My favorite coffee shop in the U.P. (and maybe all of Michigan). I've tried probably at least 75% percent of the coffee menu, and it's all fabulous. My go-to is the honeysuckle latte, which is delicious. Today, I tried the white chocolate cardamom latte and it was so good, definitely would get again. I also had the avocado toastie, which I order every time, since it is the best avocado toast I've ever had (my qualifications: I have avocado toast every morning, and always order it when it's on the menu). Additionally, it has a funky vibe with all of the mismatched chairs and it's super cute in there. I had the luxury of sitting in the bean bag chairs today and they were cozy. Lastly, I highly recommend taking some of their beans home with you - my fave is always the roaster's choice, with northwoods being a close runner-up. They will even grind the beans for you if you need them ground. Overall, this place is a 10/10, I couldn't recommend it more. read more

Very interesting coffee house in the downtown section of Calumet. Traveling around the north western UP this week, we enjoy choosing a new local coffee shop each day and comparing their mochas. This 16 oz mocha in a ceramic mug looked creamy and chocolaty with cocoa sprinkled on top. The taste was wonderful; rich and not too sweet. It fell short of five stars due to the heat; it was warm but not hot enough. My husband said he would have given it a five stars rating anyway as the mug might make it less hot than a cup; he really enjoyed the flavor. The cafe is large with lots of room to sit and interesting items and art to explore. Liked the unisex bathrooms and the friendly staff. The place was clean. Traveled to copper harbor for a long weekend. On our way out we stopped. I hadn't had my normal morning iced mochas and was crazing one. This is one of the best iced mochas I've ever had - it's my go to drink so I've had many from different places. My husband is also a coffee snob and he loved the drip coffee. Well done! read more

We got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cookie - it's the way you WISH peanut butter cookies would always taste like. Just magic and melt in your mouth and punched in the face with peanut butter flavor. The dark chocolate toffee doughnut is decedent, silky and cakes. Definitely shareable. Ok, this place is great. We grabbed a quick coffee and breakfast here to-go and had a great experience. I wish we weren't in the middle of a pandemic because I would have really loved to have hung out there a bit. The space is so roomy and cute and everything we enjoyed was delicious. I had the campfire cold brew which was a delicious cold brew "infused with an oak barrel concentrate and toasted marshmallow syrup" topped with a toasted marshmallow. OMG OMG OMG. I have been dreaming about this drink since returning to lower Michigan and I can't tell you how darn mad I am that I'd have to drive 10 hours to get another. I also had an egg salad toast which was simple but tasty, and a maple bacon donut which was *drool*. They also had a nice selection of items for purchase from local purveyors so we picked up a bottle of bourbon barrel maple syrup that we've been enjoying with our breakfasts a home ever since. The staff was all masked and proper precautions were taken so I felt safe heading in to order and carryout. Checking out their website to refresh my memory on the beverage I just discovered that they have a website where you can purchase some of the things they offer. We stumbled across this coffee shop while traveling through Calumet. While it was pricey the coffee, tea and breakfast were excellent. Although I did have to explain to the barista what an "earl grey" or a "breakfast blend" tea was. Once we got beyond the simplicity of a breakfast tea the rest of the order was taken with ease. There was a slight wait but nothing outside the norm for a busy breakfast/coffee shop on a Monday morning! My wife and I both ordered the Gravlax & Bagel Board and it was superb! Two stars for the great tasting coffee (not fruity)and the amazing atmosphere and shop inside. It's a slice out of the city on 5th street and it's lovely in there, warm and welcoming, and modern. Young, even. But three times now (hence 3 stars off) I've had impossible experiences trying to order a drink with one shot of espresso, or having a simple drink in an empty store take an AGE. But let's just go with today. I came in and ordered a single shot French Toast latte, which is on special today (Thursday 4/18, 1pm). It seemed like a simple request, but as the barista started to ring me up, he said that they make all lattes with 2 shots. And I said alright, just make it with one shot. He then showed me that they don't have a splitter or any way to give me a single shot. I said oh, just throw out half. He said he couldn't really do that. I said, well then pour half in a cup and I'll give that extra espresso to my husband. No, he said, he can't really just do that. By this point I was pretty frustrated. I said, is this complicated? I just want a single shot latte. That's all I need. He said, "well a latte is the Italian word for milk, and that balance of espresso and milk is what makes a latte." I said I know what a latte is, I was a barista for years. I just want a single shot latte. He said that if he only put one shot, then the milk would really dilute the espresso. Ugh. I then saw that they have 16oz to go cups. This is a first as I've never seen 16oz to go cups there. I said, "oh look, you can make it with 2 shots, put it in the 16oz to go cup, and just fill it with milk to the top." He then said that the milk would really dilute the espresso if he did it that way. I said that's fine, I don't mind, I like it that way. He then said that 16oz to go cups are ONLY for drip coffee. Their standard size cup for lattes is 12oz. By this point I was just staring at this guy like he was out of his mind. I just wanted a single shot latte, and was just about to walk out. I told him just pour out half the shot. Make it like usual in your 12 oz cup and use only one shot, pour out half of the two. Just do it. After I waited for it, got my drink and left, I told my husband what happened and took a sip of my drink. There was NO "French toast" in there. No maple or cinnamon, nothing. I spent $5+ on a drink I didn't want and an argument. The last time this happened, I wanted a single shot mocha. I ended up waiting 20 minutes for a hot chocolate because they REFUSED to give me one shot. I will never ever go back to this place, LORD AHH. read more

Super cool store, incredibly cool! Nice staff. Cool historical building with a lot of cool art work and coffee "gear" for sale. As for the coffee..not sure what it is about upper Wisconsin and Michigan, but people seem to like a watered down cup of coffee, and this place was no exception. I visited just about every coffee shop in the U.P. and every single one served a pretty weak brew (good quality beans though as when I bought a bag and brewed it myself it was really good). This may have also been the most painful experience I've ever had waiting in line also, standing behind two of the dopiest people that have ever ordered coffee in the history of the world, (a befuddled older husband and wife team). Don't be selfish slobs like these people were when ordering coffee or food folks. Here's how it went.. As I stepped in line, a few people ordered, and they were helped, then the next person came, and they were all served quickly. That was until this pair of dopes ahead of me decided to look at the menu like they were archaeologists attempting to discover a new language for the first time. Minutes passed as they asked stupid questions, and waffled back and forth while overly inquiring about things that should be obvious. Once they finally decided what to order..they switched the order. Once the order was switched, they questioned if the price was correct. Then the order changed again! Then they proceeded to count out change. All the while the long gradually grew behind them, and me..the dopes completely unaware the whole time of the chaos forming behind them. The coffee place might want to have an emergency register just in case something like this happens in the future. read more
