I've stayed here several times over the past few years with my stays being 50/50, but this last stay may just be my last. I booked through booking (dot com) & initially booked a standard king room with a balcony sea view. I received notification that I could upgrade my room for a fee of $14 to the king suite with a fireplace which sounded nice & a reasonable price so I upgraded. Arrival day I check in & haul all my luggage up to my 3rd floor room only to get in the room & there's no fireplace & the room was SMALL with no balcony. I called down to the front desk who tells me I booked through a 3rd party & did not book a fireplace room (I have screenshot proof) but for an additional $20 a night they can get me in the room with the fireplace (which I wanted for ambiance not heating). I have to tote all my luggage back downstairs to get new room keys, no help was offered. Finally get up to my room, the room is large & nice. Start unpacking & it's HOT so I go to turn on the AC & it doesn't work!!! NO POWER. I called down down to the front desk again who says they'll send up maintenance. 40 minutes later maintenance arrives & the AC he says he needs to take out. He offers to bring 2 fans but it will be a little bit because he has to go to another hotel to get them. About an hour later we go to leave the room to find ONE box fan sitting outside our room. That one fan did absolutely nothing to cool down the large room! We had to sleep on the rock hard bed with the patio door open for fresh air but the outside noise was now a nuisance. Woke up in so much pain from the hard mattresses looking forward to coffee & breakfast. Coffee was good but the rest was subpar at best. Orange juice was spoiled, the breakfast was very oily croissant sandwiches with either choice of grey sausage, dried out ham or herb cream cheese or there was oatmeal. A few not so good looking oranges & apples. No cereal or bagels, that was breakfast for the 2 days we stayed. The second day there was no ham croissants just the grey sausage or herb cream cheese. Front desk never checked in on us to see if we were comfortable with our box fan. On check out day, check out is at 11. We got a rude call from front desk at 11:10 as we're trying to get out of our room reminding us that checkout is at 11. Not offered any reimbursement for no AC but was definitely charged for that fireplace that barely flickered a tiny flame. read more

We stayed one night at the La Serena Inn while I was attending the Morro Bay Bird Festival. I saw reviews that this is more of a motel than hotel, but that's it's clean and quiet. It definitely was clean and quiet, and situated in a good location where walking to everything was very convenient. We did an early check in, which was at a cost of $30. The price of the room was reasonable, so we didn't mind too much having to spend more for an early check in, although that's a cost I wasn't used to seeing. A few things that could use improvement are... The beds are very soft, as in when you sit on it, it sinks waay down and is a bit noisy. The bath towels were also pretty thin, and the breakfast didn't have much in the way of healthy options. I was glad to see they had soy milk as an option for my cereal. Probably would not stay here again, as I'd opt to spend more and stay somewhere where it's a bit nicer, but it was fine for one night. read more

Great for a pet friendly hotel at a reasonable price. All pet friendly rooms are located on the second floor. There is a luggage cart and an elevator which makes it nice. Our room was clean, spacious and perfect and it had a small Juliette Balcony which had a view of Morro Rock, room #202. It was also very quiet, except for the usual sounds of folks walking by, but generally very quiet. Our room's AC worked well too. Adrian greeted us when we arrived and told us our room would be ready soon, so we walked up to The Siren, one block away for a drink. Adrian was so nice and remembered our names and greeted us everytime she was working the front desk! The breakfast is adequate. I had hot oatmeal one morning with coffee and an orange juice. There is fruit , hard boiled egges and pastries and a waffle maker, but we just wanted coffee and something quick so we didn't stay to make our own waffles. Our room had a tub/shower which was nice! The tub is a standard size. The hot water from the shower was nice a hot too. Located near the Embarcadero where shops and restaurants are located and a couple blocks from town where there are more shops and restaurants. I will definitely return to La Serena Inn! BED BUGS in Room 318!! I stayed here from September 19th to 22nd, I even paid extra for a room with a view. What I got instead was a horror show. During my three-day stay, I was bitten so badly by bed bugs that I woke up to significant amounts of blood on my pillowcase. The first night I tried to tell myself it was in my head. The second night I still held out hope. By the third night I woke up covered in bites, in pain, and terrified. I have a compromised immune system, and these bites made me physically ill. Some are swollen into painful welts that hurt even with ice. I'm itchy, miserable, and instead of a peaceful getaway, I was handed a health issue. . To make matters worse, when I called about a refund, I was told flatly, "We don't do that. Bye." and hung up on. No concern, no apology, no accountability. Now I am left washing and disinfecting everything I own, praying I did not carry these pests home with me. This was supposed to be a weekend of rest and recovery, not more trauma. Stay away from this hotel. Don't risk your health, your comfort, or your peace of mind. read more

