Apple tart

Love love love this bakery! I'm not a big dessert fan but 3 tarts is wow! Ok let's start with their signature "milk tarts" they are heavenly delicious. They also have little pecan cookies that are DELICIOUS! We tried their lemon poppy seed cake and their cheese cake.. it's good but not wow as their pies and tarts! They are soooooo good, the pie and tart dough is sooo good! Whenever I'm on bank street I make an excuse to pass by!

Stopped in here by fluke today and am so glad I did! The service was really great- staff were friendly and made some great recommendations. We ended up getting a Strawberry Rhubarb Tart and a Chocolate Pecan Cookie. I'll start with the cookie. It was a good size- bigger than my hand, but smaller than my face so I didn't feel bad eating the whole thing. It's consistency was nice, soft and chewy on the inside and a slightly more crisp outside. For me, it was great that it wasn't too sweet. I'm not a fan of overwhelming flavours, so it was a nice subtle treat without being too decadent. For someone with a sweet tooth, though it might be lacking a bit. Even a pinch of sea salt or something to give it a little extra flavour could be cool, but I enjoyed it as is! The tart was good! My favourite part was the crust- it was nice and flaky and had a nice sweetness to it. I'm not much of a tart or pie person (so much so that I can't tell much of the difference between the two) but this crust was enough to make me want seconds! The strawberry rhubarb filling was also quite pleasant. Again, it wasn't over powering or too tart like some can be, but it was nice and refreshing on a summer day. I can't wait to go back and try some more flavours!

I tried out the Fire and Ice tartlet from Three Tarts and it was absolutely delicious! The lemon flavour really popped and I would definitely come back for this treat!

5 stars out of 5 for: - I got lucky and ended up with a pre-birthday Three Tarts pie to share with friends. - Sometimes, you just got to change it up and go for a tart / pie instead of a cake. - Berry tart = a happy bday lady.

The smell of fresh baking when I walked into Three Tarts was amazing. I could barely get to the display case fast enough and when I did I was pleasantly surprised by their prices and impressed by their combinations of flavours. I wanted a sweet treat to keep me going through a night of teaching and a cookie at $1 was perfect (in fact it meant I could get more than one...). If you are a chocoholic like me, try the double chocolate cookie, it is soft, gooey and full of chocolate. More original kinds include chocolate pecan, cranberry hazelnut and cinnamon mocha. Their tarts are perfect for taking to a dinner party and they have amazing combination like blackberry white chocolate...yummm! The only downside is that this is a take out place only: there are no tables to sit at, nor any coffee available.

Coconut cake

Rhubarb bars with a shortcake base and a buttery crumbly topping. One of the many buttery (siggggh) items at Three Tarts. Needs a better web presence though. But then again, maybe they don't since they seem to get cleaned out by the end of every Saturday.

Tried their carrot cake a few times, one of the best carrot cakes that I have had in Ottawa. Quick delivery service as well.

Moo Shu Ice Cream & Kitchen - Vietnamese coffee & brownie ice cream sandwich in packaging

There's also a small public square with some benches outside that will absolutely be useful for busy summer nights. My recommendation is to grab an ice cream sandwich bar from one of the freezers where you line up to order - great textures, fresh flavours, and lots of fun. Easy to split with a loved one! Prices are a bit high, but Moo Shu sources local ingredients (with the names of local farms on the flavour signs!), and pays employees a livable wage. It's a great place to stop by and support, while trying a delicious new flavour. Their new location is absolutely a step up :)

It really pains me to write a partially negative review of a really cool place like Moo Shu Ice…read moreCream & Kitchen, but if a flavor is inedible, that's a pretty big deal. I showed up around 9:00 on a random Tuesday and the place was impressively packed. The line was snaking out the door but it moved quickly. I've always been a huge fan of French Onion Soup, so when I saw a flavor called French Onion Scoop, I obviously had to get it. It's not good. The quality of the ice cream itself is top-notch (i.e. it's super creamy) but the flavor is just kind of gross. Plus there's a lot of sautéed onion in there and I think there's a reason onion and ice cream have never been combined before. I ate some of my cup but wound up throwing most of it away. To paraphrase Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, Moo Shu was so preoccupied with whether or not they could make a French Onion Soup inspired ice cream flavor, they didn't stop to think if they should. (I should note I also tried a couple bites of their DunkaMoo's ice cream sandwich and it was really delicious, so obviously they are capable of making an excellent product.)

Ended up getting the pistachio and Dubai chocolate croissant. As for the drinks, we got the matcha and the Hojicha with espresso shots. They serve coffee from Hatch (which is probably one of my favourite back in Toronto). Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the croissants fresh but they were still tasted buttery and flakey. The flavour and sweetness was the right amount (perfect for my Asian tastebuds). The drinks were also really good! It was pretty busy inside but there's plenty of seating (might not be great if you want to chill and study but great for hanging out with friends). Service was good, staff is friendly and our order was made fairly quickly. I would come back and try other things on their menu if I'm ever around the area.

Plus, their croissants are big in size and are great for sharing. Their place is beautifully decorated with lots of seating. The workers were kind and friendly. We ordered the Croissant au Pistachio Rose and the Dubai Chocolate Croissant. Both had the perfect amount of flakiness and softness. The Dubai Chocolate was decadent while the Pistachio Rose was nutty with a delicate taste of floral.

I was in the mood for a Sfogliatella (lobster tail pastry), so my husband and I went to Little Italy to get one. Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana has been around since 1979, but I had never been there before. They had a large selection of desserts and gelato. We took our pastry to-go, but they have some seating both indoors and on their raised front patio and street-level side patio. The Sfogliatella was $7.49 which is the most I've ever paid for this pastry. Fortunately, it was delicious. Very crispy and flakey on the outside and softer on the inside with a generous amount of cream. I prefer the ricotta cheese filling slightly more, but I like the cream filling too. It was light and airy and not too sweet. Service was efficient and pleasant. The shop has a one way flow, you enter one door and you follow the arrows and exit a different door. The area to wait for service is narrow, so this process prevents congestion and crowding. I like it. Great for the occasional treat, but a bit too spendy for me. (77)
