I was craving some homemade Italian dishes and this was a GREAT pick. Not only were we greeted upon arriving but sat immediately, served water and bread. Warm loaf of bread with packets of butter. They had some great specials on the menu but I had my heart set on zuppa di pesce in a red sauce. I didn't have to add anything and enjoyed the bread with my dish. Served super fast, hot and tasty. Of course we took a look at the dessert menu as it's homemade. Picked out the Nutella mascarpone pie and we didn't even get a picture! Devoured it in seconds. Super cozy place, great service on a busy night. We will be back! read more

Do you want authentic and flavorful Italian food- go to la scogliera in Shelton. We have been going for years and I have never had a bad meal. I had a 40th birthday dinner there and I was wowed from start to finish. The rest of our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The stuffed meatballs are huge but so light! The stuffed artichoke was also huge and garlicky delicious. Veal Pizzaiola was so thin and cooked to perfection. But... the Nutella marscapone cake ... trust me! Just get it! read more

Wow! We've lived in the area 22 years & our 1st time here! Fabulous food & service. The owners are Italian & from the get go I knew it would be good I had the Zuppa di pesce & it did not disappoint! Service was very prompt and attentive. Front of the house worked very well together. Kitchen was working food Magic. Had the White Pasta Fagioli which was exceptional. Will order this soup over and over. Enjoyed my Pollo a Scarpariello. Went for the extra add on of Cherry Pepper,Onion and Sausage. Ate every last bit of it. It was that good. Highly recommend this restaurant. Became very busy as our Dinner progressed. Obviously many People know of this gem. Will eat there again! read more

Left hungry! After reading many reviews for this restaurant, my husband and son were very disappointed to leave hungry. They consistently order Chicken Marsala at Italian restaurants and the portion size at La Scogliera appeared to be a child's portion. The meal itself was delicious, but the size of the meal for $28 certainly felt unbalanced. The staff was attentive, the atmosphere was fine. I ordered Zuppa Di Pesce, both the flavor and portion were fantastic. Overall, we enjoyed our visit, but don't feel we need to come back. read more

Can't tell you how magical our evening was at this Truly authentic Italian hideaway. We were greeted by the owner who provided a beautiful dining event that was love at every bite. It started with our appetizer. We asked for a $25 sample appetizer and received 2 platters, 1 cold with peppers artichoke provolone soppressata olives and then a hot platter with stuffed mushrooms calamari classic stuffed and casino stuffed shrimp and eggplant rolletini Exquisite!! It was so much fun. Our host had us wait a moment before ordering our main courses. Lobster with oil and garlic yum, veal marsala, and delmonico steak. We ate it ALL. Then we asked him to order our desert and it was so amazing we ate that as well. We left fully satisfied but not over stuffed. The food was fresh and amazing. Have lived in the area for years and just now came across this little Italian eatery. I can't believe we have never been here. We are always looking for the authentic family owned little restaurants as they always seem to be the best. This place is truly a hidden gem. A bit sticker-shocked at the prices compared to other Italian restaurants in the area but we figured it has to be good with large portions. Along with the main menu was a specials list. Not only were there written specials but our waitress rambled on another 5-6 more specials and each and every one of them sounded divine. The clams casino appetizer was fantastic. Clams were nice size, not overwhelmed with spices and extra's. Just simple wine broth, with slice of bacon. Nice size littlenecks so flavorful and fresh whereas other places, the clams usually shrink to a tiny piece you cant even taste. My fusilli dish with sausage and sundried tomatoes with pancetta in a vodka sauce was outstanding! There was plenty enough to take home for lunch the next day. Husband loved his veal parm and was a nice size piece. The fusilli is not on main menu and dinners do not come with a salad like we are used to. Pasta however was clearly made from scratch, something you don't get too often around here. We will come here again for special occasions and bring large groups. Nice round tables for 8 are available. Can't wait to come back. Amazing. read more

