Horrible, pre-made, tough, dessicated, microwaved, and it showed. Beans tasted canned, orange rice from a mix. Sodas we ordered were flat and off tasting. Our waiter told us there was a problem with there soda system, served it anyway. If not for my Tacos, and a polite wait staff, I'd have given one star. $47 with tax & tip, a major disappointment. Picked this spot on a whim on our way home to Hunterdon County, and we are so happy we did! Everything was so fresh and delicious and you could tell it was homemade. The Steak a la Mexicana was spicy and flavorful with tender steak, the Carne Adobada was chargrilled and delicious, and my seven year old was raving about the kids quesadilla. We were lucky enough to grab an outdoor seat on a beautiful afternoon. As per usual the chips and salsa came out and the chips were crisp, puffy and delicious as was the chunky salsa. It also came out with a delicious sauce that was flavorful and not too spicy. We ordered the appetizer special which was an avocado and crab mix that was served in a hollowed out avocado shell and was beyond delicious. Creamy, flavorful and with no shortage of succulent crab. I'd go back just for that. Main course of a casadilla and burrito Al pastor were also prepared perfectly and were big enough to take some home. Started out with stale chips and just ok tasting salsa. I ordered the chile relleno. Started eating it from the tip upwards towards the top of the pepper. The first couple bits seemed ok. Then I cut the rest of the ground beef and chicken pepper into bite sized pieces. From there I discovered the ground beef in the larger end of the pepper was still raw. Meaning the ground beef was still completely red. Of course I stopped eating it at that point. When the waitress came out I pointed out that the ground beef was still raw she took the plate away. She returned shortly after and told me a bold face lie that the ground beef was supposed to look like that. I then pointed out that the tip of the pepper had browned ground beef. I asked for the check when she returned with it I asked if she took the meal off. She said they took half off. At that point I was just ready to take my losses and leave. Left $0 for a tip and glad I did. After leaving and looking at the receipt I discovered she had told yet another lie. They charged me $10.00 for the relleno when it's $17.95. Who knows maybe they just don't know basic math. Would never go back and will make sure that nobody that I know goes there to eat. I'll be surprised if they're in business much longer. read more

I came here with a group of friends around 4 p.m. and parking was already pretty limited, so I can imagine that it's much worse during peak dining hours. We sat on the outdoor patio area, which was pretty and quaint. I thought our waitress was sweet and attentive. Even though the prices are reasonable, I wasn't impressed with the food at La Rienda. I ordered the bistec encebollado and tried some of my friend's entree, the churrasco. I wasn't expecting the bistec encebollado to be cut up because when I've ordered previously at other Spanish restaurants, I was served a whole piece of steak. Despite looking a little different than expected, it tasted pretty on par. I found the dish flavorful but extremely salty. I have similar thoughts about the churrasco, but found it to be overcooked as well. The rice and beans that came with it to be average. I also found the guacamole we ordered for the table to be average. Because I'm not from the area, I don't really see myself coming back here. Nothing about my experience here really stood out to me, but this isn't to say that the food is bad. I've just had better closer to home. read more

The negative's: Tiny place with tables crammed in, they tried putting 4 people at a table for 2, owner is present but doesn't acknowledge diners, front of the house is a mess - a bunch of girls who are friends of the family running around attempting to waitress but are clueless on how to describe the dishes & when they do, something they described came out a lot different. When we asked the waitress what kind of steak was in an entree she goes to the kitchen & comes back to tell us it's "skillet steak" - what is that? Asked multiple times for glasses of ice, etc. The list goes on. In any case, I think the back of the house where they are making the food is on the right track. If you like Mexican food with your salt, then try this place out. Everything was overly salty. Service was pretty slow, but what isn't these days during Covid. The waitress was pleasant, friendly and attentive when she had the time to deal with us. The place needed a serious spring cleaning, and you better use the rest room at home before venturing here. I arrived around 4pm on a beautiful Saturday. The place was empty and I sat outside. I ordered the ceviche, shrimp tacos, and a margarita. Service was kinda slow considering I was the only person there besides a family that were finished eating and paying their bill. The food and margarita were very mediocre. The shrimp in the ceviche was frozen. I bit into ice instead of shrimp. I then sat their with an empty margarita in an empty eating area for a while and nobody asked if I wanted I refill. You could hear my echo. Bad service, poor management, and mediocre food. At least the manager refunded my ceviche. I'm baffled by the great reviews considering my experience there. read more

Ordered take out for the first time. Guac was amazing and a lot. My boyfriend ordered a steak burrito and there was zero steak in the burrito. It was all rice and beans. I honestly think they forgot to add the steak altogether which is super annoying considering steak is a premium option. I ordered a chicken burrito which was good. It had plenty of chicken but the chicken was super dry with no taste. We ordered chicken nachos which had barely any cheese and chicken and the chips were small. Had a very good meal at La Rienda in Long Valley. A quaint little rustic place in a house from the 1700's probably. The salsa served was more like a pico de gallo. Very fresh and very bright flavors. Could have used a little more spice for my tastes but Netty, the owner who tours the dining rooms making sure everyone is happy,would be glad to dice up a little jalapeno for you. We had a beautiful ceviche appy. Very clean frsh and bright flavors. The ingredients here are very fresh. Entrees are healthy portion and very reasonably priced. I got the churrasco. The most expensive beef dish on the menu @ 16 dollars. Run by a family, service was well paced and a good experience. Overall, Id give La Rienda a 4 (because I dont give 5's). But to say the chef was a bit heavy-handed with the salt is a huge understatement! The guacamole was excellent. The margaritas were very good. Pretty disappointed in La Rienda since there were so many positive reviews on yelp. The pico de gallo that came with the chips was really delicious, but as someone pointed out, a little watery as you got closer to the bottom. I ordered the La Rienda Suelta and wasn't amazed. The rice was tasty and the sausage was perfectly seasoned, but everything else was subpar. The steak was over cooked and I was struggling to cut it into slices. The sauce that was out on top of the steak made it taste very salty. Overall, the dish lacked a lot of flavor. Parking here is really cramped since the lot is shared by other restaurants. I can see this easily being crowded on a Friday or Saturday night. Prices are pretty reasonable here, but I don't think I would come back. read more
