Peter the owner takes pride in his business. You see him meet guests with a hug and pays attention to every detail. I had a team celebration and opted for a set menu. Came by for an early dinner/late lunch. It was about 3pm on a Thursday. The place is a new addition to the area we were told. I grew up in this town as a lad. Ambiance is cozy Italian restaurant, cloth napkins, nice window views out of one side of the place. A modest bar with about six seats to your right as you enter. Parking was easy as the Chase Bank lot across the street was not overly crowded. I got one of the specials a whole Sea Bream. A beautiful presentation and perfectly prepared. A side of cooked spinach complements the fish well. A glass of house Chianti was also ordered. My wife got the bolognese pasta she loved it. Service was extremely pleasant and attentive. We came in at 7 and the place was busy. A party was leaving. There were three tables open. We asked for a table in the corner but they said we couldn't sit there since it was for a party of 6 and we were only 3. They sat us at a table right Infront of the door. We had a nice Spanish man get us water and tell us the specials of the day. While we are deciding what to eat an older white man with glasses comes over and starts moving stuff on the table for no reason. Thought it was odd. 10 minutes later the white man comes back to take our order. My friend and sister order. He's half paying attention because he's watching everything else going on in the restaurant. I ask him to request the pasta special for me. He only mentions the tomatoes and zucchini so I say I want it. He goes to walk away while I'm mid telling him that I need gluten free pasta. My friends meatballs come out in a saute pan. My friend hates the presentation I think it's cute so an app. The meatballs are good and the sauce is fantastic. Then our entrees all come in pans. Super tacky and ugly. I couldn't believe we had a table full of cooking equipment. So I get my pasta and my sister goes is that cheese on top? He never told you that. Luckily I don't have a problem with the cheese but he half ass told me what the meal was. Throughout the whole experience our water glasses were always full. Nobody came to check on us or ask if we wanted anything else. Mr white manager kept breathing down our necks literally because my sister complained about it. He hovered over us way too much. You would think the customer service would've been better since he was always around but nope. My pasta special was enjoyable. My sister liked her whole wheat pasta with veggies. On arrival there was a large party of ten-twelve opposite our table for four, and within thirty minutes five more tables were filled, plus a couple at the bar. Not one patron had his iPhone out. If that wasn't astonishing enough, everybody was talking. This included the family of four beside us, with two male kids, one highly verbal toddler and his older brother. This is the kind of place it is. If you're not conversing with others, you're probably talking to your waiter. But somebody is always talking. The stone walls, which are not insolated with anything to buffer the sound, when Brioso is at capacity makes conversation something of a competition, but by then you're probably deep in your dinner. The wait staff is attentive but few speak English fluently, if at all, so expect a lot of silent attentiveness; the waiters appear to be native Italians and their accents are thick and real, so pazienza. The food is generally the best I've had at any Italian restaurant in central New Jersey; we've never had a bad meal there, though to be fair we're there about twice a year, spend a lot and tip a lot. One complaint this trip: the tripe, usually excellent, was too heavily spiced with black pepper and, alas, nearly inedible. Otherwise five stars. read more

We decided to come to Brioso on a whim. We called prior to showing up but, they wouldn't take our name. When we arrived It was super packed. The wait was about an hour for a Saturday night. We thought we should stay and try it out. In hind sight, what a Mistake!! When walking in, the bar is to the right with some bar stools and to the left is the dining room. It has a rustic Italian ambience and a wood oven all the way to the back. It was super loud and hard to carry on a conversation. We were able to get a seat at the bar while waiting. We weren't offered a menu for drinks so, we asked about varying wines they have and it seemed the bartender was clueless. The wines we did get were horrible. I ordered a Riesling. I asked for something semi sweet. The one I received was super sweet more like a dessert wine. It was stale and old. Also, we asked for a Merlot again it was Hot, old and funky tasting. Really disappointing for the start of the night. After waiting a while, the people after us started complaining of the waiting and the host I thought forgot about us. I glanced in his way (an older gentleman) and he got an attitude "yea yea I didn't forget" lol. Finally we were seat. We looked at the menu and asked about specials and heard about a filet mignon with two shrimp and veg. Perfect, will have that with a sampler as an app. We waited a while and by this time, we were super hungry and did not receive bread. We asked the wait staff. It's really sad that when it came, it was ice cold like right out of the fridge! Not really appetizing at all! The sampler finally came. Clams, mozz en corroza, stuffed mushrooms and zucchini. Everything was decent nothing really stood out. Nothing tasted super fresh or made ala minute. The flavor was one note and nothing had salt! We were really interested in the steak entree because we saw another patron with this dish. It looked really good. When we received it, the first thing we notice a shrimp was missing!! Umm, where's my second shrimp? Did the waiter eat it on the way to the table? Err.. So, now I have to ask about the missing shrimp.. no dessert!! Luckily two people sat next to us and asked about specials and we listened. The waiter def said two shrimp. So, we quickly called him over and asked. He lied to our faces and said he only said one!! Unbelievable! Well we started eating, although the steak was cooked perfectly, it lacked seasoning and flavor. Same with everything else on the dish. What a disappointment! First to hear something, then to be lied to! I will never come here again not only is the food not well prepared and seasoned, they SCAM their customers to their face! My bestie Jackie and I have had numerous nights and days out here with family and or friends . The owner is gracious and always gives us a big hello . The waiters are patient and kind and helpful .The bartender makes the best and freshest drinks ! Outstanding ! The food is always fresh , good portions . Yesterday we went there by 430 or so and stayed until closing ! Appetizers great , dinner excellent and a birthday cake with candle and espresso , for me ! Then ordered extra for our kids in separate homes, their requests !!! Place is immaculate and food and service excellent . I decided to go out to eat solo while my husband was busy with other matters. I and my legal service dog were welcomed and the service was attentive and unrushed. I asked to taste a little bit of Pinot noir and Cabernet so that I could choose between the two. I enjoy that kind of service very much!! I started with a Gorgonzola salad (more cheese please!) With arugula, apples, candied nuts, and craisins. The dressing was a light vinaigrette and excellent! Main course was the salmon- a bit small for the money and 5 thin grilled slices of zucchini as the garnish. The fish was excellent. I haven't been here in a minute now, and I'm wondering why. Why did I forget how yummy every dish is here. Had a reservation for Easter Sunday. I figured it would be a fixed menu or that they'd at least not have their usual 25 specials, but they did. I split an order of crab cakes and a stuffed pepper with my hubby. This is one of my favorite restaurants on Staten Island. Took my parents there for my Dad's Birthday this past Thursday night. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was once again excellent. I had the Short Ribs which was delicious. Even the appetizers were excellent. I had Mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto baked with a marinara sauce... If you're looking for amazing pasta, go to Brioso! Brioso's pasta dishes are incredible and they have a wide variety as well. If you're a fan of truffle oil I highly recommend trying the Garganelli alla Norcia. I took away a star due to the fact they are not clear on their website or over the phone when they begin serving their dinner menu - as a result, I placed an order, was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, and when I arrived to pick it up I was told it couldn't be fulfilled for another half hour. read more

