We have always considered this a place we could count on, which made this visit particularly upsetting. The Reuben sandwich we were served was burnt and looked so poorly presented that it honestly appeared as though it had already been partially eaten. At that point, I had serious concerns about the quality and care being put into the food. Unfortunately, the service only made the situation worse. The wait staff was rude, dismissive, and did not make us feel like our concerns mattered. To be fair, the manager was very helpful and did what they could to address the situation. However, by that point, the experience had already taken its toll and I had completely lost my appetite. After 15+ years of being loyal customers, it's difficult to leave a 1-star review. But this was not simply a bad meal--it was an experience that genuinely made us question the standards and level of care at a place we have supported for so many years. I sincerely hope management takes this seriously, because this is not the kind of experience longtime customers should have. Not sure if there is new ownership, but doubt I'll be back.

I was in need of killing time before a crochet lesson down the street and I thought enjoying a cocktail was a good idea. I was able to get a seat at the bar and immediately starting reading the menu of their signature cocktails. I went with, Sign Painter. It was served in a fluted glass and was made with rye whiskey. I'm a big fan of rye and I found this drink very refreshing. I am a cocktail snob, I enjoy a well made cocktail. Being a snob, I want a mixologist that prepares a masterful cocktail. Enjoying my cocktail and watching the gentleman working behind the bar, I can honestly say, he is a masterful bartender. This visit, I did not order any food items. However, seeing the food severed around me, I'll definitely be back to enjoy to enjoy some Crab Stuffed Mushrooms or a Crab Cake Sandwich. The inside of the bar is compact. In addition to the bar sitting, there's a row of booths along the wall. Beyond the barroom, is a backroom that's is pretty comfy and classy, too. In front of the building is a welcoming patio, that I'll be back to check out in better weather. After just one visit, I know I'll be back. If I still lived in STL, I'd probably be a regular. But the bartender was quick and the food, mac and cheese, came out in no time. The winter sangria was a serious drink. Not a punchy, fruity sangria. This was a winey sangria. It was a pretty serious drink. I'd probably get a weaker, sweeter drink next time, because that is my taste. The mac and cheese was pretty good. Quite hot! It came packed in this little bowl. I felt so cozy here... It made for one of my preferred eating out in the city in winter experiences.

So what was it like? The service is a mixed bag. You have to go to the service, it doesn't come to you. The menu is not too complicated. We came for pizza. And all the pizzas have an artist name. We had the Francis Bacon. It's a meat pizza that's pretty good on top but the crust was so burnt it killed the pizza joy. At $18.50 this pizza shouldn't be charcoal around the crust. On the other hand the salads were excellent. The small ranch salad was a delightful mix of romaine with bacon, heirloom tomatoes, Parmesan with some very thinly sliced onions and a delicious ranch dressing. This was the best $5.49 salad I've ever had and it was the redeeming dish for our meal. Overall the food was satisfactory in quantity but take ten points off for the burnt crust. We put in our order at the bar where we had to wait in line. Minus 10 points. The salad arrived quickly but the wait for the pizza was longer than expected. I guess they need extra time to burn the crust. Now as to ambiance. There isn't any. It's a neighborhood joint. The stools are too high and the benches outside are too hard. But in the end we enjoyed it. It's a neighborhood joint.

There are restaurants you remember because of the food, and there are places you remember because…read morethey simply feel good to be in. Gallery Pub definitely falls into the second category. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and feels like the kind of neighborhood place where friends gather after work or meet up on a weekend afternoon. It has personality, and I genuinely wanted to love it. The cocktails got us off to a great start. My gin and tonic was clean, crisp, and well balanced with quality tonic. Ordering is done at the counter, and while the bartender simply called out, "Here you go!" when our drinks were ready, that's clearly just how they keep things moving without running all over the restaurant. We ordered three calzones and a cup of roasted red pepper soup. The soup was tasty, and the calzone dough was excellent--hot, chewy, yeasty, and exactly what a pizza crust should be. Here's where I think they missed an opportunity. The standard calzone comes with three fillings. Looking over all the delicious options, we wanted to pay extra to add a fourth ingredient, but were told that wasn't possible because of the size. As someone who was literally trying to spend more money, that was confusing. The bigger issue was that the fillings themselves were pretty sparse. The flavors were there, but the quantity just wasn't. The bread ended up carrying the meal instead of the ingredients inside. A more generously filled calzone would have completely changed the experience. When we finished, we all had the same reaction: "That was good." Unfortunately, none of us said, "We have to come back." That's the disappointing part because Gallery Pub has everything else going for it. The atmosphere is one of its greatest strengths, and it's the kind of place you want to root for. I just wish the food had been as memorable as the space itself. I hope they reconsider being a little more generous with the fillings and embrace customers who want to customize their orders. Sometimes it's the small things that turn a nice neighborhood pub into someone's favorite neighborhood pub.

Clayton was busy, so street parking was hard to find. Once seated, we were greeted with friendly service and were brought water. I ordered a ginger beer with cranberry juice added to it for a refreshing mocktail. We ordered the Squeaky Cheese to start, the golden-brown cheese curds were gooey and had the perfect crunch. They were served with marinara and a serrano dill aioli. The aioli had just the right amount of spice, complementing the dill flavor. The marinara was saucy and also good. I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger with fries. The burger was juicy, sweet, and had a nice crunch. The bacon jam was subtle, but it enhanced the overall flavor. My only complaint was that the bottom bun came out a bit soggy causing the burger to lose structure as I ate it. The fries were thin and crunchy!
