This year-old spot in Wharton is such a gem. The vibe inside is vibrant and colorful, with walls full of character, while the outdoor seating looked inviting too--we chose to sit inside and soak it all in. Our server, Camilo, was fantastic! Super attentive, friendly, and on top of everything all night. Even on a quiet Monday, the margaritas were flowing. I tried both the passion fruit and strawberry versions, both super refreshing, flavorful, and not too sweet. Food came out looking as good as it tasted. The chicken flautas special arrived golden and crispy, topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, and a sprinkle of cotija cheese. My date's chicken quesadilla stole the show--cheesy, loaded, and absolutely delicious. The fish tacos were another highlight, served in a generous portion that could easily be shared, and packed with flavor. With four drinks and three entrées, the bill came to about $100, which felt really fair given the quality and portions. Between the vibrant setting, great service, and tasty food, this place deserves to be on your list. I'll definitely be back!

First time here and ... Food excellent! Drinks excellent! Atmosphere excellent! Service excellent!

Really enjoyed my lunch at colossal. To start, chips were served and the sauce served with it is very good. I love me some queso fundido I ordered that as an app. I dipped the cheese in the chips and ate it with the tortilla chips. I enjoyed it. I then had the Al pastor tacos. It was not great, but still good and I enjoyed it. Big kudos to the decor inside. The art is very nice. The service was also very very good and there is plenty of space to sit with the restaurant having many tables. Would recommend.

    Taco Tuesday special $13

I've driven by this place countless times and finally decided to try their happy hour that was advertised outside. Happy hour is offered from 12-6 Monday to Thursday and offered a variety of food for $9-$11 including flautas and appetizers. We tried the yuca fries and platter which included a taco, cheesy chorizo, and cheese quesadilla. They were large portions for happy hour specials and tasty! They also offer taco Tuesday special for $13 which includes an alcoholic drink and two tacos with a protein of your choice excluding tuna and Baja fish. Unfortunately they don't allow you to mix proteins. I had the mango margarita which was strong and steak tacos which were very flavorful. Tacos were a decent size and filled. I would definitely return especially on a Tuesday! Service was great and it was very clean! Decor was so fun inside!

We love this place! We ordered Chicken Fajitas & Tostaditas Acapulquenas. The portions were generous and the tastes were authentic Mexican. The server was friendly & attentive. Nice ambiance, artworks are modern but classic. And one big bonus! The restrooms are spacious & clean!

I can't believe I forgot to write this review right after. This place is exactly what Wharton needed. Food: Mexican fare with some cool additions, we started with the Colossal Calamari which might be one of my favorite calmari's to date. Light, airy, but the sauces were excellent. I also got a burrito bravado which is hearty and delicious. Service: our waiter Ali was exceptional. He was on top of everything and he was super nice. Aesthetic: sometimes restaurants have too many things up on the walls that are contrasting and make the room noisy. This place has a lot up, but it is the right style and right feel that makes this place such a beautiful location. I love the "traditional" pieces that they have hanging and their use of neon signs is cute and tasteful.

The vibe in here is incredible. Sharp day-of-the-dead artwork, on-point neon lighting, colorful flowers at each table... the owners had fun setting this up, and they want you to have fun too. You'd never know that Pop's Chicken used to occupy this building. I was tended to by Camilo, who I gather is part of the family that operates Colossal. He's bilingual and talks super fast in both English and Spanish. I had to ask him a few times to repeat himself so I could understand the specials. They really have a huge menu, and unfortunately it's on an iPad, which is a turn-off. There were entrees over a huge range between $15-30, and I gather that the more expensive ones are far larger portions. I went with a coconut lemonade (perhaps a little too sweet) and fish tacos. I'd eat these fish tacos again: cooked to the right temperature, crunchy yet moist, slathered in mayo, and with shredded cabbage for texture. That said, they were messy to eat. The tortilla was just packed. My real cloth napkin (!) was just covered in sauce when I was done. I was disappointed not to find a margarita on the menu. In fact there were no alcoholic drinks. Maybe they'll get a license? This place has lots of ambition - you can see it in the playing, the decor, and the way the owners asked on my way out about my experience. It's really good already, and with some additional balance to the food it could be great.

