kids about bike safety and maintenance. The whole team (including Eddie and Tony) were nothing but supportive and helpful. The kids built their confidence and will be safer riders now thanks to them and better understand the rules of the road.