Just a few minutes walk to all the beach, shops, and restaurants. Breakfast and parking was included with the stay so for me, so it was really worth your money! Little touches in the inn like the book corner and the sea shells in the room makes for a cozy and contributes to a laid-back atmosphere. Rooms are clean and TV comes with DirectTV. Traveling up from LA for a family event, we made our reservation last-minute on a June weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and comfort of the accomodations. We stayed in Room 209: my traveling companion and I had requested two queen beds and loved the spaciousness and cleanliness of the room. Amenities included in-room tea and coffee, cable TV, free Wi-Fi and one free parking spot in the lot (there seemed to be plenty of space available on the street as well.) Continental breakfast was included; the hostess of the breakfast room was friendly and helpful with questions about local sights. Being a chilly June night, we did turn on the heater; unfortunately, every time it turned on it made a loud rattling noise, waking us up on and off throughtout the night. Maybe ear plugs would be helpful? We certainly needed that coffee in the morning. Location is great; we were able to walk around downtown Morro Bay as well as out to the water. It wouldn't be too far to walk all the way to Morro Rock itself. We would stay at La Serena again if in the area. read more

The hotel room was such a great price , our room had a beautiful view , the room was clean , unfortunately our bathroom items weren't stocked up but that's not a big deal we were able to call the front desk and he answered right away , the distance from the shopping center is nice , the walk is doable ! Only 5 min drive to morro rock we stayed for 3 days. The older lady with a blue color tint was not it , she was super rude and mean. I do not recommend the breakfast food , everything is sitting out for what tase a long time , bread is stale , the milk tasted sour , told the lady and she got upset and slammed the container on the counter saying the milk isn't expired. Me and my kids left the breakfast area, after she rolled her eyes and told us to get a cup and she will give us milk from the gallon. We were back here for the 4th year in a row. We love the location of this inn as it is walking distance to town or the Embarcadero. We also appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms and the property - even the fresh flowers in the lobby waiting area as well as the breakfast room are a nice touch. Paul at the front desk was very friendly and greeted us each and every time we walked through the lobby. He was able to get me some decaf tea bags in the late afternoon as there was none in our room. This time we stayed in the pet room since we brought our dog. Our king bed was comfortable and our towels were of good quality. Pillows were too puffy for me tho, so I requested a new one and Paul had them bring one up. Thank you! Really liked that our mini frig also had a separate mini freezer! The toilet seat was a little wobbly, however, in room 201. The free breakfast that was provided was sufficient, with hot oatmeal & waffles along with dry cereal, fruit, muffins & toast. Enough to get us started. There are plenty of full service restaurants within walking distance if one prefers a full hot breakfast. It is truly appreciated that this hotel does offer a complimentary breakfast and one of the reasons we stay there. Sandi in the breakfast room does a great job keeping everything tidy and well stocked! It would be nice, however, to have a hand sanitizer machine in the breakfast room - if there was one I missed it. The staff here is very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again. La Serena Inn checked all of my boxes: clean, reasonably priced, and within walking distance of great restaurants. Our room had a view of Morro rock. I forgot a usb wall adaptor and the staff lent me one of theirs. The fact they went above and beyond to provide this made the stay more memorable. My husband surprised me with a reservation at this hotel, close to The Siren so we could see a show & not have to drive. Location: 5 Stars! The room was very large and had a good sized bath/vanity area with 2 sinks. The bed was comfortable and was dressed with 3pillows and a light layer of blankets. The room had a heater that although loud, warmed the room pretty quickly. We did not pay extra for a view. the window was dirty and obscured whatever view would have been. (Room 203) The breakfast was good; Waffles, hot cereal, cold cereal, fruit and plenty of beverages. Also it was Easter and colored boiled eggs were available. I thought that was a nice touch! And the dining room was festively decorated too. Lots of great views at this hotel, so even if you don't get a room with a view, waiting areas & the breakfast room have beautiful vistas. Grounds were clean & tidy. Staff were efficient and friendly. There is no one on the premises after 9 pm which was weird for me, but they lock the building & you can get in with your key. I've stayed here several times since they first opened and they always do a great job at keeping up their rooms/carpet etc. The staff is friendly and helpful. I'm grateful that they have some Pet Friendly rooms so that we can bring our older dog with us on trips. The Breakfast is easy and honestly not bad if you want to save on eating out. I know there are hotels that are fancier/more ammenities, but for Morro Bay this is one of the best. Clean, good communication, honest staff and not too noisy. read more