We went to this restaurant this past Saturday night and wow, it made my week! I'll start with the service. The waitress was super nice and gave us amazing recommendations. Ask for the Daniele Special! She was very outgoing and gave us the history behind the family-owned restaurant. She definitely added to overall experience. The ambiance was great too. A lot of the guests are very loyal to this restaurant, so you know you're at a great, local Italian spot. Everyone was friendly, talkative, and on a first-name basis. We struck up a convo with an awesome couple who has been coming to restaurant for 40 years! They were so sweet and had amazing stories/recommendations. They even bought our bottle of wine; that almost made us tear up! Finally, the food is delicious. The menu has a wide variety of options, but Daniele let us know that we can mix/match any combinations to our liking. We had the veal over gnocchi with vodka sauce (Daniele special) and eggplant cooked in two different ways (one smothered with cheese and one without) over pasta. Both these dishes were off-menu and we were very happy with the risk. For desert, we had the tiramisu and the pistachio cake. All the portions were huge so remember to bring an appetite. The entrees were both great; I can't choose a favorite. The deserts put us right into a food coma but it was so worth it. We had to pack leftovers because of how generous they are. The people were so nice, I feel bad writing this. At this price point, however, it needs to be said. The food was almost unbelievably bland- even the bread served before our appetizer was reminiscent of packing peanuts. The stuffed mushrooms were greasy and soggy, and the chicken special of the night was completely lacking in flavor. The risotto it was served over was also disappointing. Halfway through the meal, I thought I was coming down with Covid- after all, what else could explain the complete lack of taste? After generously salting, peppering, and praying- I got through it. I'll be saving my wallet and my tastebuds and steering clear. read more

Came with a party of 13. Service was on point. Attentive to addressing drinks and appetizers. Food came out fast and hot. The Delmonico steak and shrimp combo was fantastic; one of the best and most flavorful steaks I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Everyone at the table raved about the quality of their meals. Worst dinner experience I ever had! Wish I could give 0 stars. Had reservations for 6:30 to celebrate a birthday. At 8:20, we asked how much longer on our meals. The owner came out and told us that waiting 2 hours for our food was normal because it was just that good and we need to wait 2 hours on average for his food. My $26 meal consisted of 5 shrimp with canned mushrooms and a side of bland pasta. The owner's attitude was disgusting and I'm embarrassed for his employees. Our waiter and host apologized for the owner and said they felt embarrassed as well. I've been a waitress for 20 years now and counting, and this is this 1st review I ever left online. Another couple stopped us and said that this place should be embarrassed for how long it takes to receive food. BTW they came after us, ate, and left before we ever got food. read more

Just moved to Shelton and checking out all the restaurants. So far, La Scogliera is by far the best of the Italian restaurants. Trying to try more places before repeating, but after several mediocre experiences, will return for next Italian meal. Veal dish was excellent. Very friendly clientele. read more

First time visiting here. Hidden in a strip mall next to a self storage place and the lol giggling pig. Sat in the bar area and ordered. Service was great. We ordered "off the menu" the shrimp and cavatelle was unbelievable. The best rendition of this dish I have ever had. Fettuccini Alfredo came. Homemade pasta with a perfect plans of cream Parmesan and egg yolk. Portions are large so be prepared to share. Martinis are old school in a real glass and made exceptionally well. We had no room for dessert lol. Also, if you are an escargot fan try it here. Perfect sauce, firm and succulent escargot and enough bread for dipping. La Scogliera is AMAZING! I ordered the chicken parmesean and homemade cavatappi and it was 100% the best italian food I have ever tried. Thin and crispy chciken with the perfect amount of sauce. The pasta was perfectly cooked and also had an well portioned amount of sauce. My food was ready as soon as I got there which was incredible as I called on the way. Besides all the food the family who owns the resturant are wonderful. I highly reccomend this resturant! read more

