Finished Cake with a candle added.
    Jay B.

We have bought one cake here for my Brothers Birthday a week ago. This has been the only business we have given this place but the cake was very good. Chocolate Moose cake both light and very flavorful. They decorated it well with a custom name and "Happy Birthday" for us. We didn't order ahead, simple dropped in and picked up one of the standard offerings. It was frozen at the time and we ended up keeping it frozen for another week without a problem. Our original plans didn't work out. The physical location seemed clean and well ordered. It would not object to giving them more business in the future. It wasn't a large cake and still cost $30, but this seems like a average rate to me for a bakery. I would say the quality was better then the average grocery store cake.

Lemon loaf was delicious and better than the ones at Stubbe Chocolates. Due to covid restrictions, expect a small wait

It's rather small and doesn't have too much selection. We got 2 pecan tarts ($2.50 each) and an almond croissant ($2.60). The almond croissant was ok. It only had a thin layer of ground almond paste in it. It tasted buttery and was flakey, and tasted better than almond croissants at grocery stores like Loblaws, but I expected more from a small bakery. The pecan tarts were ok. They had little pieces of candied fruits in it, like the stuff in fruitcake. I am not a fan of fruitcake nor am I a fan of candied fruits. If you like the aforementioned items, then perhaps you will like their little twist on pecan tarts. However, if you are not a fan like me, then you might want to pass. They had date squares (another thing I don't like), scones, macarons, and some other items. Not all items have prices listed. I may return to try some macarons, especially if they are only $1 each like a previous reviewer mentioned (the price was not listed in the store). Service was nice and friendly. There are 2 bistro tables for 2 inside the bakery, but it's mostly for takeout. Lots of free parking in the strip mall parking lot.

I may try again just to see how consistent they are, but unfortunately I'm not in a huge rush to do so.

The Long Version: I stopped in British Pride Bakery to check it out since I was in the area for other reasons. I was impressed with the amount of snacks they had imported from the UK. They had lots of biscuits (cookies), chocolate and crisps (chips). They had a clearance section where items were marked down to half-price. These were all nearing or past their best before dates. They also had clearance items throughout the store. I was there for the baked goods though. I got a Corned Beef Pasty ($4.50), a Custard Tart ($3.50) and a Butter Tart ($2.95). After I ordered the pasty, I saw they had warm ones in the warmer by the cash register (different flavours though). The ones in the glass displays are cold, so I had to take it home to warm it up. The Corned Beef Pasty was ok, but the filling was mostly potatoes with very little corned beef. The pastry was flaky and it was good but I enjoyed the sweet items I bought more. The custard tart was delicious. I like that it wasn't too sweet. The custard was soft and creamy. The crust was a little too buttery for me, lol. But I'm sure that's an odd complaint. The butter tart was sweeter and also tasty. It has no raisins or nuts. I prefer to have something in the filling, but those who like just the buttery goo will like the ones here. The place is spacious, brightly lit and clean. Staff were very courteous and pleasant. FYI: They charge a 2.26% surcharge if you use a credit card to pay. They are transparent about this, the cashier advised me and it's posted right next to their payment machine. I personally find this charge hefty. I chose not to pay it by using debit instead. This store opened November 13, 2023. It's a chain. The first store opened in Cambridge, ON in 2010. They have since expanded to 8 locations across Ontario. This Stittsville location is in a plaza. Lots of free parking available in the plaza. Review #35 (2025)

I neglected to say in my previous review, that the restaurant is vegan, as well as gluten free and Kosher. They also have a shop in Westboro, which is how I got to know of them, as it's close to where I usually work, but with COVID restrictions and working from home, I have been told they are still open there too (thanks Jennifer P!). I am really glad they have one in Kanata. Their pastries and cakes and cookies really are all delicious, and high calorie. Ok, they're decadent! I really can't wait till shut down orders are done, so that I can meet my knitting friends for a nosh and a coffee there. One day; one day... Meanwhile, this review is for today's visit. We just picked up coffee, which was ok. I have to admit that I had forgotten that they are vegan, which means they don't serve cow's milk, and they don't bake with it either. For my latte, I had a choice of oat, soy, or I believe coconut. I chose coconut because I don't like the other 2 choices. If I remember correctly, last time we were here, I think I took my black coffee home with me, and put milk in it; sacreligious, I know! Today, I did the same, as it turns out I am not fond of coconut 'milk' either. Oh well! Live and learn. Bravo, and good luck to Strawberry Blond.

The desserts were average, my request for adding blueberries turned out to be blackberries, and the crepes were surprisingly crispy rather than soft. We arrived about an hour before closing, ordered two crepes, one waffle, two drinks, a hot dog, and poutine. Our server was friendly, but we were surprised she didn't have to write down our order at all. To our disappointment... all desserts were served first, only to find out about an hour later, our poutine & hot dog was never inputted. When we asked if it was on the way, she said the machines were all shut down already. (The only things we thoroughly enjoyed was the drinks) We stopped in for a late night snack & dessert as I've been wanting to try this place out everytime I pass by after the movies but it turned out to be a bit of a letdown tonight.

The restaurant was very cute, in the way it was decorated. Unfortunately, since this place is so new the staff were very disorganized. Upon entering we had a very uncomfortable moment when we waited to be seated. The man standing at the podium did not acknowledge us, he even looked up and ignored us. A hostess or waiter appeared and took us to our table. We sat at this huge semi circle booth. It was very cool! Here's some of the disorganized problems we encountered. Our drinks were served in mason jars, no straws. We had to ask. My friends food came with no cutlery. They said they'd bring it and apologized. Her food including ice cream, sat there a good 7 minutes before she decided to get the cutlery herself. Also, to tell the staff that she had her food and I didn't. So after those 7 or so minutes, I still had to wait for another 5 or so minutes for my food. The waiter asked how my food was, and proceeded to tell me that the option I chose was not a good one and if he were me, I should have ordered a different croffle. (This is something he probably should have mentioned when I was ordering.) In the end, I enjoyed my food and the look of the place. Hopefully with time, these small things will improve.
