Office and Quality of care 0/10. Worst experience ever. Spouse went in for dental work, was belittled and did not feel comfortable. Got charged for exams and X-rays that weren't on the invoice. Submitted disputes with insurance and Lacey Modern Dentistry and then billed for different exams and X-rays not covered. Now I'm here I am speaking with debt collectors. If I could give negative stars, I would. Military beware. I hope they remove this dentistry from the network. read more

All 3 of our family members have been treated with respect, kindness, and consideration for our individual needs. The professionalism and caring of all staff really puts us at ease. All treatment is discussed in advance, and they make every effort to help you afford the care needed with several options for payment plans. We've had routine dental cleanings, deep cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, and bridges done here, and all dental work has been excellent. I had a horrible experience at Lacey Modern Dentistry and will never return. I was assigned to Dr. Philip Kaiser, though he never introduced himself. He briefly met me, then walked out and started talking negatively about me in the hallway--clearly within earshot--because I had eaten 7 hours before the procedure instead of the full 8. It was unprofessional, humiliating, and only heightened my anxiety. I was visibly crying and scared, and he showed zero empathy. No comfort, no explanation of the procedure--just a quick "any questions?" while he was already injecting anesthesia, giving me no real chance to ask anything. After the procedure, I woke up groggy and disoriented, and was immediately wheeled out of the room without being given time to properly wake up. Dr. Kaiser never came back to tell me how things went--he left before I even regained consciousness. The nurse gave me post-op instructions while I was still drugged up--I don't remember any of it. My driver only found out I was done because the nurse called but didn't leave a message or identify herself. She seemed frustrated when she had to bring me to the car, and while I initially felt like the nurses were being cold toward me, it became clear they were more irritated by how the doctor treated them. The entire experience lacked compassion, professionalism, and basic decency. I felt rushed, unheard, and completely dismissed. I'm just thankful I never have to go back. read more

Disappointed by Dr. Kim's lack of empathy. Came in with excruciating jaw and tooth pain. Was told to use toothpaste for sensitive teeth and come back two weeks later if the issue wasn't yet resolved. I saw another dentist for a second opinion just days later and was told that my tooth pain was referred pain from TMJ and I was experiencing a TMJ flareup. Was prescribed meds until jaw rest and jaw exercises remedied the problem. Such a difference in care and attentiveness can make all the difference in finding the relief you seek. Only positive is that the office staff were friendly and they were able to get me scheduled fairly fast. read more

Honestly I went in for a check up/cleaning and they told me I needed to receive 4 crowns and a deep cleaning. I was happy to do the deep cleaning but the 4 crowns didn't sound right. I've always used to go here years ago but their newer staff is very unwelcoming and it almost feels as if they are judging you. The x rays took longer than it should've and the lady who was examining my permanent retainer messed with the loose side and twisted it to stab my tongue and didn't fix it. I ended up popping it off myself since it was bothering me when it never did before. I ended up leaving with a crazy amount of papers that had pricey charges and I didn't get the cleaning that I was scheduled for. Going to cancel my appointment and look elsewhere. read more

I have had negative experiences at other dental offices so I tend have a lot of anxiety when it comes to any dental work. Though Dr Vargas was nothing short of AMAZING! Walked me through everything, was so kind and caring. I had my new patient exam and was greeted by the dental assistant Inajah. Her voice calmed me down as she's explaining everything she was doing, making sure I was comfortable throughout the whole experience! She did an amazing job with me, she clearly knows what she's doing. I found out I had an infection in a previous root canal performed somewhere else. It was pretty gnarly. They worked with me on it, explaining all the different options I had to treat the problem. I went with extracting the tooth. I was TERRIFIED to say the least. Dr Vargas extracted the tooth with no complications & zero pain! Amazing healing journey as well! I even took a nap in the comfy chairs (with a blanket!!) and felt so relaxed. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else & will be back in the near future. Thank you Inajah and Dr Vargas for your wonderful care!! I would 100% recommend anyone to come here. This place really disappointed me and my wife. We have been there multiple times and had a few crowns done each. The crowns don't go all the way into the gums now we both need to have all of them replaced by another dentist. You can see the crowns only cover part of my tooth and now having decay and bacteria stuck in tooth . Also a couple of the crowns we got dont even look like teeth. Looks like a ball of gum! Terrible! When I arrived, I was treated with respect by all staff, and Dr. Nyguen was compassionate and had a great sense of humor. My insurance didn't cover much, but Maria worked with me and was able to get it more affordable for me. She also helped me to get an appointment to have the crown replaced. I needed an evaluation for the possibility of two root canals. My dentist knows I definitely need probably one but wanted a second opinion on whether I needed a root canal or a filling on a second tooth and if a dark spot on my gum was an absence. I found an Endontist who takes my dental insurance at Lacey Modern Dentistry. They made an appointment for a week out. I did an online check in the day before and checked in with my dentist office that the referal and xrays had been sent. When I got there the receptionist said she would be right back to check me in. She came back 11 minutes later. I checked in and then was called back up to the receptionist because they said they didn't have a referral BUT they did have my dentist name and information that I never gave them, so they had to have received something from my dentist office. When I asked the receptionist what they received, she commented that she would work with what they have but didn't answer my question. The dentist tech took one xray that only showed the top half of the tooth known to need a root canal. She admitted that the xray was blurry and she said she should probably redo it but then said it should do. When Dr. Ishmael Hasan came in he said he couldn't tell anything from this xray and needed a bite wing xray which I agreed to do. He NEVER looked in my mouth, decided to not do another xray, and refused to say if I needed a root canal on either tooth. He ignored my questions about a possible absence. He kept saying he didn't know if I needed a root canal on the questionable tooth but wanted me to see a general dentist as a new patient in the same office and then see him for another evaluation after that appointment. I just saw my dentist and had full xrays last week. I left WITHOUT making an appointment with their general dentist and NO answers!!! I will NEVER go there again and DO NOT RECOMMEND unless you want to waste your time, money and dental health. read more

