***Note: This review pertains to a "dinner" experience.*** I should start off by saying that if you go in expecting a "usual" restaurant experience, this restaurant might seem odd and/or slow; but if you have the patience and a desire for a good meal in a classy setting, you'll be pleased. The restaurant itself is not exactly as busy as other restaurants, therefore Robert, the owner, provides your dining party (or just you if that's how you roll) all of the services (from answering phones for reservations, to seating you, prepping & cooking the meal, etc). Wednesday/Friday/Saturday dinner requires a reservation; when you call to reserve you'll likely be asked what you will be ordering...mostly because the restaurant isn't as busy as other places and Robert prepares each meal fresh from scratch once the reservation is made. A "full" fondue dining experience requires about a day's notice/reservation ahead. The Saturday night dinner we experienced was a 3-course meal (with dessert optional). The first part was a fresh salad w/delicious house dressing that is strongly recommended. The second course was a bowl of Boston Clam Chowder & another bowl of Chipotle Black Bean soup accompanied w/sides of bread; all of which was exquisite! Then came the main course; I ordered the Pan Seared Scallops and my wife had the Pan Seared Pork Loin. The dishes come with a side of steamed vegetables and potatoes. Both dishes were delicious but my biggest critique is that I wish they came in bigger servings (4 scallops for me, 4 pieces of pork for the wife). Each 3-course meal (not counting dessert) was roughly $32.50. We opted for dessert and selected the Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake & Vanilla Bean Cheesecake with coffee to drink. Everything was delicious. As previously stated, this restaurant is a very classy & relaxing dining experience. Did we find the owner/waiter/cook (Robert) "obnoxious/annoying" as other reviewer(s) did? No, not really. After each course he would simply ask how everything was, which of the soups we preferred, etc, as he took the empty plates away. He genuinely seemed interested in knowing what we thought of each dish for his own improvement/edification. He didn't "push" us to dessert...he simply gave us his recommended picks & asked us if we still had room left for it. All in all, the lunch experience (which we've yet to have) is likely a more casual dining experience...with the dinner experience being something more attune for a fancy date or business meeting, etc...but still deliciously recommended! Give it a go!

Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. It's the kind of business you can feel good about supporting and I'll be back!

My friend has celiac disease, so it's important to me to ensure my gifts to her meet her dietary restrictions. I checked online and discovered that almost all of Andre's chocolates are gluten-free and--better yet--they were open on Christmas Eve until 4 pm. So I dashed over after work, arriving at 3:40, and the folks behind the counter were all so kind and so helpful. I explained what I needed and they showed me the ready-made boxes of chocolates available--but then offered to put one together for me right then, to make sure that we chose exactly what she wanted and that every chocolate was gluten-free. They guided me through the choices, telling me the flavors that were in some of the selections, and giving their recommendations based on my friend's tastes. How nice of them!! I walked out close to the stroke of 4 pm, with the perfect box of chocolates in a lovely gift box. Hurray!! I really appreciate the staff's kindness, and going the extra distance for my friend, at the very end of their work day before the holiday started. Thank you SO much to everyone at Andre's, and Merry Christmas!

We went for later lunch and this place was crowded with diners, always a good sign. The lunch restaurant week menu really intrigued me because it was one of the 3 course options for $20. First course- luscious butternut squash soup One of my all time favorite soups and this one didn't disappoint, I love the autumnal flavors of this soup. The nuttiness shined through the silky smooth soup filled with the richness of cream. It was seasoned wonderfully balancing the inherent sweetness with the right amount of salt and herbs. I would drink this soup up by the gallon. Second course- Classic Chicken Picatta I loved how light this dish was, instead of being breaded it was tender moist chicken, yes it may look a little anemic but it wasn't lacking flavor. The bright lemon caper sauce brought like to the chicken. The abundance of capers made me so happy, they provided a tangy briny profile. The smooth as butter mashed potatoes just soaked up that succulent sauce and every bite had such a luscious mouth feel. This was an elevated comfort dish. Dessert- crème brûlée Now I'm not a dessert girl so I'm not a crème brûlée connoisseur but, it had a nice crackly sugar shell with a decadent eggy custard. The ripe berries were simple but added freshness to richness of the custard.

Odd. We appreciated the heads up however, I feel like they were really wanting us to turn around and leave as the restaurant seemed overwhelmed. We stayed as it was too late in day to go elsewhere. The kitchen was indeed backed up, no silverware provided had to ask, and our server said to order right away if we wanted to get our food. They were out of some items. Took 45 minutes for food to arrive. However, the staff was apologetic, even though it took awhile to be served the meal itself was acceptable --the pork chop, surf and turf, braised meat, and pizza were all hits. Server had to confirm with kitchen if they were still serving dessert, we were able to order. The desserts consisted of banana coconut pie which basically pudding & bananas in a bowl, tiramisu, and Keylime, all were just okay not worth $. The patio is beautiful and perfect for a nice day. It is very expensive, so we'll save it for special personal occasions not a national holiday/special day, but the food quality makes it worth a return visit.

The service continues to be inconsistent at best--no patio service, long waits, and a general lack of attentiveness--but what's most frustrating is the latest beverage and menu decision. You can no longer order a single glass of wine. Instead, guests are now forced into purchasing a half bottle as the minimum entry point--starting around $25--for a very limited and underwhelming selection (Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc... and that's about it). No Pinot Grigio, no variety, no flexibility. Just a forced upsell on mediocre wine in a casual, outdoor setting. Let's be clear: You can order a single beer. You can order a single cocktail. But you cannot order a single glass of wine. In 2026, that's not just outdated--it's completely out of touch. This approach eliminates choice, discourages responsible and casual consumption, and frankly alienates a large portion of your customer base. What if someone wants just one glass? What if they want to try two different wines? That experience is gone. And the reasoning doesn't hold up. If this is about waste or throughput, there are countless modern solutions--by-the-glass preservation systems, or even high-quality boxed options like Black Box Wines that maintain freshness without forcing customers into higher spend. This feels less like a thoughtful strategy and more like a blunt, revenue-driven decision that ignores the guest experience entirely. So here's the question for leadership: Who is making these menu and beverage decisions--and how does this align with the kind of experience you claim to offer? Because from a guest perspective, this isn't hospitality. It's restriction. I'd genuinely like to hear a response from the team on this. Until then, this is a complete veto for me.
