Had higher expectations for this place. First off to make a reservation was a pain, I would have to do it online- fine but to modify I had to call and I called multiple times and never got an answer. Left voicemails but not text confirmation or a call back or anything to let me know it had been changed. Ended up with like 3 reservations. It took like 20 minutes to be greeted, as we didn't know who the server was and turns out she was right next is the whole time. The garlic bread that we got was cold and hard- could tell it wasn't the best quality of bread. The food was okay it was bad but it wasn't the best taste. I'm having a blast checking out new eateries in the Reno area and this place was no exception. It's located inside the El Dorado casino. I had never been here before and it was hopping on a Friday night. We were seated immediately because we had reservations. I always think getting them is just a good idea overall. The Italian flavor was so evident in every corner and the holiday decorations were beautiful. I was so hungry that when I saw the waiter I ordered bruschetta immediately. Then came the bread basket that had toasted garlic bread pieces, soft bread sticks and rolls. Oh well I'm gonna fill up in the bread like I always do... ( I always ask the server what he/she likes the best) working in restaurants my whole life made me know they are the experts... There's not enough I can say about La Strada. The atmosphere is stunning, the service is top-notch, the food is impressive, and it's a high-class dining experience for a reasonable price. They have many options for pasta, salads, soups, and appetizers if you're not too hungry, but they also have options for 5-course meals and great steaks, authentic polenta, and delicious desserts. I do believe the menu is limited because of Covid, though. We started with an appetizer of Bruschetta, and it did not disappoint. My husband ordered the Signature Mushroom Ravioli, and he enjoyed them. My daughter (9) ordered Chicken Fettucini Alfredo (Butter - Cream - Grana Padano Cheese) but insisted on eating her dad's mushroom ravioli. They ended up ordering another plate and didn't touch the chicken alfredo. I thought both were very tasty. I ordered the Chef's surprise, a five-course meal, and it was delicious. My five-course surprise started with an artichoke salad, then serves three different types of pasta (Mushroom Ravioli, Shrimp Risotto, Uncle Willie's Meat Ravioli), followed up with a Filet Mignon served over a broccolini, with corn nut mash, alongside Veal Piccata ( Lemon - Caper - Chardonnay - Butter Sauce) and spinach. This restaurant was so lovely. Came into town to celebrate a big birthday of one of my friends. We ate here twice it was that good. Our server Jack -both times was nothing short of awesome. First night it was just the five of us gals, the second time was for the birthday dinner - 13 of us. He was kind, patient, super friendly and a fantastic server. The big birthday night we started with the mushroom ravioli. Holy mackerel was that great. We all had different dishes, sampled off each other. The lamb was prepared perfectly, the pasta bolognese was delicious, seafood linguini, the steak, all of it was so so so so good. The desserts were on point. We asked for 2 appetizers: The Shirimp wrapped in Bacon And the Calamari There's nothing special about this food. The they had the lamb for that night and I was really expecting it, the about 20 minutes later the waiter came back to our table to say I'm so sorry but the lamb is gone. So I ended up ordering filet mignon with esparragus, that was ok. A highlight of the night was when the waiter sang Happy Birthday in Italian. The bill was over $200.00 for 3 people and to be honest I will not recommend this place at all. We tried the much ballyhooed mushroom ravioli (4 piece appetizer) - it was lukewarm at best unfortunately and was not consistent as one of wife's had no flavor (the other 3 were tasty but not warm). The bread was tasty but not warm. We split a Caesar salad and the lettuce was flat so obviously not fresh. My wife ordered linguine with clams and the server recommended adding tomatoes to the white sauce. My wife clearly asked if it would just be some small tomato pieces (which she loves) and not a red sauce - the server said yes just small piece. Well, it came out as a red sauce which was not enjoyed (despite a lot of clams in dish). I ordered veal chop which was cooked properly and was delicious. When you arrive at the restraunt the setting is very upscale and the waiters are friendly. For the most part, the food seemed very good. We were served garlic bread which was top notch. However, I ordered the fettuccini Alfredo and was overwhelmed by the sharpness of the cheese. The rest of my family ordered other types of pasta as well and are not a big fan of the strong cheese as well. If you are a big cheese fan, I would recommend it but it was not for me. When people tell you to get the mushroom raviolis here, they're not wrong, they are delicious! I did the "Trust Us" menu and I did not regret it! I had a pretty simple salad followed by three types of pasta, two different entres, and dessert. The mushroom ravioli was hands down my favorite but it was nice to get to try so many things including a fish plate, a lamb chop, two types of raviolis and a salad I wouldn't have otherwise ordered. My only regret is they chose the panna cotta for dessert and I'm a die-hard cannoli fan. I would recommend making reservations here as they were turning people away. We popped over to see if they could possibly seat us at the bar, but the hostess was able to get us a table by the kitchen. First I booked the table on OpenTable at 5pm for an 8pm reservation. The hostess didn't see the reservation anywhere. They were suddenly booked all night. Walked to the bar, and literally 1 minute later "your table is ready"..I'm sorry did something change in the last 45 seconds that I walked from the door to the bar? I always make it a point to dress appropriately, especially when it is "Italian Elegance"...I chose to ignore the slippers, tank tops, flip flops, gym shorts, etc..I digress... We were seated at an nice table for two..to which I was immediately greeted with screaming children, I glance over and there are literally there 5-8 yr olds wrestling, screaming, and running around unchecked..maybe the parents will hem them in, so some of the "Italian Elegance" will come, nope. I mention to my server, is there a way we can enjoy our meal without the screaming and children running around and play fighting? Let me get the manager...she comes over..I mention the same thing, I quote " I don't see anything other than a family enjoying their meal", followed by a nice blond haired youngster screaming and running around...Her attitude was rude, curt, and with zero concern over my comfort and dining experience - it has become common place I have noticed in Reno to dismiss customer concerns, assuming they are one time diners, or tourists...big mistake in my opinion. We were offered the opportunity to move, which we accepted..no apologies, nothing..here let me help you Manager, " Sir, I'm sorry, I can understand why that might disturb you meal, lets find you a table that will offer you a elegant dining experience, we want you to enjoy your selves and visit us in the future". Nope..just a sneer, and a here is a table closer to the front. Don't like your job or if you suck at it..quit. On to the food..the Calimari was nothing more than a bowl of crumbles, breading and tiny rings..not worth $18.95, save your money..and it was luke warm at best. The Panzanella salad..basically cucumbers, tomatoes, and pickled red onions with a vinagerette dressing, was good..The main course, the cannelloni, was mediocre, the pasta was hard on the top, overzealous a on the cheese, etc..not impressed..the Cavatelli and Prawn..very good..the bread that was served...not warm, no butter, no olive oil...honestly for $108, the Olive Garden is a better bet, hands down. Service..fake..had to let the young man know his name tag was upside down..lets you know that his fellow employee's are jerks...had to ask for water refills, had to ask twice for a box to go, and when I asked for a small bag, everyone disappeared. I went to the restroom while waiting on the bag..lo and behold, there is the young man who said he would bring me my bag..in the restroom, leaning on the sink on his cell phone...awesome guys! Needless to say..will not dine here again, and will advise everyone else to go elsewhere..there are too many places in Reno that do a better job.
