Be careful. I was given a number/cost for services. I would think they would confirm with my insurance BEFORE giving me a number/cost for procedure. ??? Isn't that a thing?! Your estimate didn't include checking for materials covered???! Because they used a different material than I am insured for? I have to pay another bill (more than 50% of the payment I gave) - way to go. Thanks for making sure I would be covered, for the materials YOU CHOSE to put in my mouth. read more

Been a few years and work benefits kicked in (they take Delta) so I had decided to come here. I'd driven by before and seen the fancy cursive neon purple sign and totally thought it was uhh not one of those places for children, woops. Close enough I guess when everyone's sticking their fingers and probes in your mouth. Interior was nice, they put effort in making it a cozy little cabin-esque environment but of course that only lasts in the lobby. Similar to how they massage and give cows alcohol in Japan to butter them up before leading them to their doom. At Lacamas the "doom room" happens to be pretty good though. They give you sunglasses so you can look stylish to offset how silly you look when you're constantly staring up at them mouth wide open like a newborn bird. They also have TVs on the ceiling only Spiderman could've installed so that's impressive. You'll get to watch the food network so they can make you hungry while subsequently knowing you won't be able to eat for the next couple of hours. I appreciate the subtle sadism though. The X-Ray process is tedious as they'll take upwards of 20 pictures as opposed to my past experience of about 2-4, but on the plus side it'll definitely help some of you work on that shy gag reflex (Humblebrag: I only gagged once). My teeth aren't bad, just neglected. I always brush, but regrettably don't really floss. My work was mostly done by Kolby, as the newbie she was the deck-mate tasked with scraping barnacles off the bottom of the ship. One of the first things she told me was that I have some deep pockets and at first I found that to be a bit forward but then she clarified she meant my gums. So she got to the deep cleaning and damnnn she did a good job. She transformed my teeth into a channel 5 news anchor's, I'm out here lookin like Chip Skylark now with the unforeseen side-effect of singing about my shiny teeth and me. Kolby was very attentive, considerate, informative and FUNNY. She was able to hold a conversation well and keep me entertained (which ofc isn't her job) despite only hearing a version of English you might get from a disgruntled Ogre. @Mr. Bossman, whatever she's making, she's worth double (but I think at LEAST a 5% immediate raise is fair). And lowkey Michelle too bc she's like that mentor who journeys to the top of a Tibetan mountain in her free time who, when no one else can...she WILL. She found the spot to make me go numb that only a few people can ever say they've found. They said I'm special, which I already knew based on my mom and middle school bullies telling me, but apparently my mouth is more difficult to numb because of the placements of my bones and nerves or some shit, but they nailed it along with everything else! Anyway this place is great, the staff is great, the service is great. Will be happy to continue giving them my insurance's money! read more

I've had the worst experience with dentists in the past. But somehow I hit the jackpot with my first dental visit in Vancouver - thank goodness! My partner and I just purchased a home here so I'm glad to finally find a dentist near my home and actually enjoy the experience. Top 3 reasons why I enjoyed my visit today: -- they do not try to sell you anything!!! -- they have TVs on the top of the wall and on the ceiling -- the dental hygienist gave a thorough cleaning and educated me on dental care Hopefully I'll have a consistent experience when I return in a few months. read more