I almost have no words to put into the description of what poor service we had at this establishment. Not to mention poor food. As a long time customer our meals came out totally wrong, and when we attempted to have it rectified we were actually yelled at by the waitress who told us not to make a scene meanwhile, she was the one making a scene. when someone asks for a grilled chicken salad and you come out with fried chicken clearly it's wrong when somebody is spending a lot of money on a veal dish and it comes out ice cold clearly it is wrong when somebody else orders dinner with a side of linguine and that comes out about an hour and a half too late after the meal is done sitting in a bowl of water mixed with sauce. It is a problem. We asked to speak with a manager and we're blatantly ignored by this rude waitress with long, dark hair. She is a miserable human being, and has absolutely no business working in a restaurant where customer service should be at the forefront. My friends nor myself will step foot in here again. Between the food and that one's attitude who needs it. There are plenty of restaurants that would love to accept our money when we go out. No one needs this that is for sure. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant. Family owned and run, with incredible authentic Italian food. There is so much to choose from on the menu and they have a variety of specials as well. I loved the Stuffed Meatball appetizer and the Stuffed Figs appetizer. I also tried the Fried Calamari which was very nice, it was not greasy at all so I liked it very much. My main course was the homemade Gnocchi with meat sauce- it was absolutely delicious! I also tried my boyfriends Zuppa de Pesce which was a huge portion, it is served over linguini and you can choose to have it spicy or not. The amount of seafood was incredible and it was so good! I also got to try the Nutella Pie...yum!! Service was perfect as well. I can't wait to come back to try more items on the menu! read more

Extremely limited menu unless you love Veal. Ate here once was have never returned. Was also very expensive for the very small portion size. The food was cooked well but wasn't bursting with flavor so I will not be returning. The server was also a little grumpy which just added to the mediocre experience. There are too many good Italian restaurants in CT to settle for average especially when costly too! read more

Hands down best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten at. This place is authentic in every detail. The antipasto is crave-worthy with fresh authentic meats and cheeses. The pasta is made from scratch and is perfectly cooked. The chicken Milanese is pounded paper thin and delightfully fried to perfection. The sol is so fantastically flaky and light.The wine is top notch and the staff are extremely attentive and competent. I can't get over how out of this world outstanding this place is. A superb dining experience. Visiting from Texas and this little gem of a restaurant was recommended. The meal was exceptional. The Nona serving us was super friendly and greeted my guest and I with a smile. Felt like we were part of the family. A must try while in Shelton and I will be coming back. Had been dying to go since many people recommended. I should have taken into account that the friends who suggested it were NOT Italian. Very crowded and staff seemed overwhelmed. Dinners were brought out one at a time. I opted for chicken parm and the breading on the chicken tasted like shake and bake; the sauce was underwhelming and might have been straight from a can. Had to wait forever for check. On the positive side, they allowed us to try various wines before we settled on our selection, and it was decently priced. However, I won't be returning. read more

Now this place is a find! It is in a terrible location for a nice restaurant. Right in the middle of what appears to be an abandoned strip mall converted to self storage facilities. There's enough parking for 20 restaurants. The storefront is also understated. Nothing about this place is going to draw walk-in business. But you must walk in! They've got one heck of a kitchen! I'm talking about absolutely excellent food! We had the famous stuffed meatballs, a little fish, a little pasta, a little steak, some Peronis and it was all excellent! I'll be back for sure! read more