The coffee was good. The room was spacious and clean, and while the building was dated, it was well maintained and had an elevator. Most of the parking was covered. I have stayed here many times. As you can see I'm local. Locked out of my room post Siren show at 12:30. Had to call the night number as there's no one manning the front desk. Called for three hours. The magnetic strip on both keys failed. Tried to call Uber to take me home to Pismo beach. No luck there either. I had no other choice than to call the police. Once the police called the night number miraculously someone answered. And about 10 minutes later the dark-haired girl appeared. Spoke to the front desk in the morning and they played it off like no big deal. I don't normally leave bad reviews. But I would hate for someone to have to go through what I did. Nice place! Impromptu stay. We had been in Cayucos for a couple days and drove to Morro Bay before heading home. About mid-afternoon the hubby suggested we stay at the coast one more night. Yes! My Happy Place! I checked to see who had doggie friendly rooms with availability on Expedia, then I checked Yelp for reviews. Mixed reviews, but most seemed favorable. We decided to do a drive by of La Serena Inn to see what we thought for ourselves. The outside was nice, so I went in to inquire at the front desk. They had one doggie friendly room still open for that night. It was 2PM and the room was just finished and ready so we got to check in then. The room was very reasonably priced. They charge $25 for pets, just so you know, if that matters. The room was good sized with a king bed - memory foam. It was comfortable. There was a microwave and fridge (that was a bit noisy, but not enough to keep me awake). We were on the 2nd floor, there are 3 - and there is an indoor elevator. Check out is 11AM. Oh, close to the water and we had a view of the rock from our room. read more

At first I thought the room was really nice. First thing I noticed was the window sheers there was what appeared to be mold spots. Then when I started to take a bath there was no plug, so I had to push a wash rag in the hole to hold the water in. There were no handles to help get in & out of the tub,, no mat to put on the tub bottom to keep from slipping. Your employee that " SAT" at the front desk would "NOT" help me & my friend go thru the door, (which was so heavy to push & hold open), he just sat there & watched us struggling to get in. After years of lying dormant I've finally encountered another review worthy service - it's unfortunate that it's because the service was so inadequate. Friend and I booked a hotel via a travel website for two nights, "balcony only" room. Since I'm a working stiff, we couldn't arrive before 6pm but called ahead to ensure check-in. When we arrived the main lobby was locked, as expected, we called up but still had to wait ten minutes for someone to bring us our room cards. Ok, a little cold but no problem. We get to the room and lo and behold our beautiful view of Main Street through our non-balcony window. Well this is a little annoying, but let's just call and get situated. Oh, but they're closed downstairs so we try the room phone but after some patient troubleshooting it still has some trouble connecting. I call from my cell phone to the main line and leave a detailed voicemail. Finally we get a woman on the line (the label said night manager so we'll assume that's who she is) and we inform her that our room is incorrect. She then uses some language that implies we're not being honest about our reservation, stating "well, even if it doesn't say 'balcony' I'll still get you a balcony room first thing in the morning". Apparently, she (the night manager) doesn't work on site, the number is only for emergencies and she would take care of it first thing in the morning. Friend reminded her that she paid extra on the website for the balcony, because it's her birthday and she was treating herself to something nice, but ok - first thing in the morning, we'll wait for 8am for a resolution. 8:30am - no phone call, no follow up, nothing. Friend goes downstairs while I pack up the room. She comes back and guess what? No refund for the first night. Guess why? Because the room for second night is more expensive. But didn't we pay extra? Yes, we did, but the woman manager had never seen or heard of that website and would not honor the refund. But how is it the customers responsibility for where the hotel is advertised? It's not, but since the room for the second night is soooooo expensive the refund she isn't going to give us will cover the cost. What?! Exactly. Apart for the spectacularly disappointing service, the heater/AC unit is so alarming loud that I woke up every since time it kicked on during the evening. The room appeared clean but upon further inspection we found candy wrappers and other items from a previous guests. I didn't even get under the blankets. I have a car pillow and a car blanket and used those to sleep on the bedspread because I was uneasy about sleeping between the sheets. All in all, I wish I could've given them what I feel they truly deserve which is half a star read more

