LaPreferida is a Mexican market with a food truck outside. The ordering process is that you go into the Mexican market and order, they give you a receipt and your number is called at the truck. Pricing is okay, three dollars a taco. If you order less than five they automatically add fifty cents for sauce. I went with three tacos so my total after tax and the salsa surcharge was just over ten dollars. I also thought it was a bit strange that they use paper plates and wrap them in plastic wrap instead of your more traditional takeout container. The tacos themselves were good. This is a good trailer in front of a Hispanic grocery store. Head inside the store and order. The menu inside has accurate prices. This authentic food. They speak English but I would offer the best endorsement for here is all the trades folks eating. Ordered up a chicken, pork and steak taco. The steak was my favorite. Chicken was flavorful and the pork was tasty too. Classic street tacos with cilantro and onions. I love it here! The service is fast and the tacos are always consistently good! Over the years, I've ordered the tacos, tostadas and quesadillas and I can recommend them all with confidence. Very authentic! You order inside and wait around the food truck parked out front. Everything is served on foam plates and wrapped in cellophane, so clearly all the focus is on the food! Passed this place many times but never tried it before. Well you know it's authentic and good before even trying it because there's about 30 brown people outside at the tables either eating or waiting for food at dinner time. This little food truck is MOVING some food out! In the 20 minutes it took from ordering to getting the food, we saw about 15 or more plates of food leave the truck. The line behind us kept growing. I consider myself an authority on authentic mexican cuisine. Truly great mexican food is an art taking a lifetime to master. Here they do a great job out of a catering truck. That may frighten some but no worries, i checked it out and it is A-OK. Today I had three tacos. Lingua, Carnitas, and Barbacoa. All freshly prepare and tasty. Years ago, I ate real Mexican food for the first time when I went on vacation on a cruise in which one of the stops was in Mexico. Not only did I love the food, but it was an experience worth noting because it was different from what I am used to: Tex-Mex. Less cheese, a bit more on the sour side, not so saucy, things like that. It all worked out though because it really brought out the flavors. Since then, I've been looking for a restaurant locally that does its best to create authentic Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. I mean I love Tex-Mex but sometimes, I want something that is simple and delicious without having to be a wide array of flavors which Tex-Mex is. Fortunately, I found La Preferida and I couldn't be more happier. Located at the northeast corner of Aurora Rd. and Croton Rd.intersection, La Preferida is technically a store with a Taco Truck outside. Upon entering, there is a small section dedicated to imported goods mostly those used more by Hispanics. There are some built-in tables and such and what looked like a small kitchen and storage area, but the food was cooked in the taco truck outside. The wait time is longer than that of a typical fast food drive through because they make your food on order. But once you have it, it is worth it. I ordered carne asada and burrito and Roadie got one taco. As mentioned earlier, it was delicious. Overall, this is a great place to go if you want your authentic Mexican food. The prices are decent at less than $10 for most items on the menu and you get a lot of food. Taco's are small in the amount of food you get if you buy one at $3 but I think it was made so you would have to buy three. I would definitely go back here again and get more of what they are offering if I am passing by and craving real Mexican food. read more

It's all a little blue but very delicious. The food is spiced so well and taste great. Service may be a little slow but you can't really put a time frame on quality. The portion's were nice and large! Inside the make fresh pork rinds daily. These are so crunchy! I'm not sure if I have every had anything this loud in my mouth before. I got some tamales, they were hugemungus. My only complaint was how much corn meal was used. I would have loved more filling and less corn. Gringos beware - they charged us extra for salsa for the dozen tacos we ordered. $1.50 for a tiny cup of salsa seems like a bit much, especially since we did not ask for it. I haven't been in Florida for long but I moved here from California and what I miss the most was the street tacos. La Preferida makes me feel closer to home and the enployees are so sweet and professional. My favorite taco ladies work in the food truck and sometimes the best part of my day is saying hello to them. It is also lovely to see a business supporting all of their fellow Mexicans who are hard workers always, and giving a gathering place where everyone can connect and make small talk. The neighborhood is sketchy AF and makes for great people watching. (It's unbelievable how much s*** goes down at gas stations), but after all is said and done, the women make these greasy gorditas in a small truck and from the depths of their heart. The spicy green sauce casually gets passed around table to table as true foodies indulge in the amazing creations. Store is stocked with goodies from mexico, like coke made with real sugar and mango drinks and cookies.
