Not sure how we've missed this place in the past but I am so happy that we finally found it! It was around lunchtime on a Sunday, we were leaving Chester, pulled down a side street and brightly decorated front porch caught our eye. We immediately parked and walked right in. We were greeted promptly and seated at one of the few tables that were still available. Our waiter was friendly and his service was fast. We found so many delicious things on the menu we had a difficult time deciding, but once he read us the specials I knew - Birria Tacos with warm Consome. He was excited that I had ordered these tacos because it was a chilly fall day and he said they would warm me right up. He was right. Best birria tacos I've ever had. Perfect size (double corn tortilla) Mexican style with tons of cilantro and slices of lime to squeeze on top. Day one I ordered al pastor, carnitas & bistec Went back the next day :) and ordered the pollo, al pastor & campechanos. I also asked for some hot sauce and was give a little bit of their house made ( I need to buy - it was amazing ) Ended it all with a massive cup of cafe de la olla Decor and music were great Food is a home run Service is excellent Prices are very good - each taco is $3.50 vs the tacos at Villalobos in Montclair for $6 & 7 each - plus these were filled pretty heavy. We came here for lunch and were all blown away with how good the food was. You wouldn't expect it from the unassuming exterior but this food was delicious and definitely homemade. The seating is a little cramped however the server was extremely friendly and helpful. The mole enchiladas I ordered were so flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Aztec has been my go to non-chain Mexican in the Randolph area for about 2 years now. The food is consistently delicious and the service professional. Their dishes are fun variation on classic fare and differentiates them from other run of the mill Mexican. I feel like the kitchen is run by a loving uncle or grandmother who wants to keep the culinary tradition alive. Post-COVID, I'm very glad they've been able to stay afloat and patronize them every chance I get to make sure they stay that way. Isolated pickup in the rear of the building has never made me feel unsafe and the staff have stayed upbeat and dedicated from what I can tell from my conversions with them. They charge for those at lunch which I didn't like. Salsa was fresh and also very good. We will definitely return, but please reconsider your charging for at least the first basket of chips and salsa during lunch. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a separate menu for each, so come early if you want huevos rancheros because they emphatically do not serve breakfast all day - believe me I tried lol. Tucked away in half a house, this tiny Mexican joint offers 8 tables where you can enjoy the usual standards like enchiladas, burritos, tacos and tortas. Bring your own, they'll give you Michelada fixings if that suits you, also sangria, margaritas etc. I'm a fan for the strong flavors and low prices. Start with chips & salsa, size small was $4, apparently not on the menu anywhere I could find (??) but anyhow our friendly young waitress set us right up. The salsa was served in a little molcajete, tasted like gently mashed pico de gallo, very fresh and seemingly uncooked, I would pretty much swear it wasn't from a jar, but zero heat. Chips were large and crisp, unsalted. I tried the El Papi burrito, a blend of chorizo, rice, cheese and grilled onions - excellently spicy and a generous portion for $10. But the menu points out "rice and beans inside" which translates into "no sides for you!" ;) Served on a plate & cut in half, you ain't picking this up and eating it in a piece of foil. A side of rice & beans is $5. She who must be obeyed tried the chimichanga, a nice preparation of diced mild jalapeño peppers, rice, beef chunks and cheese in a lightly fried shell, definitely not greasy, $11. Service when we visited Aztec was cheerful, fast but inattentive - i.e., food arrived after a very short wait but a water refill just wasn't gonna happen. Vegetarian rating: about 3 stars, choose from a veggie quesadilla, veggie burrito, or mole cheese enchiladas or a chiles relleno with cheese. Gluten-averse peeps will do well here. Also has a kids menu, and serves burgers for adult gringos. And take out encouraged. How does little Chester enjoy such a concentration of decent mexican places?? Unfortunately, not very impressed. It was empty when the four of us arrived for dinner. The atmosphere isn't great. There was loud music playing which we didn't mind, but it was coming from the basement (which was odd). The chips and salsa were disappointing as you could tell the salsa was just from a jar. This is a Mexican restaurant! How do you not make your own salsa? Three of us ordered the same thing (chalupas) and found the sauce to be almost inedible. Very disappointing. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the one of us who ordered tacos said they were very good, and because our waitress was nice. Otherwise, overpriced for Mexican food (especially bad Mexican food). Definitely won't be back! read more

Furthermore, I'd be tempted to give the the benefit of the doubt if the service had been remotely professional, but the people who work there border on bullying levels of unprofessional behavior if you have the temerity to try to address being served rotten food.