After staying in La Serena Inn, I'm dreaming of a home with walls covered in beautiful wall paper. How dreamy is this wallpaper?  We spend majority of our time outdoors when we travel and we are used to being out in the cold and even in the rain so it is important for us to have a comfortable place to stay at in the evenings. We really appreciate places that have a sense of style and warmth to them. We stayed in a romantic suite that had a fireplace and a balcony with the view of Morro Rock. We also had a joining room where our children slept. This inn is great for those with a small family or large family because the rooms are spacious. Breakfast is complimentary. read more

We've stayed at a lot of hotels and motels in Morro Bay, and although our overall La Serena rating is about a 3.4, we would definitely stay here, again. The location is just fantastic, it's clean, and there are plenty of towels. Points off for an initial customer service issue with an incredibly rude front desk agent ... didn't even make eye contact with us, and just told us to "come back at 3:00", plus several guests had keys that stopped working before they could check out. We had two keys, and one stopped working while the other worked, so we were lucky. Overall, we'd do it again. read more

Pleasantly surprised, we got a King bed room without the ocean view, so we were facing the police parking lot at window level... but... the staff and the rooms are good. We had cable TV, roomy room, and a walk from everything in Morro Bay. We would definitely stay here again and even recommend it to friends and family. They have a quaint to but nice breakfast (waffle machine included). We had a nice and relaxing stay here over the weekend. I booked a two-day stay for myself, my husband and four grandkids. It was a kind of last minute plan to go and I booked through Hotels.com. I was excited to come to this hotel again because we have stayed here before and were in a beautiful room with a balcony and a view. This time however, the room they gave us was like it didn't belong as part of the hotel. Room 210. It was like a motel 6. Wait, Motel 6 is better. The girl at the front desk wasn't very friendly. On arrival there was no one at the front desk, it was check in time and there was a line of people waiting to be checked in. In fact, every time we came in or went out there was no one at the front desk. The view we had was of the alley, where the dumpsters were. A closed up restaurant with beer cans and weeds. The window was dirty. There was some kind of liquid splashed up against the night stand that the housekeeper overlooked. But the worst part was the bed. It was an old, lumpy, worn out spring mattress. I woke up with a backache. Please replace the mattress. We paid money to stay here and deserve a good nights sleep. So disappointed. So the reply I got back from the Hotel implied that it was because we booked with a third party. I don't think the third party we booked with has control over the bad mattress and dirty windows. I was thinking I would be offered compensation for the unpleasant stay. I won't be back to this hotel. read more

