Sea Mar itself is encouraging patients everywhere to get vaccinated as we know that vaccines are the best defense against death and serious disease yet BOTH dental assistants at Sea Mar are unvaccinated. I happened to do my due diligence and ask the vaccination status of the woman serving me, to which the assistant volunteered that she chose not to get vaccinated for "personal choice." Upon requesting a replacement assistant I was a approached by this assistant's colleague who was confrontational and not only unvaccinated but anti-vaccine. Good grief. I was told by her in an aggressive manner that "it's your choice, leave if you want." I was careful to point out that I could not access safe and lower risk dental care today because of HER choice not mine. I'm absolutely stunned that In a facility that serves state Medicaid recipients (who have limited choices as to where they can go , this being one of the only places) the providers are INCREASING patient risk for severe disease and possible death. This isn't a craft store, or yard sale, this is a dentist office. They put their hands in our actual mouths. The Delta variant is highly transmissible. Vaccination is an evidence-based Best Practice. Those who choose not to be vaccinated due to opinion; which is not the same as Informed Knowledge, ought not to place others at risk with their reckless decision, and certainly not patients. Notably the vaccination status was only disclosed to me because I asked. This is abhorrent and I would have expected Sea Mar medical to hold their patients in a cautious light and most certainly in an informed one. Without knowing the vaccination status of one's provider, patients cannot truly give Informed Consent. I urge all to ask providers their vaccination status and not assume that all are making choices in line with science- which is odd given that they are practicing in a science based field. Further I believe that it is worth avoiding this clinic until Sea Mar institutes mandates for their staff with exemptions only for medical reasons. Sure, have your freedom and what not but acknowledge that your freedom to not vaccinate also comes with consequences. Oof. What a terrible terrible experience. And my tooth is still a mess because they couldn't safely serve me. Ouch.

When we got to the office, Charlene was absolutely delightful to work with. (She even orders little mini-chapsticks for the kids to use to increase their comfort during the exams! I wish my orthodontist had done that for me!). Funds were super tight after moving, and Dr. L was super understanding, compassionate, and really willing to work *with* us. We're in monitoring now for Phase 2, and will be continuing treatment here. My younger son had his first consult last week and received a bite plate today. Once again, I have no complaints (but a ton more praise for the staff... especially Charlene!) Dr. Leavitt should get a specific shout out for his tact: More than a little of my orthodontic knowledge is outdated since my braces were removed over 20 years ago. He NEVER corrects me in front of my kids, but waits until they are at the prize machine before he presents me with the updated facts. I absolutely don't mind my kids knowing I can be wrong, as I feel it shows them how to handle being corrected themselves... but I know a LOT of parents who disagree with me, and I respect him for this method.

They are conscientious and get the job done. A lot like Sickbay go in they deal ,if not find who can help you. If you are a Rural Vet who can't get into Olympia VA I would highly recommend you look into SeaMar Yelm on the VA Community Care Program. I use "Doc Fil" a ARNP and she is one of the best 2 "Docs" I've had in my life ( the other was a HM1) and better than any Doctor I've ever had.... She's the real deal.

Finally, I went to a pain specialist in Seattle who will need to build up my back teeth in order for me to eat normal again. Avoid this dentist unless you have deep pockets, a high pain tolerance, and like bad advise. Although I reported severe allergies, they continually tried to expose me to the allergens and even argued with me! They gave me poor advise when I had complications, and if I was in pain, I was often told to just wait, and it should get better.

Instead of showing understanding or working with her, Dr. Talbot chose to terminate her care entirely. What makes this situation even more disturbing is that when my mother needed her medication refilled, Dr. Talbot refused to respond to either my mother or her caregiver and would not authorize the refill. This left a seriously ill patient without necessary medication and no guidance or transition of care. This practice showed a complete lack of compassion, communication, and concern for patient well-being. I would strongly caution anyone who needs consistent, reliable medical care to think twice before seeking treatment here.