After a night of excruciating pain, I was confused about why I was feeling anything on an old crown over a root canal/dead tooth. I met endodontist Dr. Kevin Nguyen and he listened to my bizarre symptoms and figured out my allergies/swollen sinuses were causing the pain on the remaining nerve endings. He explained they don't deaden the entire root so as not risk damage to the jawbone. I left feeling relieved and they didn't charge me a thing for the x-rays! I will definitely be returning when I actually need a dental treatment or procedure. read more

My mom had oral surgery and dentures made. She paid in full up front. They don't fit and cause sores. She has lost a good deal of weight because of it. Please be warned that this dental clinic should be avoided at all costs! My 6-month cleaning appointment was rescheduled to stay with my regular dentist but when I showed up I was seen by a new dentist. I waited almost an hour to see the dentist and was expecting to get my teeth cleaned but he proceeded to tell me the normal cleaning would not be sufficient and that I now needed a series of treatments. Miraculously, within a couple minutes the proposed financial estimate was provided outlining the extensive treatment plan with a new crown added in. I have always maintained by teeth and have never had any prior dentist diagnose gum disease or a need for a new crown. I will not be returning to this clinic. read more

Beware of using Care credit card! I went to Lacey Modern Dentistry when I lost a crown on my molar the end of December 2022. I was told by Crystal Vargas I would need a root canal and they charged my Care credit card for the full amount before the procedure was done. It turned out I didn't need the root canal and had to have the the tooth extracted. I was assured the difference in cost would be adjusted on my card and as of today, March 1, 2023 they still have not adjusted the amount on my card. I have called three times and talked to them in person and still no refund. Moral of story: Don't agree to or sign anything to pay in advance and only pay full amount when the actual procedure has been completed !! read more

I just want to warn those of you who may be considering going to Lacey Modern Dentistry at 5122 Yelm Hwy SE. The last time I went there, I was ten minutes late and they told me that they'd already cancelled and given away my appointment. There were no patients in the waiting room. Today I went back and the first thing they did was to try to charge me upfront for something covered by my insurance. I had to insist they call my insurance and they had to drop the charges once they did. The second thing that concerned me was that I was told to put my dirty purse on the same counter as the clean dental supplies. The third thing I noticed was that there are no air cleaners in the rooms. When I asked, I was told by their periodontist that the air cleaning system is called HVAC and that it serves the whole building. That isn't an air cleaning system. It's the name for all furnaces. When I looked closer at the equipment in the room, I saw hair and dirt lying on the surfaces. Fourth, I asked for my x-rays to be emailed to my prosthodontist and they told me they wouldn't take x-rays unless I first paid for an exam by their general dentist. I'd already seen their periodontist, who took gum measurements and I call that an exam. That was a consultation, they said, and it wouldn't count as an exam that justified x-rays. When I then asked to just get my teeth cleaned, I was told that they didn't like my attitude and I was cancelled and sent home for the second time. Whew! read more

I'm really liking Lacey Modern Dentistry. The design of the office is modern(hence the name Modern Dentistry) and very friendly, but also very young staff. I think the age range is like mid-late 20's to early 30's. So I'm only guessing they're probably fresh out of college. I went to Lacey Modern Dentistry mainly because it's within walking distance to my home, the affordable $59 cleaning special and everything's digital which is nice. I haven't had a cleaning done in YEARS, so I finally had it done even though I usually take good care of my teeth. When I checked in, the representative stated that I was early(by only like 30 min). The office looked pretty empty, only one person and myself. I waited a few minutes until I was greeted by one of the doctors. We sat in the room to discuss the usual medical rundown, then immediately taking X-rays. After that I sat in the dental chairs and waited until the doctor and representative talked about payment and the go ahead for the cleaning. The procedure was done in like 20 minutes. Usually cleanings take like about an hour when I go to the VA, excluding wait times. Once I paid, the representative told me that she'll email me a receipt. I just really like their paperless format. I'll keep going whenever needed, but if something serious arises, I'd rather go to the VA because it'd be free. read more

