    Empanadas wrapped up
    Amber R.

It's right next to Marni's. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim who's the one making all of this happen. I came toward closing time and missed out on some of the flavors, but it's all good because there was still a selection to choose from. Jim makes them from scratch! He also stated next time I can call and he'll reserve the flavors in the back for anyone that asks. I loved how savory the empanadas were. The Turkey sausage was very moist and had a good flavor to it and the meat was balance all around. The Spinach & Feta reminded me of a spinach dip and tasted great and not overpowering. The restaurant has a grab and go style and there is some patio seating to enjoy your food there. I can't wait to try my flavors!

I went there yesterday and brought a few type of empanadas home. To be honest I LOVE them all. Especially chicken peanut curry, it's my favorite now. Best empanadas I ever had! Stop by you won't be disappointed. It's easy to find the place and it's convenient for the parking.

    BBQ Pork empanada, yum!

I tried this new spot today for lunch. They make and bag all empanadas so you can grab and go with them. The owner was there and was very friendly. Breakfast items were sold out (it was 1pm!) so get there early if you want one of those. They had bbq pork, Reuben and I think a peanut curry (chicken?) left so I tried two bbq pork. Very tasty, nice dough and I was full from the two of them. The bbq sauce wasn't overly sweet and had a tiny bit of spice to it. There are two tables to eat at outside and they were clean. I'll definitely be back to try the other empanadas!

I'm not doctor diagnosed, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck I bet all the fish in that contaminated marina outside the establishment that I have food poisoning. Lastly, the rule about happy hour in the bar to me makes no sense. Happy hour should extend to the entire restaurant no matter where you're sitting. I personally hate the bar. I hate watching the baristas on their cell phones texting whomever they're texting. I hate watching them huddled in the corner, not washing their hands. And I also hate the fact that the televisions are on and worse blocking the view. Is this a sports bar or is it a nice dining experience. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. It's very dark inside and I understand that is the vibe but come on now change the carpets. What do I know anyway? My daughters will be back, Sysco foods and all...allegedly. Brian was our bartender and the service really stood out. Drinks were deliciously made, the energy at the bar was fun and welcoming. It was a beautiful warm Spring day (73 degrees) and we were excited to eat with the great ocean view from The Beach House Seal Beach. Paid for 2 hours of parking and walked over to the restaurant. It was only when we entered the gate where the hostess is that we saw a small sign that said, "Closed." WAIT WHAT???? No indication in the parking lot, no sign at the sidewalk, no sign walking down the walk way. The ONLY notice was buried around a corner saying Closed. We were told they were short staffed and had to close early, sorry. As we walked back to the car, we stopped at least 4 other cars and told them the restaurant was closed. We were able to alert them so they did not pay for parking at a CLOSED restaurant. It felt like the restaurant had NO consideration for the customers. To have NO sign anywhere near where customers would be parking to notify us of a totally unexpected, unanticipated, highly unusual CLOSING at 4 pm for a restaurant that was supposed to be open until 10 pm!!!!! So I called from my car in the parking lot and asked to speak to the manager. When the manager got on he explained that they were short staffed and had to close early. I discussed the lack of notice to customers and how we paid for 2 hours of beach parking. Manager was nice and polite and totally unresponsive to the fact we paid money to visit his restaurant and now had no where to eat and were out the parking fees. I recommended they post a notice where customers could see they were closed BEFORE we paid for our parking. He said they would do it after they finished closing out. I insisted it was only fair that they notified their customers FIRST. So, as we were leaving we saw an employee come out and post a sign. I took a photo because no one would believe how inadequate their posting was if I just described it. The sign is micro small. You can see our car at the bottom of the photo. Would you notice this CLOSED sign? Come on Beach House. We know you can do better for your customers.