A Mexican restaurant gem to say the least! This spot has the cutest ambiance and can comfortable accommodate groups of all sizes. They have a small bar area with incredible cocktails and Mexican classics like Jarritos. The menu has a really nice variety and all of the dishes are plated as beautifully as they taste! The service was excellent and the staff were super attentive. Would definitely recommend this spot for any occasion!

Servers were very attentive and welcoming, place was well decorated and picture worthy, food portions were adequate for the price. I wouldn't say it's authentic Mexican food but the food was good.

The food was excellent. Accommodating with spice levels. We enjoyed their brunch menu. Very modern presentation. Ambience excellent and the service was even better. Guacamole was also excellent.

Great service. Great ambiance. Great presentation and flavor. I honestly can't say enough...I pulled up outside and there were not many cars but my daughter convinced me to try it and I am so glad we did!! It was amazing. Definitely worth stopping by!!

***2 1/2 stars***…read more It's rare that I have a mediocre experience where I actually want to go back to the place to give it another shot. I came here yesterday for a post-Odyssey meal with my top-tier chum from the Kingdom of Sussex around 3:30pm. We found this place by playing one of my favorite games, Yelp Roulette, where you scroll through the nearby activity feed and just pick a place that shows up on there. You can really get burned doing that, or find an interesting spot you wouldn't have otherwise stumbled upon. This one was a little column A, a little column B. The overall space is what Norte 175 really has going for it - it's a really cool building, and they've done some edgy interior decorating. It's super spacious and definitely a place I could see myself coming back for drinks in the future. My chum got a margarita but I'm in training so had to forego - arguably, maybe that was the issue; comparing notes, the drink was probably the best item either of us had, and I didn't get it. And it IS a tequila bar. I did get a diet soda, which had solid carbonation, so there's that at least. Neither of us were insanely hungry (we had a bit of fuel before our three-hour movie screening) so we split three apps - the guac, the chicken quesadilla and the grilled octopus. None of them were particularly noteworthy. Palate preference, but the guac had way too much stuff in it for me; I like a smooth, avocado-forward guac, not obscenely chunky with tons of onions guac. The octopus was not the best - texture is really important with that dish, and this one was way too chewy. The accompanying sauce didn't do enough to negate that for me. And the quesadilla was just okay; a bit bland and could probably use some kind of aioli sauce in it, or perhaps more seasoning overall with the chicken. It was fine and the best of the three, which sadly isn't saying much. We also got the raspberry lemon mousse cake (well, pretty much I did - my chum had literally one bite to be polite). As you can see from the attached, it doesn't look like anything like its stock photo on the menu, which is worth noting - still looks fine but given how different it looks in person, arguably false advertising on some level. If you're thinking about getting it, I'd rely on customer photos versus the menu if the optics are important to you. Tasty but a little too sweet - they doubled down, essentially, on the tartness, which made it a bit overwhelming, but I could easily see a lot of people being into this. The service was just okay. Our waitress did stop by occasionally but just didn't seem to be in a great mood. It honestly felt like a bit of an imposition to ask her for anything. Obviously could have just been having a bad day, but when your primary responsibility is hospitality dot dot dot. She wasn't mean by any stretch but I just wouldn't categorize her as pleasant. Is what it is. This place could really benefit from its location, literally five minutes from the Rockaway Mall - and this isn't an area with an enormous amount of options beyond the chains, so they have a legit opportunity to cash in if they can improve the food options. We'll see what happens in the future with round two.

My family loves their empanadas so when I come I grab a bunch to take home. I got 12 and had to eat one in the car before I started on the 30 min drive back home. I was disappointed, there's is nothing worse then romanticizing a food only to get it and not be what you you've been craving. (first world problems for sure.) The filling was very wet and seemed to be more of a gravy then chicken and potato. It tastes like oil and didn't seem to be completely cooked through. It didn't help that the person that waited on me was a bit abrupt. They seemed like they were annoyed I ordered so many and that picking up the already cooked food to put it in a bag was a real pain. Overall disappointed in the food and the experience. I'll take crappy customer service for delicious food any day. But you can't have mediocre food and treat paying customers like crap.