The place itself is beautiful, cozy, inviting, and really nicely laid out. Tables seem to be a little on top of one another, but they're nice size tables. Started the night off with a tiramisu martini, it was excellent... Great way of marrying decade and tiramisu dessert with an alcoholic twist of martini. Also split the zucchini blossom with my husband. This was decadent, honestly a great balance between taste, the crispy fried texture, and the ever so smooth tomato sauce that came with it. It wasn't just a sauce, it was a brilliant combination of texture, taste, and color... The taste buds were very excited and couldn't wait for what was to come. At this point, we were really excited, oh, I forgot to mention, the homemade bread, with hints of rosemary... You have my heart once you bring me, rosemary! It was excellent, nice, soft and chewy, yet crispy on the outside and the whipped goat cheese, like butter with an excellent accompaniment to the bread. At this point, the cadence was at a great pace. Andres came shortly after. My husband ordered the pork chop, and I ordered the chili and Seabass special which came with mussels and a tomato sauce with basil on top of the corn risotto. The pork chop did look appealing, but whatever strange reason, the pork chop with sliced into half inch pieces which immediately raised a red flag for both my husband and me. My husband is very particular in ordering his pork medium well too well done, as he does not like seeing any pink in his pork whatsoever given a harrowing experience from years ago. having said that, I don't know if it was their intention to slice the pork to ensure it was cooked to the correct wellness, but in doing so, it dried up the pork completely and made this dish absolutely an edible for my husband. To boot, the pork really had no flavor, but it looked beautiful, even a mist being sliced in little pieces. I tried it, and I too, felt the taste to be very flat. The vegetables that came with it were very good, nicely, roasted, and perfectly done, but the meal is not about the vegetables. It's about the pork chop, let's be serious, especially at $47.95! My Seabass was also very flat, it tasted more like poached fish than it did like a seared fish. Really did not have much flavor in terms of spices, the muscles are good, and the risotto was very good, but that fish itself lacked any luster whatsoever again, at the price tag of $47.95. The waiter came and asked us how our meals were and my husband explained to him his disappointment with his dish saying how dried out it was, and the waiter waiters response was I'm sorry, I'll give you a dessert on the house... Really? An eight dollar dessert equates to a $48 meal and that should satisfy my husband. About 3/4 of the pork chop was not consumed and nothing else was done. He asked me how I felt about my fish and I told him it was flat and really didn't have much flavor. He looked at me and said ok and walked away. The owner who had given us such a nice greeting when we walked in, recognized my husband, and when he came by during our meal, never once did he ask us how we were. Honestly, a real disappointment, we started off so nice and strong with this place, and the biggest showcase was such a letdown and the way it was handled was even more disappointing. It was our first time and our last time here.

Good size thin cutlet coated with sauce and cheese, was definitely a hit. I went with the Cavatelli Rapini. Was cavatelli pasta tossed broccoli rabe, cannellini beans, sausage finished with garlic and olive oil. Full of flavor, I finished every bite, good size portion as well. Good amount of seating and serving was hearty and kind. We got a drink, app and 2 entrees and walked out without breaking the bank, really nice place!

For the main course, I went with the Lasagna made with ground beef and veal. It was absolutely delicious (I even took some home!) My husband went for the fillet mignon and he said the meat was cooked perfectly. The food was 5 stars! Things to note - It was a bit hard to have a conversation because it was loud. First…read moretime I was here was a very unfortunate time for our family as it was my Aunt's Celebration of Life Lunch after her funeral back in 2017. My uncle rented out the entire private event space. I remember the venue being absolutely stunning. Large glass windows and the bar was gorgeous. I didn't realize this was only the private event section of the restaurant. Fast forward to our visit back in October 2025, when we arrived and wanted to sit at this gorgeous bar that I had remembered, it turns out that area is for private events only. There was actually a wedding going on. So, we sat at the main bar and had a drink which is upstairs. Downstairs is where the private events are. Although the main bar was nice, I just had in my head the gorgeous modern vibe of the event space. The main bar is more old school Italian, warm colors whereas downstairs is more bright and modern. Moving on to the food, we split the Giulio Cesare (Ceasar salad). It was fine. Nothing special. Lots of cheese on top. For entrees, I had the Ippoglosso alla Boscaiola con Pure di Patate e Asparagi (Halibut). It was incredible. No complaints. Boyfriend had the Salmone alla Senape e Dragoncello con Spinaci e Pomodorini (Salmon). He enjoyed his dish as well. What I did not love was the dessert. I don't even remember what it was, but it should have been thawed out a bit. It was rock hard when it got to our table. Some sort of a pistachio dessert. I feel like it may have been a torte. We did not enjoy it. I think it was a special they had. Would highly recommend the event space here (beautiful ambiance), however I don't remember much about the food at the event. The building itself is quite impressive as you walk up to it. Nice grounds.

Food was very disappointing, nothing like it used to be. Other large groups in the room that were seated after us, got their drinks, appetizers and food before us. They got their checks before we were served dinner. My only conclusion is our server was not on the ball. Going to take a lot to convince me to come back.