Don't come here if you have dental anxiety. I've always had a little bit of anxiety about going to the dentist but the last few years it's softened after I found a dental office (this one) that was understanding and sympathetic to my anxieties of it. It's so important to feel like you're feelings/fears are valid and understood when dealing with any sort of medical/dental procedure. But wow, this morning was horrible and I will never be back to this office. I got numbed and the dentist came in. He was very short and rude, and generally unwelcoming. He immediately started getting to work on my teeth with very little communication. First issue was I got poked in the side of my mouth by something and it startled me so I jumped a little, and he immediately looked annoyed. I apologized and explained what happened and he legit didn't say a word. He just opened my mouth and started drilling (I was getting childhood metal fillings removed and refilled) and it HURT. So I say something. He looks even more annoyed and immediately grabbed more lidocaine and shoved it into my gums. The initial lady that numbed me did it gently and slowly, he did it super harsh and quick. Then he left the room so I could let the extra lidocaine set in. Now listen, I was already really nervous and panicked for this appointment. And his attitude and manner toward me really hit some sort of trigger inside of me and I started having a panic attack. I couldn't breathe and I was crying. He comes back in the room, I try to pull myself together and lay back down. He begins drilling again. I can't feel it as much so I'm good, but my panic attack is in full effect, so my hands are shaking, my feet are shaking. He then says in a really rude tone "you need to stop moving your hands and feet unless you want me to mess up your tooth". Like dude, okay sure, let me just ask my body to stop having a panic attack and reacting to your absolute lack of empathy or understanding. He finishes and then leaves. Doesn't say a thing, don't see him again. What really sucks is I've been going here for a few years and have always had good experiences (I don't think I've seen him before. Idk, he didn't introduce himself so I don't even know how name) AND I've recommended it so many people. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but if you're someone who has dental anxiety, I'd steer clear of this place. read more

I have been to many different dentists, and so far Lacamas Dental has definitely been my favorite. They get down to business right away (without rushing) and do a great job. X-rays are super fast, and you just have to bite down on a plastic thingy-ma-bob. This office doesn't do mercury fillings, which is wonderful (though not all insurance companies cover white fillings). I appreciate how the dental assistants don't ask open-ended questions while working on my teeth; they understand a simple "uh huh" or "uh uh" response is all I'm able to yield. There is a television on the ceiling to take your mind off of what's really going on. I've never had to wait more than a couple days to get an appointment. The receptionist is incredible, she managed to fit me in December 31 so I could take advantage of my expiring insurance. I'm not sure what else to say... It's about 20 minutes out of my way, but I don't mind driving up for quality dental care. read more

I went in for a routine filling. I'm not used to the dentist not being the one to perform the filling but I'm hearing it's not unusual. A hygenist performed my filling. Immediately I felt discomfort. I came back in and Dr. Scheel told me the pain I'm feeling is not in the tooth he performed work on. I now know that it's common to feel referred pain which means the pain effects other areas that isn't the source but feels like it. He performed two fillings in another tooth he thought I felt pain in. Last Friday I called and said something is wrong and wondered why I had not been prescribed antibiotics. He had me come in again & this time he performed a tap test where they tap on the teeth to see the source of the pain. It about sent me through the roof it hurt so bad. It turns out it was the original tooth his hygenist worked on. He said the tooth is infected and that I need a root canal and crown but he has to send out for a crown so I have to pay for a temp crown. He also said he can't perform root canals on certain teeth. So I'm on 15 days of festering infection by this time and I'm in miserable pain. I called emergency lines of endodontics (a dentist that chooses to go to school longer than a general dentist) and finally found one that would take me today. I went in and they took xrays and did some other tests. They do crowns right on the spot. They said the infection has reached the bone and I need a specialist. So they sent me to a endodontist that works on their own teeth when they need a dentist. I learned a lot through this experience. I will never again go to anyone other than an endodontist that can do crowns in their office. Although I may not need that in the future, the fact that they can is a sign they are good enough to be able to do them. Being an endodontist means they went to school for a longer period of time and have far more experience working on teeth than a general dentist. What should have been $67 is turning into $1000 as my portion to fix this. Since this yelp posting, a staff member from Dr. Scheel's office called to what was said to be following up on my tooth on my voicemail; however, when I returned the call I learned Dr. Scheel wanted to discuss my yelp posting. The conversation began with Dr. Scheel stating I did not want xrays. I was surprised in the approach taken. Dr. Scheel, it may help you to have conversations with your patients instead of drawing your own conclusions based on assumptions. As discussed in our conversation, I recently moved here from out of state. Let's not confuse my prior dentist passing along my xrays as indicating I don't want xrays. When a patient is complaining of pain on a tooth your staff worked on, wouldn't it be logical to want an xray? Dr. Scheel also questioned whether I'm seeing an endodontist since it's unheard of, to him, that they can also place crowns. Again, it may be a good idea not to insult your patient and have a conversation before drawing a conclusion based on an assumption.   This office also performs botox treatments. If one would want botox, a dentist's name isn't the first thought to come to mind. What I'm wanting to point out is that it may be possible that an endodontist may be a part of a larger practice or partners with another to compliment services. Dr. Scheel felt it to be important that I know his creditials.  I think it's being overlooked that the hygenist that performed the filling, that the infection stems from, may not have the same credentials.  And no matter what credentials one may have, this doesn't make them good at what they do. One can pass with an "A" but can also pass with a "C".  With a total of 3 visits surrounding what became a very infected tooth, I find it interesting that I did not receive a call to follow up or check in as to how I was doing; however, I received an immediate call to discuss my yelp review. I mentioned this to Dr. Scheel and his reply was that they don't have time to call patients. Maybe this practice would find it helpful to revisit and revamp their business model.  As a result of this incident, an endodontist has needed to give me an antibiotic implant for the next 3 weeks to address a very infected tooth. And their office called me the very next day to see how I was doing. read more