I had two goals in mind: 1) a nice, clean place to stay and 2) a nice view of Morro Rock. Both goals were fully met at La Serena Inn! Room was spacious and had a balcony that we kept open during our stay. Hearing the gulls and seals from the bay was wonderful and soothing. Short walk to the Embarcadero where we had dinner and watched the sunset. Breakfast was offered but didn't partake... we had gone out the following morning to watch the sunrise off the beach which was literally a couple minute drive. Just a side note, the parking spaces are a little tight at the inn- I was driving a mini-van and it took some maneuvering to get into certain spots. I would certainly book here again as long as I was sure to receive a room with "the view". read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. Was under the impression I paid for the reservation when I made it. I saw the money come out of my account. But the hotel said they never took it. When I checked in, they said okay and would only charge us the incidental hold. We found ants in our room, like a lot of them. Next day, front desk called and said we've been trying to charge your card on file for the stay. Unless you give us a different card you will have to leave tomorrow at checkout. They charged my card multiple times and left me almost $600 in the negative in my bank account. All the money I had painstakingly saved up for my fiancé and my's anniversary trip was gone. We sorted things out with a different card. But they would also not do anything about the fact that we had ants in our room. No room change. No discount or anything comped. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again. You couldn't pay me to! Also there are very few actual pet friendly rooms here. And we stayed in an accessible room. It was on the 2nd floor, quite a ways away from the elevator. (What would we do in an emergency? Accessible rooms should be on the first floor.) The shower/tub was very small once you put the shower bench in. No room to really stand up and move if need be. And the sides of the tub were really high. I didn't find this room to be very "accessible" in my opinion. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights. We got a good deal $83/night for a king size bed with a "bay view". We stayed in room 217, and the view wasn't anything to write home about, but judging by the other reviews it could be much worse. Our room had really nice furniture (definitely not Motel 6) and I loved the bed and bed frame. Bad points: Our refrigerator was weird or faulty. On our first night, it took almost 12 hours to get our drinks cooler than room temp. The next day they were cool, but the ice in the freezer wasn't staying solid... the refrigerator was definitely working because it was running and keeping our drinks somewhat cool. Maybe it's on its last leg. We didn't contact staff because they have an ice maker in the hallway so we just used that. Another thing, the outside balcony light doesn't turn off. It was really irritating. Best part is the walking distance to Embarcadero, shops, and restaurants. read more

Positives friendly staff, 2 sinks in each bathroom, close to the main drag. Negatives Asked to upgrade, it was my girlfriend and I for one night on 2 twin beds. The only reason I mention this is I was lied to by the front desk manager. First there were no longer any rooms available, then when I waited and asked the next clerk he said there were 2 rooms available with single larger beds at an upgraded price. I had him call the other manager off duty just to ask about the upgrades price to let her know it was not cool. Would have loved to hear that the first time, but the stinger left me with a bad taste in my mouth and made me not want to deal with the issue at all. congrats. read more

I've always had a rule to not write bad reviews, only good ones if a business was exceptionally good. The La Serena Inn inspired me to break that rule. I'm not really picky with hotels, as long as there is more than ONE towel in the bathroom, and a bath mat, regular coffee for the coffee maker, someone at the front desk once in a while to get things we need, and coffee in the lobby (or breakfast room) before 7:30 am. Sooooo, I guess this inn is not the right place for me personally. Luckily there was a fantastic breakfast place down the street but the waitress seemed to hate hate her job so I was thinking of telling her she should get a job at the La Serena Inn because she wouldn't have to do ANYTHING there. The hotel itself was nice, within walking distance from just about everything, then again everything is close. The rooms aren't super updated, but that's to be expected, it's a quiet town. I would give it 4 stars except for the simple fact that they charged us for a late check out when we were literally walking out at the time of checkout. The staff was very meh, indifferent, and bordering on rude really, which sucks big time because I could have spent my money elsewhere. Can't beat the location! U can walk down the hill and be by the waters and food area :) the room we got was very spacious and the bathroom was clean! A+ coz im very particular about my hotels..id rather pay more and feel comfortable than paying a fraction and feel grossed out! Eck! Pros: spacious room and bathroom, cleanliness, staff are AWESOME, breakfast (make ur own waffles that actually tastes good!!) Location!! Cons: peptobismal colored wall, outdated decor, Parking!!!! Had to park on the side of the street coz of lack of parking..really have to claim ur spot early if u want a parking within the premises Overall, we would stay here again..it was a nice place to stay and rest for a very reasonable price! :) read more
