After spending several hours learning about the southern part of The Glebe with my friend after getting a similar tour four years earlier (yeah, I'm on Olympic time, folks), I felt like a cold drink. I remembered that Mr Puffs has iced teas that I like, so I walked over to this store. It was busy. There was an entire family ordering what looked like three packs of 30 puffs and a bunch of ice cream dishes. Naturally, I knew that my thirst would not be quenched quickly. I am patient. Perhaps too patient for my own good. I stood there waiting for someone to take my order for five minutes. There were two male staffers handling both the puffs and drinks. They were definitely short on staff for the demand. One of them was nice and came over to take my order. I got an iced peach black tea. I like that it's only one size and that it has a hint of sugar. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and my transaction was done. I then waited for my drink. The wait was at least ten minutes. Frankly, I lost track. The family ordering puffs galore did cause a backlog of orders. I was thrilled when I finally got my drink. I thanked the man and happily left the store. I slowly made my way to Whole Foods while sipping my drink. It hit the spot. It was such a hot day that a cold beverage made things cooler. It tasted consistent when comparing it to the previous drinks that I had at the Dixie location. It's my favourite iced tea drink out of the lot. I was in the area last night, but Mr Puffs was closed by the time I left to head back to the hotel. Maybe it was a good omen to not down a box of puffs so late at night. I had overheard the conversation between the woman behind the counter and a couple about to pay for their treats: "Is it cash only?" the woman asked. "No, that's the Crazy Moose. We accept all cards and cash," the female staffer said. One word: yes! This same female staffer helped me out with my order. I got the following sorbetto flavours in a cup: - Guava - Lychee I paid with a credit card. I also tipped, thankful that I could use plastic to pay. I thanked her and left with my frozen dessert. There were a handful of little tables with chairs inside the store, but they were all taken. Instead, I went out in the hot weather and found outdoor seating. Luckily, there is a rather large tree that provided a lot of shade. There was also a breeze, so I wasn't sweating buckets. I loved my sorbetto. The guava and lychee were reminiscent of having Vitasoy as a kid. I loved these flavours. They were captured perfectly in the sorbetto, which wasn't all that sweet. The sorbetto scoops were refreshing and enjoyable to consume on a hot July afternoon. There were pigeons that looked like they were innocently befriending me. They were actually waiting for me to make a klutzy move. If I had dropped my sorbetto, they'd feast. They never got any of mine. I finished all of it. So good! It was nice to people-watch as I had my sorbetto. If you have the time to stop and enjoy things in ByWard Market, come here for a scoop of yumminess and savour it. It's a great place. So I had to check them out. I am happy to report that their shaved ice is like fluffy snow! I got the Lychee Bliss ($7.99) which is lychee flavoured shaved ice (it's dairy-free) with lychee popping boba and lychee jellies. I enjoyed it. However, I think it would be tastier if it was shaved ice milk. However, I understand that they want to have a product for vegans/dairy-free people. Also I think the dessert would be more photogenic if they added some rainbow jellies or other coloured popping boba as garnish on top. While it was tasty to my mouth, visually it was a bit too monochromatic, lol. Just a suggestion for the business. The toppings are exactly those that are usually found in bubble teas, so the jellies are made of Coco de Nata and the popping boba gelatin is made of seaweed, so totally vegan. Staff were courteous. The guy was working by himself, so the wait was long on a Saturday afternoon. It's a little hut, so everything is to-go. There are a few tables and seats in front of the hut that is shared with the hut next door that sells tacos. I like the compostable paper bowls and compostable wooden spoons. Ottawa's first rolled ice cream shop was another location of Roll'd Up that opened on York St in the Byward Market not only in the middle of the Covid Pandemic, but in the middle of winter! I still haven't made it there, but was so excited to see another location open up in Lansdowne Park. And when it was technically Spring, although didn't really feel like it yet, lol, I went to check it out. So the Lansdowne location just opened the last week of March 2022. They had been open for 1 week when I visited. I got a small Strawberry Cheesecake rolled ice cream ($8.95) and my husband got a small Skor rolled ice cream ($8.95). It's pretty pricey, but I think the price includes the "show" they put on as they make it, lol. So they pour the ingredients onto this frozen metal sheet and they mix it. Then they spread it out real thin. Then they roll it. It's pretty fun to watch. The ice cream also tastes really good. Very rich and creamy. I asked for "a lot of whipped cream" and they certainly delivered, lol. You can see my pictures. My husband's has the regular amount of whipped cream and mine has extra ;) Service was very friendly. You order and pay with the Cashier near the cafe and cakes area, then you take your receipt and let the Ice Cream Roller know what your order was. The ice cream takes a while to prepare, so I can see how the wait would be long if it were busy. They sell coffee and tea, as well as cake slices (I think the cakes are from Dufflet Pastries from Toronto). It's a really cute place to hang out or for a date. So glad I got to try rolled ice cream!! Street parking only (if you can find any), or you can use one of the paid parking lots nearby.
