This place was recommended by a coworker, and she was dead on on how amazing it is. Soups, sandwiches, full plates, cakes, breads... seriously, whatever you want, they have. They open at 6AM, so we'll be back for breakfast. I issued my Chili Rellano test, and they passed with flying colors. The poblano was fresh and crisp... I had no idea until today that I had been eating soggy poblanos. The rellano was served in a broth, surrounded by onions, tomatoes, and cheese. So Good. The full plate comes with rice and beans, and corn or flour tortillas. My boyfriend got the enchiladas verde. It came with 3 enchiladas, plus rice and beans. $25 for all this food plus chips and [individual] salsa and 2 sodas. We will definitely be back for breakfast and to try their tortas. They are a torteria, after all. So their sandwiches should be off the charts good! read more

I am the breakfast burrito's biggest fan and my goal wherever I go is to scope out the best breakfast burrito place. I've been to at least a dozen breakfast burrito places in Monterey, Seaside, and Sand City and y'all this has go to be on of the best burritos ever. Especially if you're looking for something that you'll have for breakfast and then save the rest for lunch. I ordered the breakfast burrito mexicana and added chorizo (favorite breakfast meat, duh) and what I got was a monstrocity of a burrito wrap filled with things that made my taste buds sing. Now I know I have to come back and try the tortas cause thats what this place is known for, but if they're anything like the burrito they must be amazeballs. read more

Me and my Fiancè were visiting the Vision Quest Ranch in Salinas from LA and after a long drive and awaiting check in time we were craving some Mexican food. I came across this on yelp... and I am a big fan of looking at the pictures to see what the food looks like, so we decided it looked pretty good and gave it a try. I got 2 Sopes,one carne Asada and one chorizo. They are seriously huge filled with a lot of meat!! Upon arriving they bring chips and salsa so as we were starving I kinda ruined my appetite and filled up with chips and salsa so I was only able to eat the Asada sope. But it fully satisfied my belly! My fiancé got what was a traditional Oaxaca plate I believe it was called a tu... Ahh can't remember exactly...But it was huge!! It has black bean paste spread all over it, Oaxaca cheese, avocado, tomato, and your choice of meat, which he got Asada. I also gave it a try and it was very good! Other than that we got the traditional Mexican sodas in the glass bottles which are always the best! And I also tried their Agua De Tamarindo which was very refreshing as well. My only complain is that their salsa is not spicy enough but that's just personal since I love spicy salsa. I would definitely come to this place again if I were ever in the area again! read more

We are connoisseurs of of every screaming breakfast burrito from Monterey to Half Moon Bay but we didn't know of any in Seaside so after a bit of digging we came up with La Tortuga. Big awesome Chili Verde burritos with potato, egg, cheese and just a ton of awesome. The red salsa is the mild and the green salsa is the hot stuff. Great prices and they have baked goods and flan too. read more

I love their seafood & chicken dishes. I'm not a fan of their red meat. The chicken is seasoned perfectly and the chicken torta is a must try. Their fish tacos are also delicious. Be aware that their green salsa is extremely spicy, do NOT go crazy with it unless you want to feel like you're on fire (TRUST ME, I can usually handle anything). The customer service is great as well. A down fall of this restaurant is the parking. I will be back to try other excellent dishes. I recommend that you give this place a try. read more

Pretty unimpressive - especially when there are so many quality Mexican restaurants. I ordered the chile relleno covered in a very bland sauce. I actually had to salt it. However, my guest ordered her favorite -Garlic Shrimp and after sampling wish I had done the same. I bussed my own table! You order at the front. The drinkware is plastic coated, napkins (my tell on the quality of restaurant) thin and not absorbent. The corn tortillas I was served were simply awful - used them to feed the birds. There are three varieties of salsa...just okay and the chips were barely passable. I will go once more for the garlic shrimp. read more

