My favorite place to eat breakfast! I usually get an omelette. My husband has tried many different things and he's never had anything but good things to say about it! Portion size is big prices are small! The gal that work there you could tell they like their jobs very pleasant and really take good care of you. It's not fancy and you can tell things have been around for a while, but it's very homey and inviting. Their bakery items are also very good and incredibly reasonable. Prices were fantastic. Servings were huge. We saw everyones plates as they were served and they were heaped with food. A very unassuming place, we thought we had missed it because it looked like an office in a small office plaza. The pasty was amazing and kept us full for hours. The sign of a good restaurant is one that is packed with local folks. This proved to be true in our visit to Toni's. Almost every seat was taken, but there was just enough room for our family. We enjoyed a variety of sandwiches, but the draw had been the pasties. They did not disappoint! A perfect blend of comfort-food ingredients in a wonderful crust. Eric, TONI's Country Kitchen continues to make a Copper Country "Cornish Pasty" as it was made for over 200 years! This is the a RECIPE that our Cornish ancestors brought from Cornwall, England well over a centuries ago. Everyday they are made fresh along with the best cookies, tarts and crumbles in all of the U S!! My 15 year old grandson, Will comes to visit and his first stop is 3 blocks away! We're not from the area and were tourists for the UP and Isle Royale. This place was definitely a locals joint. They have a big production of pasty makers in the back with only one type of pasty: corned beef, potato, and rutabaga. Tis all. If you don't like those ingredients, you can order two hours in advance and they can make you something you like. The prices are from the 50s or something. The pasty with coleslaw was $4.50-- most expensive item. I had a grilled cheese ($2.50) with tomato and a side salad ($1.50). We also had a breakfast plate for around $3, I think. That with drinks for four people, $22. My grilled cheese was grilled on meat grease... vomit. Otherwise, it was all great! read more

I'm a first time visitor to Toni's Country Kitchen...and I don't ordinarily go around giving out Five Star reviews "at First Bite". BUT Toni's deserves one for the Best Pasty I had on our recent visit to the U.P. So, I'm just jumping right in and going large! Hubby, DD#1 & I met our nephew for lunch one recent Tuesday and Toni's Country Kitchen in Laurium was the destination. I'm a real fan of Pasties and no one in Kansas City seems to even know what they are! The one at Toni's is a hearty meal and contains actual slices of the veggies plus a great blend of ingredients that I'm still obsessing about a few weeks later. I was going to order it with coleslaw but they were out, so I just went with it plain. Turns out, it doesn't need a thing! Nephew also got the pasty...Hubby & DD#1 ordered something else...I was so focused on the Pasty that I literally didn't notice. But I bet whatever it was, it was good, too. There is a well stocked bakery case up front and the iced sugar cookies are huge, soft and delicious, the Cinnamon Rolls bountiful. The lovely little filled fruit pastries are also good. That day they had raspberry, apricot and prune and we enjoyed all three flavors by taking a little bag of bakery goodies with us for later. Toni's is tucked onto a partially residential street and has handy parking in front. It was crowded at lunchtime and it's very popular with the local population. Our server and the bakery staff were so friendly and helpful, so you will feel like a regular, too, in no time. The space is cozy and you won't beat the prices for a great value on a great Pasty...as well as the Cheeseburger and the Ruben that Hubby & DD#1 got. (see, I did pay attention) Just writing this review makes me hungry for another Pasty...but I heard they have already had the first snow of the season up there and I'm not ready to slap on the snow chains just yet! Can't comment much on the eating here side (although it seems busy every time I go, so that's a good sign), as I usually just pop in and pick up a dozen pasties or so. The pasties alone are a good reason to pop in, as is their baked goods at the counter - oh those darn jelly tarts and my lack of self control around them. Their pasty is the closest to home made the Copper Country has to offer. Just fantastic. I'd add a bit more pepper myself, but I could eat them every day. read more