Bristy, our server, thoroughly explained the details of certain dishes such as the Mac & Cheetos. She also checked in on our table throughout the meal and came around often to refill our water. As for the food itself, it was very delicious. My favorite dish was the artichokes. They had a somewhat smoky flavor and the outermost leaves were crunchy and a nice contrast to the soft inside of the artichokes. They were also served in a tangy sauce that complimented the vegetable well. My friend's favorite item was the macaroni and cheese. It was chewy and creamy, and the pasta, which Bristy informed us was made in-house, was what my friend thought elevated the dish because it was a nice texture. We additionally ordered the gumbo which was also tasty but not as yummy as the other two dishes that we ordered. It is not a spicy dish if one is concerned about spice level. As for the ambiance of the restaurant, we enjoyed how the atmosphere felt casual and almost like you were sitting in somebody's house (the wallpaper and interior design is pretty) while still maintaining an elegant aesthetic design. If I was in the area, I would return to The Attic for dinner. My friend and I had a very welcoming and positive experience in terms of the service and food respectively at this establishment.

There is inside seating what looks like a converted house? There is outside seating at tables or at the bar. The menu was interesting which had a theme of shrimp; there was eggs Benedict with shrimp, but not an item to order a regular one without it? Sure maybe could have ordered and asked without shrimp but pay the same price? Pass. Ok when I called they mentioned they serve brunch until 3? 3:30 I can't remember. The server mentioned they serve the brunch all day? Either way when I got to ordering this month on the menu it highlighted the shrimp po boy. I tried to order and nope, out. How can you be out of the item highlighted as the special in the middle of the day? When the place is not packed? I tried to order the lobster roll and again, out. I was tempted to order their short rib poutine since in theory it sounded good, but at this point I tried something simple I would hope they have in the kitchen chicken and waffles. The plate came and it looks good. If you look at the picture at the bottom of the chicken you can see a dark something. As I lift my chicken I found a huge burnt piece of breading pictured next. On top of the chicken is green onion I think? Who eats that with chicken and waffles? If I am wrong, a garnish is totally unnecessary for this dish. The chicken was moist. There are spices in the flour breading I can see but hard to taste what it is. The waffle is a hard pass for me. The waffle was crispy which is good, but also thin and dry and I couldn't taste any sweetness until I put maple syrup on it. The syrup came out warm which was nice. It's clear watching the people at the bar this is a local hangout. The chicken and waffles were $19 which if I was in the bay I think it's about right, but I think a little high considering the level of food I got. Supposedly this place is packed specifically on Sundays. The server doesn't know why? I'm not interested to even try to come back for a second chance and just be told sold out of the menu.

You're telling me dozens of people are stuck waiting forever while there's plenty of room inside? It's giving manufactured crowd and poor management. To make it worse, they stopped serving drinks and turned the lights on at 1:15 AM, way earlier than literally any normal bar. So after wasting hours in line, you barely even get time inside. And it somehow gets worse -- at 1:35 AM they were literally kicking people out of the restroom. We weren't even allowed to finish or wash our hands before being rushed out. That's not just rude, it's straight up unhygienic and disrespectful. Overall, completely overhyped, disorganized, and not worth the wait at all. Don't fall for the line -- it's fake.

It was raining so we sat inside and the interior dining space took me back 50 years ago to sitting in a booth with my family when it was called "Little Ship's Galley". Obviously the new owners have redone and expanded the outdoor and indoor dining areas but the vibe to me is just as personable and inviting as I remember it. Alexandria, one of our servers, was so friendly and we also had another server taking care of our table who was just as attentive so our coffee cups were full and kept warm. Food: consistently great and generously portioned. You could easily share one meal but the birthday boy wanted the Country fried steak with biscuits and gravy and I narrowed my order down to a Mexican Omelette, subbing carne asada out for Ortega chili with hash browns and blueberry muffin as my sides. Since it was a birthday celebration, Mimosas and a cinnamon roll were obligatory and delicious!! Food reviews and suggestions: the Country Breakfast is huge and my hubby, former Texan, claimed that the chicken fried steak was as good as it gets along with the biscuits and gravy. My omelette was also huge and stuffed so much so that I could only eat about half, boxing the remaining omelette, muffin and hash browns to go. The cinnamon roll was so soft, cinnamony and delicious. I'd also recommend from past visits, the pancakes, waffles and eggs Benedict. To sweeten our breakfast experience, Alexandria brought my husband a Birthday Sundae with 2 spoons. Somehow we made room and finished the bowl. Schooner or Later is a great place to relish old memories and make new memories with family and friends. On a warm day, be prepared to wait because their outdoor waterfront patio fills up quickly. It was more crowded than we thought on a rainy day because the food is so good!!
