The sign on the door said they were out of fresh pasties, but more would be ready in about 10 minutes. We decided to wait. The store smelled amazing. The service was extremely friendly. We sat and talked camping, until our pasties were ready. We were offered ketchup, but declined. Believe me, the pasties did NOT need it. They were tasty, buttery, and moist. My wife and I scarfed those suckers down quick! Definitely worth the wait and would highly recommend. read more

Have eaten dozens of Pasties in the U.P. over the last 25 or so years . AMYS are so good , not dry . The crust was like butter , filling was full of flavor. read more

I was at Houghton in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan checking out the area when I stumbled upon Amy J's. I had never had a Pasty (PASS-tee) before though I have heard about them plenty. I got a small beef pasty and it was delicious. In the old days of mining, pasties were what the miners would eat as they were very hearty and provided a nice amount of calories as well as a good amount of protein and carbs while being very tasty at the same time. The taste was a bit of a cross between a pot pie without the gravy, and an empanada. There are different schools of thought as to whether to enjoy your pasty with ketchup or gravy but in this part of town they eat them with ketchup so that's what we did and it was great. We also got a chocolate chip, peanut butter and gingerbread cookie and they were all delicious. The place is small inside but there is some seating outside which if it's a nice day out is definitely the way to go. While we were there eating cars kept pulling up one by one and people of all ages were stopping in for pasties so this place definitely stays busy! read more

Amy J's Pasty - Getting ready to enjoy a fresh vegetable pasty! - Bakeries Near Me - Hancock, Michigan

Holy moly! These are delicious and well worth the drive. I had the veggie pasty and it well seasoned flaky. It seriously the best one I've had in the upper peninsula. Staff was friendly and courteous. Hours are limited so check ahead before making the drive. They even sell frozen ones to go. Does offer two person sitting inside mainly a takeout place. None less a great place to check out!! read more

Excellent pasties with very friendly service only tried the bakery a couple of times but it did not disappoint this place is a must try

Excellent pasties... Highly recommend! Get there early as they do sell out. Quick and easy stop off the main road.

Block away from where we stayed - veggie pasty was out, but frozen was available so that we could plan another day (Amy's isn't open every day so plan accordingly). Cookies were great - next time, we'll pickup a loaf of Nisu bread at the start of our visit. Cold sodas in the case complete your meal to go. read more

We are always in search of a great pasty while in the U.P. This one was outstanding, nice shape and crust and perfect amount of seasonings. Nice picnic table outside. read more

Amy J's Pasty - Outside - Bakeries Near Me - Hancock, Michigan

Had to make a stop here in my birthday. Loved all of the pasty's. We got one of each and shared. Excellent staff and a nice location!

Great pasties! These are sliced potatoes with seasoned shaved meat and just enough veggies. No gravy. Great crust at just the right amount of thickness. The large is more than enough for one hungry adult, and at $6.50 that's a great deal imho. Don't skip the homemade cookies, either! read more

What a great pasty! We sampled maybe 10-12 different pasty shops across the UP and northern LP and this was the favorite. We loved that the potatoes were sliced and you could eat them without the filling all falling out. Good balance between beef and veggies, crust was thin & didn't overwhelm the filling. read more

We had their traditional pasties and they were delicious. A great portion for the price as well! Amy J is so kind and provides great service. This will be our go to pasty place here! read more

Got there right after opening and there was a small line. Seemed like most of the people there knew the place well. I ordered a large beef pasty and it was excellent - just came out of the oven. It was a large portion but too good to not finish. Located just outside of Hancock in a really cute building. Would definitely go there again! read more

Delicious pasty, and out of this world, delicious cookies... especially the lemon blueberry.... and the cinnamon rolls.... the very best, loaded with cinnamon and perfect texture (not dry)! Try all of it! You won't be disappointed! The only disappointment is when you eat the last bite and you live 500 miles away and have to wait forever to get sone more. read more

The best cinnamon rolls anywhere, and there is plenty of competition around here. Everything is homemade. If you are thinking of a gift for a friend or a customer, treats from Amy J's will be memorable. read more

Seriously--GO HERE. Amy J is the nicest woman and takes care of her customers. She used to give us free cookies and her pasties are excellent. The location looks (or is?) like a house, but it's separate from her actual home kitchen. It's definitely got the homemade touch and worth trying if you haven't been! read more

Great veggie pasty. Lots of potatoes but good flavor and good crust. Potatoes sliced like scalloped potatoes instead if chunks. read more

I'm so glad we stopped here - Amy J's pasties were easily the best pasties we tried during our week long trip across the upper peninsula - Perfect crust - delicious beef - good flavorful filling. We ate them at the one little table in the shop and were impressed with the number of locals who were coming in for bread, pasties, and cookies. The snicker-doodle we had was also delicious. If you are headed up to the Keweenaw I would highly recommend stocking up on these pasties when you run through Hancock. If you want to try authentic pasties these are as authentic and delicious as they get. read more

My wife and I were on a motorcycle trip into the keeweenaw and on our way home we stopped in Houghton and asked who had the best Pastys and we were told Amy J has the best. So we turned around and went back across the bridge and up the hill to Amy J's. I'm a kind of picky with my food and I can tell you that my Pasty and my cookies were amazing. Well worth turning around for. Thanks Amy ! read more