I went to the new dorp restaurant crawl yesterday. It was annoying and me, my disabled father and my girlfriend were leaving because the lines were out of hand. She needed to use the bathroom we stopped there. I didn't taste the crawl food cuz it was out of hand but you were pumping it out. My girlfriend when she went in to use the bathroom called me and said it's a nice place and we wanted to eat so she suggested here. I asked about pricing since I paid for the horrible crawl and my father asked to take us out. She said it was reasonable , nothing over $28. We sit down. We're flipping the menu and my girlfriend says that's not the menu she saw. We just order pizzas because it was on my father. At some point my girlfriend asks if there's 2 menus. Sure as shit there is. My girlfriend was in the doors and my father and I was outside. She saw the menu and we come in and the hustle starts. You didn't hurt me. The food never disappoints but sometimes the service does. I try to remind myself that I used to be a server in the food industry and sometimes it can get busy. My husband and I once went and stood at the table for 20 minutes before we even got a menu. They must have known I was frustrated because they gave us a small dessert beverage for free. I've been here many times and that has only happened once so don't expect it often. Once you get your food just get ready to smile. From the appetizers to the pasta, everything is great. For the second time since outdoor dining, Brioso has refused to take outgoing orders citing they are too busy even though it's raining. I wouldn't say the best but some of the items on the menu are very tasty... The place itself is beautiful; the walls have that fake rustic in an Italian country house look. The brick oven fire is soothing. The music of Eros Ramazzotti and Laura Pausini frequent ly plays, although last time I visited I was quite sad to hear no music at all... I forgave when the complimentary focaccia bread came out to hold you and the party over... And boy does that work... yumm! There is one thing you must try when coming to this place, the Polenta with Salisicco (polenta with sausage and sauce). You will not find polenta like this anywhere in New York. Share it with a few people as an appetizer for a perfect start to the meal. I basically always order the Pollo Cardinale as well... if chicken, mozzarella, light sauce, and mashed potatoes are your thing... go for it :) read more

Brioso for the most part hits a home run with the occasional double. I was there recently and it was probably my third or fourth time there. Located in central staten Island or Staten Italy as some would call it, Brioso is a good all around Italian restaurant. The service is always great and the decor is themed after an old italian wine cellar thats makes you feel at home, in part because of the warm colors and the noise you hear, which is very similar to what you hear when having sunday dinner with a big Italian family. The food is great and brings you back to your sicilian roots. From the soft polenta with sausage ragu (creamy, sweet and a little spicy), to the Burrata cheese drizzled with fruity olive oil and served over a bed of greens and roasted peppers. Delicious! The Gnocchi Gratinati (OMG), light to the bite, literally melt in your mouth good, with a light sweet tomato sauce thats punctuated with a hit of fresh basil with every mouthful. A champion of dishes. Then there was the roasted Bronzini (a Mediterranean sea bass) and the Braised short ribs served over polenta. The Bronzini was light, sweet and flaky, and the pull apart Short Ribs braised in a red wine sauce were meltingly tender, complimented by soft polenta that balanced each bite. Seriously you must go there. Worth a trip to Staten Island. To top the night, we enjoyed some port wine poached pears. Exactly how the night should have ended.
