It's a small pastry and deli store located on Washington blvd, conveniently not far away off the freeway. They have plenty parking in the shared plaza, and it's a takeout place as only a few table setup outdoor. The cashier was very kind and patient with questions, when I was indecisive with what to pick. It's so affordable here, on average it costs about $5~$10 for a few pieces of pastry. I'm going to be totally honest: this was the first time I had visited myself the bakery but NOT the first time eating their pan dulce. My family lives in the area so they go there more often to buy pan, so while I was visiting last weekend I decided to stop by and get myself a few treats. I bough what we call 'pan menudo' peoerechas, salpores de arroz, de almidon, cachitos simples, semita, honradas, negritas, pichardines, you name it. I bought tamales which were on sale. When I got back home, as I would usually do, I placed all my pan in an air tight container, cause I would usually eat these with my breakfast. My absolute surprise and horror came the next mornign when I grabbed the semita, which was PACKED IN PLASTIC WRAP, and it was HARD AS STONE. Not only that, the salpores, the peperechas, the cachitos were also hard as a stone. And look, Ive been a pan dulce fan my entire life, I lived majority of that life IN el salvador, and I have tried pan dulce from other bakeries here in LA and for whatever reason, the ingredients, the climate, SOMETHING here in SoCal makes pan turn into stone. It never fails. I could literally toss a piece and it wouldnt break it was so hard. But we power thru, dip the pan in hot chocolate or coffee. The taste is THERE! The pan was good, but the fact that you have to consume the whole thing the same day makes me not want to buy again cause I dont live close, and im obviously going to want to buy enough for the next day. Im discouraged now cause its really not worth it if its going to turn hard. And im sure many people will agree w me. The tamales were ok... not suuuuuper authentic taste, but pretty close. I wish they did tamales de azuca and pisques . I will give them another try tho. As I mentioned before, the taste IS THERE, I'll just have to buy whatever I want to eat that day and not save anything for the next day. read more

I originally went for the pupusas but wow! I left with way more. The pupusas were so good I asked for them extra crispy and they were so bomb! Oh but. I still gotta say that the pan dulce was next level. and reminded me of the one my grandma friend used to bring from El Salvador when I was growing up. I am Salvadoran and have ate many difference pupusas in my life this has to be by far the worst place. There pupusa are unreasonably thick and hard and taste like straight garbage. I would never waste a dime here ever an again they take sooo long to make the pupusas you'd think they traveled to El Salvador just to get them and on top of that they're disgusting. I'm visiting Los Angeles where my brother lives. He has mentioned this place for a few years. This is mostly pick-up. They have two small tables outside. Each pupusa is more than $4. That's high but they're the biggest pupusas I've ever seen. The place has typical Salvadoran baked goods and a few groceries. The fried plantains were delicious. They're served with cream. The pupusa was a bit toasted and too greasy. The curtido and sauce are served in tight little bags. They gave me a sample of the fruit salad drink. It tasted good. I was surprised to see they have arrayan drink. Apparently they get it frozen. I haven't seen it in other pupuserías. I had higher hopes for the pupusas at La Usuluteca. I've had more flavorful ones where the loroco flavor comes through at other restaurants. read more

I went to La Usuluteca because I was looking for great Salvadoran food and I heard they're the best. I wasn't disappointed!!! I had the pupusas which were perfection! You could tell they use quality ingredients. I also had a quesadilla, empanadas, and chocolate too. I'm so glad that I was finally able to find a restaurant that not only had great food but great service too! I really do hope they expand and open more locations because everything I ordered was excellent! The customer service was also very good and I was asked several times if I needed anything and if everything was ok. Very nice people and atmosphere!
