We had to come here. It wasn't even an option. My travel heroes Rick Steves and Anthony Bourdain both came here. My wife and I came across this fine establishment on our recent trip wandering through Spain. The hype around this place is legit. It is a very small and cozy bar with very limited seating. It was fun to hang out with locals. Fantastic selection of wines to savor. The free tapas made the experience amazing. Each dish that came out was fresh and delicious. I only wish I could drink more alcohol to keep up with my hunger for food. After multiple rounds of drinks, we rapidly became inebriated and had to surrender. Overall the meal was a great experience, and we looked forward to stumbling home and taking our much needed siesta. read more

My husband and I just left there. Jesus took care of us. The wine choice he made for us was a 2010 Achuron crianza (Cabernet, Shiraz, Tempranillo blend), that was out of this world (we are on vacation from California). We also had the chef's tapas selection for two, along with the chef's selection of desserts for one (in addition to the free tapas that come with each drink). Arguably one of the best selections of food that I've had in Spain, thus far. Our hotel (Melia Granada) was less than a 5 minute walk, and we were walking slowly! No tourists, that we could tell, except those who are using yelp. The place is small and cozy, and there was no rushing at all. Every seat was taken. Jesus also gave us a sherry wine called "Nectar, Pedro Ximenez Dulce!" Tastes like raisin juice straight from heaven. Apparently they have a dinner restaurant around the corner called La Botillera, that we hope to try tonight. 4 glasses of wine, tapas for two, dessert and sherry.... 24 euros!! Jesus English isn't perfect, but my husband speaks Spanish (I don't), but with our facial expressions and grins... We were all very happy! Muy bueno!! read more

Why is this so highly rated???? Look: it's OK. The drinks are typical (to be fair, I'm not a wino, so I could be really wrong here), and the tapas are pretty bland. The vibe is kind of confusing once you're there; it's almost awkward. Cheap drinks: yes. 4 star worthy: get outta here. It's surrounded by other bars and restaurants, and it's probably worth checking out for one drink before moving on to another bar. Not impressed, but I didn't hate it. read more

Loved the atmosphere of this little place (warning - very little seating inside and no outdoor seating!). Also, nobody speaks English - not even a little bit - so be sure you know how to order in Spanish! My Spanish is pretty elementary - I learned it in high school so definitely not even close to fluent but I understand the menu and can order/ask questions about it. They brought us an English menu after a while which was helpful though. As for the food and drink, it's our first day/night here and we didn't do much food research beforehand so we didn't know that if you order a drink, you get a free tapa dish! We all ordered different drinks (the house red is great, they have a good variety of sherries) and received sliced baguette pieces with the most DELICIOUS tomato slices I've ever had on top with some kind of olive oil herb dressing on it + salami. We also ordered artichoke hearts with sundried tomatoes, and beans with ham - both awesome. Super flavorful and everyone loved all of it!! Great spot in terms of location as well - lots of cute places around it and easy to access from the main plaza area. read more

The people are truly kind here and want to make you happy. Tapas (appetizers) are served free with each glass of one of their 400 delicious wines. We don't drink but we ''forced'' ourselves! Although we were on a cruise ship we had to eat at a local place, if only for a short time and a memory. Every tapa we ate was better than the last, especially the avocado spread on toast. Went to La Tana for lunch. The man behind the bar introduced himself as a bartender, but Jesus is a master sommolier. (I happened to spy the certificate, and only then did he modestly admit to it.) Jesus was incredibly friendly. He introduced my mother and I to some great local varietals. They have literally hundreds of wines to choose from. The food and wine bar is family - owned, and the food locally sourced. As we were sitting there, Jesus' aunt brought in tomatoes from her garden. They made it on to a plate in front of us 10 minutes later. The tapas were amazing, and Jesus and the chef were more than happy to work around my mother's limited diet. (No olives, no eggs and no anchovies - In Spain?!) When we finally left hours later, I was telling Jesus about the great Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews. You must visit this small bar/pub when in Granada! We got there just after dinner service had started around 840pm and we were lucky enough to find seats. Got packed very quickly so if you're hoping for seats I'd suggest coming as soon as they open to avoid the rush as the customers after us had to stand whilst eating their food. Good mixture of locals and tourists. tapas was AMAZING best we've had, ingredients were simple yet tasty (must try selection of dried Iberian sausages). Best bar in Granada. Very warm and cozy environment, great wine selection (La Motocicleta was our favorite), amazing tapas, both the freebies and the plate of "sortido de tapas" we actually paid for after the 4th or so glass of wine, and a very friendly and helpful staff. During our 4 days there, La Tana was not only the best place to drink and eat, but it also had the best price/quality ratio we could find. On a tuesday night the bar was completely full just 5 minutes after opening the doors. But for a sitdown meal or a larger group I would recommend their more restauranty La Botilleria right around the corner. read more

