Went in for early supper on Sunday 3/29. Street parking along Dover streets. Greeted warmly. Place has a nice vibe: people in conversation, laughing, being friendly. We were served chips with green sauce (gets spicy) and red sauce (is spicy) and were given a second basket of chips by our friendly waiter. I ordered a hot chocolate (delicious) on a whim, and enjoyed every sip. Laura ordered a burrito, I ordered three tacos. Large servings -- and, be advised: heavy hand on the cilantro, although I found it just fine. Food was excellent. Our waiter is from the Mexican state of Veracruz, and he was really friendly and nice. Great value for the money. Laura has been there before. I know I'll go back. Highly recommended. read more

I ordered for delivery. Wanted to pay with my card. When I gave the girl my card number she proceeded to repeat my card number out loud. When I asked her not to say it out loud because someone could get my number she got aggravated and hung up me. Then when I called back they wouldn't answer the phone. I was craving Mexican food and in the area so I decided to try Azteca Mexican Restaurant. My brother and his wife having been coming her for years, and whenever I mention Mexican food they tell me to try Azteca Mexican Restaurant. It's on the corner of Blackwell Street and Morris Street in Dover. Everything here is freshly made. I watched the cook prepare everything from scratch. I knew when I walked in and saw some of the menu in Spanish, I was in for a treat. My server Daniella was very friendly and soft spoken. She immediately served a basket of homemade tortilla chips and two kinds of dipping sauces. One was green and tasted medium hot like a salsa verde.The other sauce was red and had a bit more heat. Both sauces were delicious, and I couldn't stop eating them. After looking over the menu( in both English and Spanish) I decided on some fresh guacamole with lots of cilantro. I like that I could have my own little Molcajete.( pronounced (mo-heca meaning lava type bowl or mortar.) My sister-in-law doesn't like cilantro and we each were able to get our own. The guacamole was very fresh and I could taste, as well as see the fresh avocado ,lime juice, and cilantro along with the spices. For my lunch choice I went with CHICKEN ENCHILADAS VERDE in a green sauce.) I happen to like spicy food, and my server Daniella pointed out that this dish has a bit of spice. For me it was perfect. Not too hot, with just the right amount of heat. My dish came with 4 enchiladas, topped with shredded lettuce, onions, sour cream, and cheese. Yellow rice and refried beans came on the side. I love salsa verde and this dish was excellent. I took half home because I ate so many tortilla chips and sauce. My sister-in-law ordered the BEEF TACOS. Her dish came with 3 soft shelled tacos filled with beef, lettuce, onions, ( no cheese for her.) She got sliced avocado instead of tomatoes. This dish also was served with yellow rice and refried beans, it too was thoroughly enjoyed. Azteca Mexican Restaurant serves Mexican sodas, flavored waters, milkshakes, coffee, flavored teas, regular sodas. They get a lot of locals and workers from the area so they have takeout. I saw a man at the counter order a big bowl of their beef soup. It was loaded with meat and veggies and looked really good and hearty. The decor is simple, nothing fancy. There is a small dining room with a few tables and chairs , counter seating, and several booths for eating in. I can see why my brother comes here. The people are all very nice, and the food is authentic Mexican and prices are decent. This restaurant ONLY TAKES CASH. There is parking on the street, during the day it can get very busy. What a disappointment. Cash only. Hot as heck, inside. Flavorless food. I ordered steak and onions: super thin cut, griddle cooked, tough to chew. It came with some rice and mixed veggies (I think that's what it was) plus super runny beans (more like flavorless bean juice). The other two guests were aghast as their meals were just as bad if not worse. The burrito meal was served like street tacos on flour tortilla: tasteless and unappetizing with the beef color looking suspect. We left after 2 bites straight to Chipotle. read more

Authentic Mexican food for sure! A bit of a hole in the wall and only accepts cash...but that doesn't bother me at all. Love hole in the wall places! The chips and salsa is soooo good, I always appreciate a good salsa and they give you two salsas here! I've had the tacos, burritos, guac, and enchiladas with salsa verde mmm. The service is good and the food is always really tasty. Plus there is usually parking in the area so that's a plus too. Overall great food and very good prices and service. Real deal authentic, not cheap, not expensive, flavourful Mexican food. My brother and I came here after hiking and I ordered champurrado, Tacos de Pollo and my brother ordered Tostadas de Res and they were really tasty. The champurrado was unexpectedly flavourful, it had a strong cinnamony chocolate taste which warned the soul.The nachos were incredibly crisp and crunchy. Both salsas were very flavourful and you know that the food was homemade. Rice and beans accented the tacos nicely and the tostadas were really crispy. The sour cream on top hit the spot as well. Definitely authentic! Be aware if you order take out, you will need to know how to speak some Spanish. Tostadas were tasty, with shredded lettuce, tomato, crema and queso fresco. Order came with 3, super filling. The enchiladas verde was outstanding and the guac we ordered was bomb, chunky with onion and lots of cilantro. Very authentic... DELICIOUS! This was the most authentic mexican restuarant that I had ever been to. Upon sitting down, we were given two salsas and chips. The salsa was spicy. I could handle the heat, but was surprised to realize that this was served as their "table salsa" so to speak. They do not have a full bar, but we could order beer. We ordered gauc which was mixed with their verde salsa and it was GOOD. Our entrees were a Mole dish and Flautas. Both were extrememly good. The flan was also a great texture and taste. My wife and I were in the area and were looking for Mexican food. Azteca came up in a search and had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. The food was EXCELLENT, very fresh. I had the Big Burrito with chicken. The chicken was very well cooked and seasoned. The burrito also had beans and rice in it and was covered by a variety of fresh, authentic vegetables including a cilantro and avocado/guacamole type salad and salsa. The portion was very good sized (I was very hungry and barely finished it) and the total dinner (three taco combo along with my burrito) cost us under $20. I wish we lived closer to swing by here more often. Don't let the 'hole in the wall' feel when walking in fool you, this place has VERY GOOD food! read more

Other Mexican restaurants come and go, but thank God Azteca persists! Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant, and I could eat Mexican until I turned into a taco, as Mom used to say!! The food is always fresh and almost hauntinglyh aromatic. This is a small place, basically no- frills on decor, but I can deal with that as the food is always superb! I've been back to Azteca about 15 times since the first review and I was really pleased that they never disappointed. The tortas are really good and definitely worth a try.
