If I could give this spot more than 5 stars I would. I should have taken a before pic but all I have left is the aftermath. Hubs and I each got 2 tacos, his was beef I had chicken, we each added cheese. I had cilantro and pico on mine he had pico on the side and we each got the cilantro crème on the side. And shared a side of rice and beans. Those tacos were scarfed in a matter of minutes. I'm seriously looking around for other things to dip in the crème it's so good. In addition to being delicious food, the service was great. It's a walk up order set up, they make it as you order it. The staff was friendly and efficient. Very happy with our first experience. After walking around Granville Island for a few hours, I needed a burrito of some sort. Saw this at the food court section of the market and decided this should hit the spot. Everything seemed like it was cooked fresh, local and somewhat affordable. I decided to get your average, everyday, wet chicken burrito. I was pretty hungry so I scarfed it down pretty quickly. It was ok, nothing special about it with chicken with rice & beans inside of a burrito shell. A light, warm salsa sauce on top was ok too. Comes with a dollop of sour cream and some pico de gallo. The spot has relatively good food and i have stopped here a few times on my lunch break, however this one lady who works there gives off horrible vibes. I believe I overheard that her name is BJ, and if you've been here you know who i'm talking about. It's not a huge restaurant so the sound echos, and i've heard her treat other employees poorly before. Went to pick up some food the other day and I heard her screaming at someone so I decided to go eat somewhere else. Imagine listening to a white lady raising her voice and being rude towards her POC employees in a condescending manner while you're ordering your food, not fun. HR definitely needs to investigate this place. It has potential but needs major change. First of all, it's name is literally 'the place that makes tortillas" and there's nothing remotely close to that happening here as they pull generic wheat tortillas out of a bag and make bland overpriced burritos or bowls. If you're of Mexican descent, for the love of God never eat here as your Abuela will beat you from beyond the grave for the indignity that you've been served. I was at the market and wanted a snack. La Tortilleria looked promising so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered a small beef taco salad. It was the only thing I ordered and it came out to $8 after tax. The tortilla bowl had a nice crunch to it and didn't taste too oily. The ingredients were very fresh. The beef was good but I wish that there had been a little more of it. I loved the guacamole, salsa, and the generous dollop of sour cream. I often find the taste of cilantro is too overpowering in fresh salsa but that wasn't the case here. I realize that eating at Granville Island comes at a premium but $8 is a little too much for the size of the salad. read more

Had lunch here today and ordered the Chicken Burrito with black beans.... YUM YUM YUM! the salsa was fresh and the sour cream was pilled high. I was pleasantly surprised both at the portion size and the taste of the food. I don't think we needed to order the mexi fries but I get soooo excited around mexican food I just cant help but over indulge. So I decided to do one chicken and one pork instead. The corn shells were good and thick, which helped because the meat made the tacos a little runny. The chicken was my favorite; that one seemed more flavorful. I added black beans, tomatoes, and lettuce to my tacos - they seemed to skimp a little on the add ons, but not terribly so. For $7 CAD, it wasn't a bad little lunch. Next time, I'd probably get a side or grab something else from a Granville Island vendor to compliment it, as I did get hungry not long after I ate. Visiting Vancouver, we had to stop at Granville Island and walk around for a few hours. I looked online before coming at the restaurant options and I saw they had taco salads. I had been craving a salad for a few days and thought, for the price, I couldn't go wrong with La Tortilleria. I got the big taco salad with chicken for $13 and, the sign was right, it's the size for if you're "really hungry". I almost couldn't finish all of it because there was so much. It came with black beans, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole, and I added onions and jalapenos for no additional cost. The jalapenos were minced but I was looking for spice rather than crunch this time, and they're easier to mix in. We went on a Monday afternoon and it was very busy inside so we couldn't find seating. However, it wasn't raining outside so we enjoyed the outside seating and atmosphere. Visited Granville island today and had a craving for Mexican. Overall the food was acceptable for a fast food place. Food: I had a chicken burrito and it cost around $9 I think. The size was decent, and I are everything but the last bite. Unfortunately, everything is done very production line style with limited ingredients. Coming from Southern California, I am spoiled regarding having access to delicious Mexican food. However, this was worse than the chain restaurant Chipotle by quite a bit. Ambiance: food court atmosphere, not much more to say... Recommendation: would I to back? Nope. Would I recommend? If you have a bad craving for Mexican and are at the farmer's market area, sure. I had a craving for Mexican and came here. This was before the Elite event as I wanted something decently healthy. It is very $$$. $4.50 for a single taco! For fast food taco? I can get a gourmet taco in the city for $3 or less (see my Yelp Mexican list). Of course no one put a gun to my head and it was the healthiest option at the time. I got the bean taco which was nothing more than flavorless black beans from a can, some cheese and that is it....this is what $4.50 buys you. Been here a few times before. Food isn't bad at all. Unfortunately the service constantly is. There is a bigger, blond woman who works there and is consistently grumpy. This visit prompted my review. As I was lining up, I wasn't ready to order and allowed the customers behind me to order. When I was ready, she rudely yelled, "line up is back at the end." When I mentioned I had allowed someone behind me to go, all she did was smirk, didn't apologize, or even ask for my order. There are better places to eat and be treated than here.