My husband and I decided to visit La Tana based on all of the top-notch Yelp reviews and boy are we glad that we did. The bar is owned by Jesus and his sister, but was originally their mother's. It's very quaint and romantic where locals and tourists go to enjoy good conversation, food and wine. Jesus is the lone guy behind the bar and he blew our minds. Our Spanish is far from great and Jesus spoke little English, but we still managed to have a fulfilling conversation. We were intrigued about the 400 different Spanish wines they have on the menu and Jesus proceeded to amaze us by telling us that they have thousands of bottles. My husband and I looked around, dumbfounded, because the place was about the size of a studio apartment in Brooklyn. Jesus stepped away from the bar and pointed out the storage areas that were cleverly built in around the space. He also took the time to explain to us where in Spain certain wines and tapa ingredients are from and even took out his phone to show us on Google maps. He also mentioned Anthony Bourdain and showed us a picture he took with Anthony on his phone. That's when we realized we had watched the Granada episode of "Parts Unknown" on CNN and La Tana was one of the bars featured! He also gave us dessert on the house and a little shot of a dessert sherry called "Nectar" that basically tasted like liquid raisins. Overall, we had a an absolutely fabulous night eating tapas and drinking wine at La Tana. We long for the opportunity to revisit the gorgeous city of Granada so we can go to La Tana again, as well as the other wonderful places this city has to offer. Great place! Hard to find but well worth the effort. Went soon after they reopened at 8:30pm and found a place at the bar. Soon after, the crowds came in. The bartender was a great one man show. The most wonderful restaurant I visited in all of Spain. The ambience, food, wine, and company was amazing. We met Lucy (the owner) who was working behind the bar and she was very lovely and welcoming. Hands down I would recommend this restaurant to any one visiting Granda. Anthony Bourdain came to this restaurant on his show World Unknown. It very small in here. Basically no seating and you will be stuck standing no matter what. Lots of local people come here and tourists come her too. Drinks are cheap here and you get a tapa with every round of drinks you order. We ordered a small beer and got bread with tomato drizzled in olive oil and olives. We also ordered another tapa called the salmerjo. It is a tomato and olive oil blend. We got it because we saw other ppl eating it. It was very good and they gave us an artichoke with sun-dried tomatoes tapa with it. All of this cost us only 9.5 euros. Great value. read more

We decided to come here after seeing the great reviews on yelp! When we got there, which was about 10:30pm on a Thursday,there wasn't any room anywhere to sit or stand. Since we were hungry we went to another place near by and decided we would come there a little later after having drinks somewhere else. It obvious that the locals love this place! When we came an hour later is was much better and we got a summer red wine (fruity) like the owner suggested since it was summer when we were there! The wine was great and we got to have a tapa with our wine! If you're are looking for a bar not really sit down place then go here! It's small but would recommended for a drink and a tapa. read more

Great place for lunch in Granada! My friend and I went in for some beer/wine (they offer you a tapa with an order), and got a half order of the chef's suggestions (for 2 of us). One of the dishes was foie gras with this jelly - so good, and very reasonably priced. Anthony Bourdain recommended this place, no surprise. Lots of locals come here, so try to get in early before the rush (or late). Definitely nice to get away from the more touristy food joints - highly recommend! read more

I ate lunch at La Tana based on Yelp recommendations. The place was small and cosy, but very clean. Every drink (3€) comes with a different tapa. Wanted to drink more so I could see what would be next! Also had a serving of smoked sturgeon and tomatoes. Incredible!