Don't let the out of the way location or setting fool you. Great pasty and service from Kaylin. Locals eat here too and that says a lot. The pasty had perfect blend of potatoes, rutabaga, and onion. The crust was tender but I could pick up the pasty to eat. Don't ask for gravy because you will be told that gravy covers up a bad pasty. read more

My husband and I are from Wisconsin, and were driving around Michigan. Upper and Lower. My mother and her family were from there. My mother and siblings (6 of 9) were born in Gay. My grandma, Gertrude Nordstrom was born in Allouez on Oct. 30, 1890 to Frederick Nordstrom and Carrie Nordstrom. She married Charles Luke (Lueke). My grandma was an incredible cook and baker as they had 9 children. We were raised on her pasties. When we stopped at a gift shop in Copper Harbor I asked the owner where the best place that we could get pasties. She said Toni's and we turned around and headed back there. They are the best, and I found out the the owner's grandmother's recipe is what she has always used. And I found out that THAT RECIPE is what we have always used and my grandma originally got it from the owners grandmother. AWESOME! read more

My husband and I stopped at Toni's for lunch. We both ordered the soup of the day which was Bean and Ham. It was a generous portion and obviously home made. The soup was full of flavor and very satisfying. We ordered cudugi's but ordered one pasty after learning they only had meat enough for one cudigi. Later the owner/chef told us he makes his own blend and I can attest he has hit the mark. Served on a soft home made bun, without the usual pizza sauce and "works", we ordered it with fried onions, mushrooms and provolone cheese. The meat was flavorful out charred and enhanced by the fixings. This was by far, the best cudigi I have ever tasted, and I have eaten a lot of them! The pasty was good - potato was sliced not cubed. It maybe could have used a little more salt and pepper but by the number of take out ordered I witnessed while we were eating, obviously people like them! The decor was bland but the food made up for it! The prices were better than reasonable and we couldn't leave without a couple loaves of Povateca and a dozen cookies (the bake goods also, were. flying off the shelves) So, if you are not looking for fancy but want a great food experience, this is the place! read more

We were vacationing up north and felt lucky to find this place. We arrived after closing time, but the owner was nice enough to sell us pasties to go. He even placed them back in the oven to heat them up for us. While we waited, we noticed the wonderful baked goods. We ended up buying a loaf of cinnamon bread (which he uses for his French toast, so I highly recommend ordering that) and another loaf of what I'll call super cinnamon walnut bread--it was a yeast dough rolled out very thin and coated with a sugar cinnamon walnut paste, then rolled back up and cut into small loaves. Each slice has a tight spiral with at least a dozen layers. It was an Eastern European traditional pastry, and very very yummy. The pasties were a nice meal to eat in the park, and the leftovers kept well in the fridge and made a good snack on the long drive home. The cinnamon bread made such excellent French toast back at the cabin we returned a couple of days later for another loaf. read more

Definitely will not be back here. The food was ok but the service was awful. The waitress was socializing with a co-worker and we waited the entire time we ate to get refills. The wheat bread is actually rye and the food is bland. On a side note, they do not take credit card so if you still choose to go, be prepared. read more

Out of the way, but worth the drive. Inlets and eggs are excellent and sizable. The bacon has a smoked delicious flavor and there's plenty of it. Bakery goods are exceptional and made that day. Cinnamon toast is flavorful, melts in you're mouth, not too sweet, but yummy! Service is good, girls are pleasant, young and helpful. Small town restaurant, hometown taste, but definitely to be rated far above any fast food chain or greasy spoon roadside shop. We didn't have a pastie, but they looked and smelled fantastic! Whenever I am in the Copper Country, I always visit Toni's at least twice! Their pasties are among the best I have ever had. They have great breakfasts, too. I love the atmosphere. It is very hard to walk out the door without stopping at their bakery counter! Tasty goodies, I love the tarts! Was there a lot in the past however the place is to small and the service is slow. Some of the towns older people save tables for friends. So you have to wait. I ordered the special and they were out. So I ordered a Pasty. It had to be the worst I have ever eaten. . I am a Finn who have eaten a lot into time but this was bad.