The best dentistry in the northwest! Not only are they gentle and caring but they are also understanding. Having dental work done is one of my worst fears and they helped me through the process by climbing me down and working at my pace because I felt uncomfortable. This is a great place! A friend recommended it and so I drove over from Portland. It's a bit inconvenient because they are only open banker's hours, but the lobby is kid-friendly, the staff at the desk very friendly and helpful and the level of skill and professional advice I received was excellent. Had a great experience at this dental office. Wonderful staff and front desk. The interior is very welcoming. You got to checkout their fishtank. Full of exotic saltwater fishes. Definetly a relaxing lounge area. The hygentist is very thorough with her work. Everything was fast and efficient and handled with care. I got a chance to meet with Dr. Gene W. Scheel. I am so impressed with this dental office! I had another dentist for close to 20 yrs and recently had to change. Obviously I was hesitant, choosing a dentist is a very personal thing since they have to share your space with you. They were very accommodating from the start, easy scheduling, and quick check in time which surprised me, I'm usually ready to wait. The whole office is very inviting and the front desk staff welcomes me every time I walk in. Andrea is great, such a warm and friendly person that lets me ramble on as she's getting my scheduling ect taken care of. The hygienists are amazing too! I told them of my fear of needles and they all checked on me and made sure that I was comfortable. I also had my filling worked on by one of the assistants, which was much nicer than having to wait on the Dr. to come back which has been my normal experience other places. By the way, the Dr. is also great, very efficient and checks that you are comfortable throughout the procedure. All in all, I think this whole team is fantastic and they really work well together. I was able to get a hold of Dr. Scheel after hours and he came back to the office to look at my tooth and write me a prescription for antibiotics. I was so thankful. I didnt feel a thing during the drilling process and barely felt the needles from the numbing process. I am not very impressed with the botox results and paid $450.00. I have had botox several times in San Diego and this treatment is noticeably not too good. I am going to go back in and speak with the Dr. but I am not feeling very hopeful. The results just aren't there at all and this has never happened to me before. read more

His staff has always been very professional and are always prompt. My visits have always has been a good experience even when I managed to break a tooth in half. I've been here a few times before but today was my worst experience yet. I had an appointment set for 1pm when I walked in lady wasn't too welcoming at all. She simply asked me to fill out form which took me 4mins tops. Then I waited for 25mins without a word from any of there staff. There was a few ladies behind counter who were simply laughing and gossiping as if nobody was waiting. So I went up and asked for my insurance card back as I was going to leave and go elsewhere. At which point the lady who had my card said she was just verifying my info and asked if I still wanted to be seen. I expressed I was unhappy with there customer service and wanted to leave. She didn't say anything else, she than handed me back my card as I turned around and walked out. I will never go back nor would I refer someone here ever again. It seems as if there new botox business takes precedence over there dental patients? read more
