What a fun beachside restaurant! My family chartered a boat on a recent visit to Marina de Cantone and the captain suggested we stop in at La Tonarella. What a great experience. We all split an assortment of fresh seafood appetizers. Everyone got a pasta dish. And all split their house wine. Everyone finished with a clean plate and the owner even brought us out a crab on the house. The story of the restaurant is super. From the family owning and operating to the former First Lady stopping in. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting. read more

The food was okay, but the service was terrible. It genuinely felt like they didn't want us there. They took our order and delivered our food, but that was the only interaction. They never glanced in our direction. They tossed our plates down without looking where they put them. At one point, a server threw a bag of bread on our table after we'd finished our dinners. She was walking by, didn't slow down, and tossed a bag of bread in front of my son. When we first arrived, they asked if we had taken the boat from Amalfi. We hadn't, and after that, everything seemed to change. If you do decide to eat here, maybe say yes to the boat question. I'm thinking maybe they charge a table fee for the people who take their water taxi, and that's why they didn't want us there. Who knows. Overall, I wish we had gone somewhere else. I can't remember ever eating at a restaurant that felt so dismissive. It wasn't just passive-aggressive--it felt like they were put off by us being there, which was really weird. We spent a lot of money there. I'm at a loss. They were getting on very well with the tables near us. I loved Italy so much; this was by far the worst experience we had on our trip. There is another restaurant right next to this one on a dock. If you have the choice, I'd definitely go to that one. 5 stars to the one on the dock. read more

The food was very good, but the service was the worst vibe we've had in Italy. It was a bad experience and made a significant impression on my teenage kids. When our server came we were asked if we came by boat from Amalfi and we said no (staying in Conca de Marini). Maybe it was this or because we are Americans, but the service was an embarrassment. All of our meals came out at different times, the bread was thrown on the table as an afterthought in a bag in front of my teenage son, the plates were slammed down on the table, we were never checked on and when ready to leave we had try very hard to get anyone's attention. I would never recommend eating here unless you enjoy passive aggressive exchanges. If you do eat here tell them you came on the boat from Amalfi even if you didn't. read more

In the past, I've been known to say that there's nothing I like more than restaurants you pull up to in a boat. Well, turns out there's one thing: Restaurants you pull up to in a boat on the Amalfi Coast. Whenever you're on the water and you pass other people on a boat, you wave at each other. This is because everyone's happy on a boat. There is no such thing as boat rage. You're out on the water, it's beautiful out, and you have no complaints. All is right with the world. If you take that feeling and add the freshest, most delicious seafood pasta you've ever had, you get La Tonnarella. This laid-back beach stop at Conca dei Marini doesn't look like much. In the States, this would be a lackluster kitchen built just to satiate the folks who get hungry after hours of lying in the sun on beach chairs nearby. They'd have some mediocre fried seafood, burgers, and fries. Here though, everyone takes pride in their food. La Tonnarella serves stunningly plated seafood caught fresh that morning, beautiful produce grown in the surrounding area, and homemade pasta that rivals anything you can get in the larger towns, or around the world. The Paccheri Ricciola may look like braised meat, but that's definitely fresh amberjack flavoring that insane sauce along with olives, capers, and cherry tomatoes. The salads are well seasoned and along with the bread and some wine, the perfect accompaniment to entirely too much pasta for a hot afternoon. Don't miss out on their house specialty either; the Spaghetti alla Jacqueline is famously what Jackie Kennedy requested when she was staying in nearby Ravello for "the most beautiful vacation of her life." The simple description of spaghetti with courgettes (tender local zucchini) and bacon belies enormous flavors, and it's a definite winner. As is La Tonnarella. read more

Fabulous beachside retreat. Came by boat, they'll send a tender out for you. Freshly caught fish paired with pasta in a light tomato sauce (pomodoro-like). Nice wine selection with reasonable prices. read more

Halfway between Amalfi and Positano lies this seaside restaurant, tucked into the breathtaking cove of Conca dei Marini. Unbeknownst to me this restaurant has been dishing out fresh seafood and pasta for YEARS! In fact, until 1956 Conca dei Marini was the site of the only tuna fishery on the Amalfi Coast... Aka La Tonnara. In a the late 60s Umberto Lauritano, better known as "'O Bacchiss", had the idea to convert one of the "molazzeni" (the tonnara storage shock) into the wonderful restaurant shack that it is today: "LaTonnarella" Side Note: Jackie O was no stranger to this part of Italy and often took to this little hideaway cove to dine with Gianni Agnelli, her favourite dish is on the menu, a pasta with pan-fried zucchini, pancetta and parmigiano. Our server even brought us a plate of this famous dish gratis! Expect a low key vibe, diners in bikinis, dogs resting under shaded tables, the sounds of the sea rolling over the tiny rocky beach and wonderful seafood. read more

We grabbed a bite here after arriving at our hotel (Le Terrezze) and walking down to the beach. The location is excellent - situated right on the little beach at the bottom of the stairs. There are plenty of tables with a good view. The food, however, was lackluster. We started with the grilled vegetables and they probably had been grilled 4 hours before and were not even served warm. We also ordered the spaghetti alle cozze (mussels) and spaghetti with clams. Pasta portions were so massive you finished your seafood far before the pasta. Mussels were solid but had to leave 6-8 mussels on the plate as they didn't open. Clams were okay but nothing special. Overall everything lacked any burst of flavor or freshness. Perhaps a good spot to enjoy a drink, at most. read more

Spectacular views at this family run restaurant. In our short stay we ate dinner here twice, with a party of 8 we had almost everything on the menu. It was delicious! Pasta was flavorful and al dente, the kids enjoyed all of the fish dishes. The staff was wonderful. They brought us some complimentary marinated olives and one of the locals gave us some homemade wine. It was very relaxing. We chartered a boat from La Bellevita tours and they picked us up right from the beach, we didn't have to take the bus down to Amalfi. It was great, they take you out on a small boat to the larger boat. Everyone seems to work together. read more

I wish I could go back for lunch everyday! Our boat captain recommended this place as one of his favorites, and a great spot locals come to. They have a dish called "Jacqueline." It's their spin on pasta alla Nerano. It's fried zucchini with delicious cheese and pasta. This has been one of the best dishes I've had. Ranks in the top 5 meals of my lifetime (yes, that good.) This particular restaurant has a delicious spin on the dish. HIGHLY recommended. Coming back for more next year. The chef is an incredibly happy and kind man with a gregarious smile and firm handshake. They also serve a delicious wine with peaches. :) Perfect spot to have lunch after boating the Amalfi coast for hours. read more

Possible to spend hours here drinking wine and enjoying the view. The food is very good, well prepared with fresh ingredients. The owner likes to swing by with freshly picked basil from a nearby plant to garnish your pasta. Go with the house white, very refreshing and affordable on a hot day. Be ready to be patient, there can be a wait during peak times for a table and for service. read more
