What a great place to have breakfast solo or all gathered up with family and friends! Delicious melt in your mouth biscuits and fresh coffee and smiles throughout the place! Easy to find and terrific for locals or travelers!

Good food made from scratch. What else could you want? It's worth the drive from Houghton.

Excellent service, delicious biscuits! Try the "bonut" - biscuit donut so good! It is a bit out of town, but worth the trip. Cute place too

I travel for work, and when in the UP, I look for local businesses and local flavors, Sherrie's is a place I look forward to every time I head north. The service is fast and inviting, and the food really brings me back. The biscuits and gravy were amazing and paired with a locally made potato sausage was a great way to get the day started. When in the area, on your way past the tourist traps, this joint will take good care of you.

On the food side, the strength is clearly in the breakfast-style comfort items. Things like omelets, hash browns, and simple diner plates tend to come out hot and filling, with portions that lean generous rather than precise. The quality is solid but not highly refined, more focused on consistency and comfort than technique. Some plates feel better executed than others, but nothing really stands out as exceptional. Service is friendly and straightforward, but it can vary depending on how busy it is. When it is running smoothly, staff are attentive and quick with refills and check-ins. During busier periods, though, the pacing slows and things feel a bit stretched, especially with table timing and order flow. The ambiance is very much old-school diner. It is casual, bright, and functional, with a lived-in feel that matches the style of food. It is not trying to be modern or trendy, and that actually works in its favor. It feels like a place built for regulars, early mornings, and quick, familiar meals rather than long dining experiences. Overall, this is a dependable diner with strong comfort food fundamentals, friendly enough service, and an atmosphere that fits its identity, even if consistency can vary depending on timing and crowd.

There were NOT. It was a perfect bake, and I do mean perfect. Not a hard spot to be found, while still being done throughout. To top it off, both literally & figuratively, the icing was exactly the right amount. Needless to say, it is of self-worthy proportions. We also split a fish & chips meal that was tasty, and couldn't finish it, having started with the roll. I could stop there & be happy. These guys went beyond that tho, with fantastic service to boot. Drinks were never empty. We got regular check-ins without hovering. Seriously, the best service of our entire roadtrip all because we happened to stop in on a whim. There's a sitting area decorated up for season & staff offered to take our picture while the food was cooking. An absolutely adorable idea! Plus, very reasonable prices!

Our server was friendly and efficient, checking in with us several times. The food came out hot, quickly, and cooked correctly. The decor was cute, with flowers and murals set up all over the restaurant. They had many baked goods for sale, including a gigantic cinnamon roll. Tempting, but we were already full from breakfast. The food was all decently priced and we felt like we got a bargain!

If you have not had UP North Cafe's breakfast sausage links, you're missing out. I travel all over the world and haven't had better. The locals are extremely friendly, I envited myself into a group of locals who meet there to share coffee and chat. They welcomed me just like they knew me my whole life. The owner of the restaurant remembers my name and acknowledges when I come in. Again, I'm only in town a few weeks a year. Excellent Friday fish fry as well. Best in town I'd say. If you haven't been there or it's been a few years, the place has had some remodeling and is nice and welcoming. I'd give it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Try the breakfast sausage links, you'll be glad you did.

Up North Cafe was exactly what we were looking for, for breakfast! I had an omelette with sourdough. The sourdough toast was really awesome. My boyfriend had the corn beef hash with sourdough and loved the toast as well. The staff were very friendly. A clean place with a big menu. They serve breakfast all day too which is helpful! Overall a great place for breakfast with reasonable prices. They serve lunch and dinner too but we only had their breakfast. A nice place to dine with an up north vibe! This is what you are looking for!!
