I started getting cuts with Russ back when he was in Silverlake about three years ago. I can't believe I didn't think to leave him a review until now. He's offered five star service every single time I go. I've kind of just gotten to a point where I let him decide what he wants to do with my hair and I always walk out happy. If you like bangs, you of course get free trims. I went with a very short pixie cut last summer and I LOVED it. I was worried about growing it back out but, Russ has made the process super easy. I'm always getting compliments on my hair. I should also mention that he's engaging to talk to and an absolute sweet heart. A trim here costs $80- not $55 for a square cut like is advertised on the website when you make an appointment. Major disappointment as you can get a whole new style for half the price if you know where to look. The atmosphere and small talk was nice, but certainly not worth $80 for a STRAIGHT TRIM. I came in to chop off my unkempt long hair into a long bob + fresh balayage. Russell listened to me patiently and gave me really good feedback, which pointed me in the right stylistic direction. Russell really took his time with my cut and color. I've had hairstylists who were literally in a rush to push me out the door and bring in the next client. I would recommend Russell to anyone but from what I saw both full-time hairstylists at H&H seem to know their ish. At the very end of my session, Russell gave me style pointers and encouraged me to reach out to him with any questions. He even told me that I could reach out if I wanted something adjusted bout my new hair in the next few days. Erica took my hair from a cartoony red to a gorgeous but naturally attainable shade. Her cut and color suggestions are always thoughtful and I leave the salon extremely satisfied every time. Moved to LA a year ago and haven't found the right fit in a salon or stylist... until now. Had my first appointment with Erica yesterday and it was one of those experiences where I had to sit in the car for a minute before heading home because I felt *so good* and had to immediately share with my friends. Overall, Erica is a super talented stylist and such a lovely person. I can't wait to go back. I left feeling taken care of and nurtured (sounds deep, but seriously!) and my hair objectively looks so good. You deserve to go here! I needed a trim and undercut clean-up and have damaged hair from box dying (platinum & rose gold from dark brown). Erica took her time and focused on fully understanding what I was looking for now (and in the future) and explained everything she wanted to do, why, and what next steps could be. She was even complimentary about my at-home dye job (!!!) and made me feel so comfortable by being gentle about the fact that not everyone can always afford salon service for everything. The undercut is on the side with the rest of my hair at my shoulders in layers and it's recovering from some cheap choppy cuts, uneven breakage, and a shave part that exceeds the round of my head (FINALLY learned why I thought it never looked quite right and always had weird "side bang" stragglers). The whole haircut is amazing and the shave part is on the mend with some added angles to help correct it. She added a rose gold conditioning wash on a whim and suggested I use that to extend time between full dyes (and let me take a pic so I could find it online). I also got a sample of some anti-breakage conditioner to try. She was so detailed she even cut the back of my hair in a way that it would lay easier to the left side (my undercut is on the right and I generally wear it where all of the long hair is pulled over my left shoulder). So thoughtful. I love that when booking you simply select either a round (reads feminine) or square (reads masculine) cut - there isn't short, medium, long, +++ at different price points and when she told me the total for her magic, I almost laughed (and teared up) because it was so generously affordable for how amazing it was. To compare, earlier in the week I had called another salon I'd been to twice to check on the pricing before booking this time because each time I went to pay there, I was always totally confused at how it got to $130, $150, but too shy to ask. Learned another thing from Erica: that's called an ala carte service menu. Didn't realize they were charging me $80 for a long haircut plus $35 for barber service plus $35 for a conditioning treatment, etc. A bummer, especially because I wasn't really happy with the services. Realizing you don't always get what you pay for! Who your stylist is and why they do what they do matters way more than the price point. Erica can charge twice what she does (and hope she knows that!) but she genuinely wants people to look and feel their best and understands hair happiness can play a big role in that. Her services are so accessible it's hard to believe. This is the longest review I've ever written because it's the best I've felt after a service. I feel very lucky to have found Russ. A friend recommended him to me nearly 2 years ago, after listening to me vent about the struggle I was having with my hair to that point. I had been jumping from stylist to stylist, never completely happy with color or cut, and it was really beginning to get me down, especially since I was beginning to grey so color had become a necessity. I particularly struggled with the color as I am very dark, it's been difficult in the past to get color that suits my pale skin tone, looks natural on me and doesn't cause a build up. Russ is not just extremely talented as a colorist and stylist, but he also listens to you and finds out what you really want and delivers on that, which I think is rare in this trade. After a few times going to him, he suggested I get a few hair extensions to thicken my hair, as I had expressed I wished my hair was thicker. Although I had many experiences that were not so great with hair extensions in the past, I went with his suggestion. And I couldn't be happier as they look so natural, when I tell friends and family they are genuinely surprised. The color matches perfectly, the hair is very high quality and they are all placed very well so they are never remotely visible. I've also recommended him to clients and friends who also love him. When my sister was in town I sent her and she was so impressed she commented on how she wished she could go to Russ. (even though she's been happy with her regular guy for years) He's also full of great hair advise and he's great company while you wait! I always really enjoy every visit. I couldn't be happier with Russ, he's changed my hair life! After spending a good hour on yelp looking for a 5 star hair salon I stumbled across Handcraft & Hart. I read all of the reviews and decided to make an appointment with Erica. I can definitely see why they have 5 stars. The shop is adorable with tons of natural light and plants and the people are so kind! Erica did an amazing job with my haircut. I wanted a trim because I felt like my hair was a puffball. She trimmed my hair and cut it in a way that made it not look so fluffy. This is the only salon I trust to cut my hair in La! I originally found Russ after I was left with a terrible 70's cut from a different local salon, and needed an immediate re-do. I have finally found a nail artist (Janis!) who I will be returning to again and again. Since moving to LA in 2015 I have been trying out various nail salons in the Koreatown, Highland Park, and Pasadena areas but have yet to find one I like enough to be a return customer. Janis takes her time, pays attention to detail, and gives amazing foot massages! I also love that she uses cruelty-free, vegan products and makes her own scrubs. The experience is relaxing with the only scents being those from the natural oils and herbs used in her house made products. During my first visit here, I received a phone call from my husband telling me my dog was being rushed to a local animal hospital ... Janis was super understanding and flexible, allowing me to run out of my appointment and rescheduling me for later on the same week. This is a small salon that I heard about on Instagram. I decided to give it a try and easily booked an appointment online. Erica reached out immediately after I booked my appointment. I sent her a picture of what I wanted (balyage) and she confirmed it was partial and not full balyage. Erica is incredibly warm and friendly I felt comfortable right away. She definitely listens to her client's vision and communicates the techniques she will use to achieve that look. I had a three hour appointment for balyage and a hair cut.
