Told the gentlemen I was meeting a party, he said go straight to the back. It would I have been a nice touch to be escorted there. We were 13 and decided to do appetizers family style. We shared the Mozzarella en Carozza, Eggplant Rollatini, and Fried Calamari. They were good. I personally liked the eggplant the best. We all ordered our own dinner. La Strada is a staple for basic, no frills Italian at a good price. I've been here many times and its always consistently good. The last time I was here, we ordered a mixed hot appetizer platter for the table. The items were all a bit mushy (eggplant, fried calamari, baked clams, etc). We loved the idea of being able to try a bunch of different things, but the execution was poor with all of the sauces, juices, etc mixing together and causing each of the items to be a bit mushed. For my main course, I had the Pork Chop La Strada with sweet peppers and it was quite good. Overall basic Italian. Good service. Community staple. read more

Disappointing Experience at La Strada (Visited 11/9) I went to La Strada on 11/9 and asked for a Riesling. When I took a sip, it was sour, so I informed the waiter and decided to switch to a screwdriver with a splash of cranberry. Unfortunately, that drink was also disappointing -- it tasted like it was made with cheap, off-brand orange juice. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he insisted they use Tropicana and even brought out the bottle to show me. I drink Tropicana almost every day (with and without pulp), and I can say with confidence that my drink was not made with it. I understand that restaurants may look for ways to save costs, but when you're charging NYC-level prices and using low-quality ingredients, it's unacceptable. The food was just okay -- a huge plate of bland pasta with little flavor. Overall, very disappointed. I won't be returning to this place. read more

Having dined at many many restaurants over the years, dispite a few people raving about the food, I just never had La Strada in my rotation. Now I don't feel badly. Dinner was highlighted by a truly stellar baked clam appetizer. Flavorful and balanced, the dish was truly top notch and hopes were high. Sadly, they turned out to be the far and away highlight. I'm a firm believer and it's been proven time and again, in classic Italian places like this, there are a few dishes which foretell the quality of the food. Included in those are a basic pasta dish (in this case fusilli) and lasagna. The fusilli was requested al dente and showed up literally crunch (raw). The dish was nearly inedible. And the Lasagna was so devoid of any flavor, I had to check to see if there was any substance to the ricotta and lasangna noodles at all. The entire dish was made so much worse by the requested extra tomato sauce/gravy showing up and reconfirming the absolutely flavorless dish. And while I expect to pay for a quality meal and haven't any issue with "you pay for what you get", the before tip price of about $220 for four people (2 apps/ 3 drinks/ 2 lasagna/ one pasta/ one app shrimp dish/ 2 coffees and a tiramisu (decent and not great) seems to leave "you pay for what you didn't get" top of mind. Service was excellent from the bus boy and the waiter seemed to be inconvenienced by our presence in the nearly empty early dinner time slot. Further, as we attempted to hurry to a commitment and asked for the check 3x, it took getting up and finding the waiter to finally, after additional delay, pay the bill. In the end, the baked clams are worth the trip and they saved it from being a total loss. And that's about it. read more

I just had my mother's repast at La Strada , 30 people. The wait staff was excellent . The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Jimmy and Salvatore were very helpful and made sure everything went as planned .We had the smaller room with the bar for four hours. There was plenty of room for everyone to move around and mingle. Updated to add that I think I've figured out how they stay in business, because at least a portion of their clientele is from the funeral home across the street. After a death in the family, I learned that the funeral director has a business relationship & arranges after services luncheon at La Strada. Its location is ideal & while the service was good, the food on the price fix menu for such an event was bare bones minimum & mediocre at best. Not expecting anything gourmet after a funeral, but the small portions & lackluster entrees make it obvious that their only concern is their bottom line, not returning customers. Me and my boyfriend came here for a date night and wow did it exceed our expectations. I ordered the Linguini Marechiara with a shrimp soup and my boyfriend got the Chicken Rollatini. That soup was beyond amazing, my boyfriend doesn't like soup and he even enjoyed it so much. The portions were full and super filling. The waiters were kind, patient and welcoming. My two nearly 80 year old parents went to dine at the restaurant together 8/12/22. They walked in and were seated at a table in a less than favorable area. They asked if they could be moved. They asked the host if they could be moved to the dining area as opposed to being at the bar. The reaction to the request was the issue.. the host proceeded ask what was wrong with the table as given.. they said they just weren't comfortable and hadn't received menus or water at their table..he then said how ridiculous it was and they decided at that point it was not worth staying. Where the issue arises.. he proceeded to curse at both my mother and father. "F'ing ridiculous, leaving over an f'ing table" Again, having dined here in the past and not ever having had a bad experience, needless to say we will not be dining here again. read more

We go to this restaurant every NYE. Romany the manager welcomed us when we entered and gave us the best table in the place. He remembers everything about each customer and makes you feel welcomed and at home. The ambiance is the same and very warm. I had the surf and turf and baked clams and they were delicious. LaStrada has always been a solid, go to, Italian restaurant on Staten Island. Service was on point in the beginning of the visit but was totally lacking by the end. Waiter was more involved with a large table, and we were totally ignored after our entree came. 15 minutes after finishing meal, had to ask for check. Dessert was now out of question after being ignored for so long. Food was good, and dishes hitting other tables looked plentiful and filling. My veal francese, while not expecting a ton of veal, was mostly fluff. Egg battered soaked bread in between a few pieces of veal. A mess of potato cubes and vegetables. The veal itself was tasty. My first time at the place. Started off with the eggplant rollatini. That was good, maybe seemed like it had too much cheese in it. IDK. Standard salad came with the entree. I had the chicken scarpariello. That was excellent and the portion was huge. My daughter had the penne vodka with fried chicken cutlet on top. Another huge portion. Neither of us were able to finish our meals and took home the leftovers. Despite being stuffed we had dessert anyway. I had pistachio tartufo and my daughter had the apple crisp. With one drink the bill came out to a reasonable $117 before tip. The service was top notch and would not hesitate going back again. Would have given another star. I thought the bread basket could have been a bit better. I have been spoiled by another restaurant's bread basket. Anything less than that just doesn't compare. On March 18, 2023 I had my 75th Birthday Celebration at La Strada. James handled all the details and all ran smoothly. I have to praise how they handled three parties at the same time with the same staff and no one lacked attention. The food was great as usual and plentiful. A week later, I am still receiving compliments on how everything ran so smooth and what a good time each guest had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a stress free event. My takeout experience at La Strada has been Fantastic. Food is prepared quickly-25 minutes. The chicken Marsala is the best I have ever tasted, Salad and potato and vegetable or pasta is included. You figure after a long night the staff would have been spent by an 8:30 reservation. We did not feel one bit neglected. The staff was attentive and very friendly.
