My new favorite restaurant in the DF.
The Condesa neighborhood is beautiful & full of many trendy restaurants with outdoor seating. This particular part of Condesa, across from Parque Mexico, is the center point of the area & quite active.
I stumbled across La Ruota (there's no sign on the door) after the first 2 Yelp recommended businesses in the area turned out to be closing earlier than their Yelp listings & their signs on their entrances. I went to a 3rd Yelp recommended restaurant & was told they were basically sold out of all of their popular menu items. The service at each of these other places ranged from disinterested to downright rude. What a difference at La Ruota, however!
The business owner, Mariam, took the time to personally introduce herself at our table. When she heard us speaking English, she immediately switched from Spanish into perfect English. Her staff made a great wine suggestion & were very conscientious about checking in on our table to be sure everything was satisfactory. We did not realize it at the time, but Mariam kept the restaurant open late just for us. We overheard her saying good night to one of her workers, & it was quite touching to see the motherly way she asked them about having a ride home & about how they were doing in their personal life.
Mariam had such passion for her new business, that when we expressed how much we enjoyed the food & the ambience, she insisted on treating us to a special dessert & introducing us to her partner. Truly one of the best customer service experiences I have had in Mexico City. read more