Delicious ! I had La Cubana Torta and it was perfect. The torta (bread) was perfectly toasted and the meat was seasoned well. The sandwich was slightly on the dry side but I dipped it in sour cream, so it wasnt that big of a deal. On the downside however, the servers were slightly absent minded and awkard. Still, they were friendly. Maybe just shy...either way I had a grear (and quite large) sandwich for a cheap price. I'll definitely be returning in the near future for lunch! read more

Asked specifically for a chili relleno. She said what kind? I said just one with just cheese, the chili and egg. She said okay. When I got my food there was chicken it. I told her I got the wrong one. She said they don't normally sell them them just cheese. Then she said there's cheese in there. So I cut deeper and no cheese. When she said they have cheese ones just they ran out. Then she said she would check in the back to see if they had any more. Off she went. Another lady came by asking me hows the food. I said I'm still waiting and I said do u you sell chili relleno just cheese she said yes. I was like what the heck??? Shes a confused person...Hubby likes the shrinp ceviche thingy. I dont think I'd come back till the lady learns what a Chile relleno with cheese is. Hahaha! read more

A local inn owner recommended La Tortuga and it did not disappoint. When I saw the sample menu with photos upon walking in the door I knew this was going to be a interesting experience -- I did not recognize many items. A wide array of authentic Mexican cuisine was available to meet any craving. Proportions were generous and service was friendly. Will recommend it to anyone visiting the area -- much better than the overpriced touristy offerings near the aquarium. read more

This is quite possibly the best Mexican restaurant in an area packed with great Mexican food. Their traditional Oaxacan menu offers a nice change from the standard Cal-Mex at most places. I've never been disappointed with anything I've eaten here. And their desserts are outstanding too... the choco-flan is our favorite. read more

Sincerely puzzled why this place got such rave reviews. We walked in and it took forever to get service, despite them not being that busy. We were then served really shitty stale chips from a bag, cold with some very bland salsa. The wet burrito, chorizo and carne asada sopes were some of the most bland I've had in awhile...zero flavor, even when covered in hot sauce or enchilada sauce. Portions are huge, but the food quality won't make you want to eat more. I will commend them though on an excellent Mexican beer selection, though. read more

Good place to eat, just nothing so great you can't afford to miss it. It was crowded, clean, fast and friendly. We found it by yelping a place to eat. A torta and two burritos later, we were on our way. Total with tax and tip about $9 per person, without drinks. Torta was amazing and they have tons to pick from. Usually the ratio of bread to meat is way too slanted towards the bread. Not here, there is a reason it is in their name. Only down size was no red sauce to put in the burrito except hot sauce (Tapatio). Oh, and the rice was basic white rice with just a little flavoring, but traditional Mexican rice. I would surely go back and get the Cuban torta next time. read more

Today I had the worse breakfast burritos from this place. They are usually on point with their breakfast burritos. I ordered two breakfast with hot links and bacon over then phone. The girl that took my order repeated the order back to me "two breakfast burritos with hot links and bacon". I assumed that since she repeated the order back to me she heard what I told her and my order was going to be right just like any other time I've ordered from them. Boy was I wrong. When I get to the place I walk up to the counter and I let them know I had a phone order, I give her my name and she tells me what I ordered, "two breakfast burritos with hot links?" And I reply "with bacon". She looks confused and she realized she made a mistake. She told me that they made my burritos only with hot links and she asks me if I would like for them to add the bacon. I said "yes please," they fix the order on their computer and charge me for the bacon. I waited another 10 mins for my order. When I get home I noticed that the bacon that they added was all burnt and hard. I was genuinely disappointed, I've never had an experience like this before, I lost my apetite. I don't know if I'm getting another breakfast burrito from them anytime soon. read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican joints in the area. They have the BEST tortas you'll ever have! Treat yourself to the Cuban torta first, and then try the rest on menu, you will be so happy and your taste buds will thank you. Half of the torta is enough for a meal, they are pretty big! The molcajete is always a good choice, be prepared to share. The service is always great! And I love their chips & super fresh and tasty salsa. read more