I found this place as it was close to my home. I started seeing Dr. Koby in late 2017. Dr. Koby is a good dentist. Lacey Modern Dentistry is a horrible organization. The front office staff has changed three times in the short time I've been there. The system to remind me of my appointments has been off as well. The hygienist has changed three times since I started there as well. This last appointment I thought I had a cleaning, no, I had a check up w/a dentist that wasn't my dentist. No one told me I would be seeing a different dentist (one that I'm not sure has been there all that long). I did not know any of this until I showed up for the appointment. I thought I had a cleaning, nope it was just a check-up. Finding out it was not a cleaning, nor would I be seeing my dentist, I said I wanted to see my dentist and I wanted a cleaning, so we rescheduled. I want to be clear, I showed up in person, found out many things I should have been told over the phone, but wasn't, and decided to reschedule. I was told rescheduling wasn't an issue. Then, on the Monday before my appointment they left a voicemail telling me my dentist wasn't in the office that day so I was put with another dentist, again. Mind you I rescheduled to see MY dentist. This organization doesn't care about me, they care about getting paid and getting as much money out of me as they can. I've had some prep for implants, and little to no follow-up on my next steps. This company's only good point was Dr. Koby and it seems she isn't interested in seeing me anymore, or at least letting me know she wasn't going to be my dentist. She is now only in the office one day a week now and this means she's going to be booked out very far. I also think this is information they could have given me when I was there, in person, and rescheduled the other appointment. read more

My wife went in for a first visit, exam, x-rays and cleaning. . . . or so she thought. 90 min. later, no cleaning (despite asking and being told she would have one today). I had an appointment last week for a check up. There's several new staff including a new dentist working with with the other dentist and staff. I think the new dentists name is Dr. Kolby. She's very nice and warm. She is an asset to an already fantastic dentist experience. I don't normally care to go to my dentist. Who does right?? However, this dentist office is run smooth and easy. They keep the pain to a minimum and I mean physical and monetary. I often need a warm fuzzy blanket when I go to the dentist and this one is quick to offer one. It's not that I'm a child at the dentist. I get cold and kind of shocky depending on the work being done. Also,with my epilepsy, I don't want to get shocky, have a seizure and bite down on the dentist's fingers !! No worries, they put a bite block in! I highly recommend this dentist office. This has to be one of the most ridiculous dentist offices I've ever almost been to. They canceled my appointment because I was going to be 8 minutes late due to having car trouble. They said, No, I was 30 minutes late. They sent me a text at 9:36 a.m. saying my appointment was at 12:00 p.m. I then noticed a text at 11:43 a.m. saying that my appointment was at 11:45 p.m. They changed it and didn't even tell me. I called on a Wednesday and got in that Friday as a brand new patient... I can't believe it! They have an insurance specialist, Roslyn (sp?), who explained how much pieces of my care would cost and how my insurance covered me. Kynzie explained all the x-rays and what she was doing. Dali, the lead assistant, and Dr. Koby made me feel very comfortable, stopping when my teeth were too sensitive and explaining all the things they were doing (replacing a filling and fitting me for a night guard). A crown cap came off one of my back teeth. I called Lacey Modern Dentistry on Monday and was scheduled for Wednesday. This amazed me because I had called other dental offices near my house and couldn't be seen for two weeks or more. I was concerned about the cost and was quoted a price over the phone I could live with - $95 to reseat the crown barring any complications. When I got to the office I was greeted with smiles and good will. The dental assistant was well trained and very competent. She took two X-rays and prepped me for the dentist. The dentist came in, introduced himself and thoroughly examined my tooth and crown. He said most of the time a crown comes loose because the tooth has started to decay underneath the crown cap. Luckily he found no decay and proceeded to cement the cap back on. His assistant then took another X-ray to make sure the cap was seated perfectly. Everything looked fine, yay! I went to the front desk expecting to pay more because of the X-rays and was told the total would be $95. No extra fees at all. You can be I'll be back for all my future dental needs. read more

The office staff is very friendly. As was Dr. Kobe. They did great with my son. However, I take a while to get numb and that seemed to irritate the hygentist. She gave me shot after shot in a short period of time and then basically told me that me telling her I wasn't numb was in my head. She did the cleaning which left my teeth feeling like they had been sand blasted and when I got home there was still tartar in between my front teeth which I just got out myself. Dr. Kobe came in to do my filling and by this time I was so numb from too many shots my nose and under my eye were numb. She said I did take a while to get numb. She did the filling and it did not solve the problem. So I made an appointment to get a root canal. I was called and told there was an earlier appointment in Puyallup. I had made a payment plan and the person on the phone failed to say that if I took this appointment I would have to pay in full at the other office. So had to put it in a credit card. It just would have been nice to know before hand. Now the same tooth still causes me pain. I will probably have to have it pulled. So that is three procedures I will have had to pay for on the same tooth. I feel taken advantage of. Paying for services that did not work seems wrong. I have also never had anxiety going to the dentist, but after my experience with the hygentist I have a bit of fear of going to the dentist. It was upsetting to not have her believe me. However, the oral surgeon was very understanding about taking a while to numb. read more
