Calumet changed but also didn't change. The ice cream place was like a little surprise! They had some classic flavors but also some interesting flavors. The staff was friendly. The decor and interior was minimal but I think people get their ice cream and walk around after. Would go back!

Top tier artisan ice cream with modern flavors in the middle of copper country? Not something I…read morewould expect, but The Copper Scoop is there to meet the challenge, churning out homemade ice cream right from the machines in the back of the shop. We arrived on a weekday evening, and although it wasn't particularly hot out, the shop was doing brisk business with customers moving in and out at a steady pace. The interior of the shop looks a bit sparse - only two tables and a non-functional freezer sit in the rather large customer area. When I first walked in, I thought the place had perhaps just opened but I was surprised to learn that they've actually been in business for a year. It's a good thing that the spartan ambiance has nothing to do with the quality of the ice cream! The Copper Scoop offer sorbets if you don't want dairy and also nut free and gluten free ice creams. Very forward thinking to appeal to a larger crowd. The only drinks available are Olipop or water, but it looks like they're working to expand their offerings. They also seem to have seasonal and rotating flavors, which makes it more enticing to visit again and again. Medium (2 Scoops), Cup ($5.5) - We tried a couple of samples before we settled on two flavors in this dish: Caramel Butter Pecan on the top and London Fog on the bottom. The caramel butter pecan is amazing. I am not exaggerating - so creamy, so rich, low overrun with no ice crystals whatsoever. It's thick and dense, staying together so well that my first scoop with my spoon accidentally flipped some of the ice cream onto the table. The caramel flavor is exceptionally rich and there's a distinct flavor and feel of butter on the tongue as it melts. There are pieces and halves of pecans mixed in that are toasted, adding a very nice nutty toasted element to the dish. This is easily in the top 10% of ice cream I've had (5/5). The London Fog is a slight step down, but it's still near a top tier ice cream. The ice cream is so fragrant that the strong citrusy spiced flavor of Earl Grey comes out just from the part of the Caramel Butter Pecan that graced the surface of the London Fog. I feel like they don't just steep Earl Grey tea leaves in the cream but instead they add additional bergamot essence, enhancing the overall strength of the flavor For some reason, this ice cream is not quite as dense as the former and it definitely feels like it has a bit more air mixed in (5/5). Both flavors are perfectly sweet - not super sweet so that the flavors really shine. Note: The flavors are quite strong. If you prefer some cream taste in your ice cream, you will be disappointed. The Cooper Scoop has some excellent ice cream and I would visit again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended if you're in the area. Bathrooms - One unisex individual room in the back. Overall rating of the food this visit: 5/5

DriveThru Depot - Baby Frozen Custard, Pistachio

We found this to be a strange name for a restaurant, but we decided to turn around and stop by. Double the ice cream never hurt anyone, especially after a long two days at Isle Royale. As the name implies, Drive-Thru Depot is mainly drive through or pickup only. There are parking spots numbered up to 10 so the employees can bring your food out to you. You can go inside to order through a door on the South end, but it's pretty much no frills standing room only. There are a couple of tables set up outside if you're interested in eating there. While we were there only for the frozen custard, they sell a wide variety of burgers, hot dogs and other food. They also have ice cream, although it's not made in house and is instead from Cedar Crest. We got the smallest amount of custard possible, just to try the place out. Baby Frozen Custard, Pistachio ($2.50) - The baby size is a 9oz cup piled high with custard, with the swirl spilling over the top of the cup. The custard is dense, creamy and smooth with a good sweetness level. It's not quite as rich as some of the top custard places, but handily beats out most places outside of the Midwest. The color is strikingly mint green; before our first bite we were wondering if they gave us the wrong flavor. But after eating it, we found a pleasant artificial pistachio aroma on the tongue. My best guess is that this is probably some kind of frozen custard pre-mix, but hey, as long as it's churned correctly, most custards are good custards. (4/5) Drive-Thru Depot is worth a stop if you're in the area for a quick snack. While we were there, it was pretty busy with customers lining up in the drive through and parked waiting for pickup orders. Bathrooms - Single individual unisex room in the small interior ordering area.

The custard is worth the drive from anywhere. The Pistachio is my fave and there is not a bad thing…read moreon the menu !

When the line is out the door - you know you arrived at a great place!…read more Food We had multiple people on our party and everyone left satisfied with smiles on their faces despite the rain. The ice cream was fresh, tasted delicious, with several flavors to pick from. The workers suggested delicious flavors that were the most popular. Their suggestions were on point. The prices were perfect as a good value for the scoops given. I had a waffle cone with black cherry and Mackinac Island fudge. My niece really enjoyed her fudge sundae. She ate it so quick we offered her another scoop. To her it was just realllllly good (and she was full off of the portion). I had the Black Cherry ice cream - HIGHLY RECOMMEND- for it had big chunks of black cherries and a nice mild cherry flavor for the base. It was rich and creamy. Mackinac Island Fudge is also highly noteworthy. It has a velvety vanilla base with thick fudge swirls that will even stick out in a scoop from the generous portions. It pairs perfectly with the Black Cherry. The workers mentioned it is very popular. Cleanliness The floor was even clean even though it was super busy. They used clean scoopers for the ice cream. The workers appeared to follow all food safety guidelines (and go above for cleanliness). They took extra time to wear gloves and go above and beyond for our peanut allergy person. They ensured an excellent experience with their steadfast inspection of ingredients. This resulted in her enjoying her ice cream without a reaction. The bathroom was clean with nice foot pedals for the water dispenser. Service All of the workers there were hard working, cheerful, and friendly. My Uncle enjoyed talking to one worker about the sports she plays. We had several questions and the answered all of them. There was not a slow moment for them (line out the door); however, they kept up their hustle and friendliness. Dogs If you bring your fur babies it appears they need to stay outside. Only service animals are allowed inside. Overall, if you are in Marquette, Michigan, you need to stop or plan on it. There is even a nice flower spot around a cow for pictures. Inside there are multiple tables in front of a wall mural of a cow pasture. Highly recommend for all parties to take the time to stop. Several instagram worthy spots for perfect photos.

First of all, there are no samples very clearly stated by a sign in the door. Not super welcoming start. Then I opened the cheese case to check the price on a block of pizza cheese and there was no price to be found. Not on the package or the shelf. Put that back and went to look at ice cream flavors. We were seated having our ice cream when a couple came in behind us and was offered a free sample bag when they checked out. It looked like a small coffee bag but not sure if it was coffee or some sort of cookie/candy. Anyway, after hearing this my husband went past as we were leaving and asked if he could take a bag. He was promptly told they cost $3. Ahh, no thanks and we will not be coming back.
