I had expectations of a decent meal here given the decent Yelp ratings, but I was very underwhelmed with the food here, as were the other people I dined with. The complimentary bread to start off was decent (it's difficult to screw this up). Pizza (2/5) was a major disappointment. It was doughy and almost undercooked, with both sauce and cheese lacking in flavor. The pasta with alfredo sauce (1.5/5) had no flavor and tasted like the sauce came out of a jar you buy at the supermarket. The chicken parmigiana (2/5) also lacked in the flavor department. I expected more from a NJ eatery specializing in Italian food. It may have been an off night in the kitchen as the place was packed with families and teens on a Friday, so La Piazza must have some loyal local customer base. I loved the interior decor (5/5) and the service (4/5) was extremely friendly...the food just wasn't up to par unfortunately, so not a place I'd return to anytime soon. read more

I've eaten from La Piazza on numerous occasions; but this was my first dine in opportunity; usually I order while at work and have my food delivered. This is one of the better restaurants in the area, that I've tried thus far; but today I was somewhat disappointed. I ordered a slice of Pizza to eat in and Shrimp Parmesan over linguini to go. Let's start with the Pizza, to me it was okay; for me this could be Psychological; I say this because I believe the further you get away from NYC, the lower the expectations are for Pizza. This slice lacked the greasiness that I long for. For me Great Pizza is determined by the quality of 3 things, the crust, the sauce & the cheese. The crust gets an A+, the cheese gets a B, while the sauce gets a C. Past experience has brought forth excellent Sicilian style pizza, as well as other varieties, but today's Pizza experience was just okay. My Shrimp Parmesan on the other hand was a disappointment, I felt the linguini was a overcooked & drowned in sauce, while the shrimp was more batter, less shrimp and lacked taste. Will I revisit La Piazza again? Absolutely! Because I know that this visit is not a true reflection of their food as a whole, so for now I then give 3 stars, with hopes that this will be changed in the future. read more

I went in person to place the order and everyone was so helpful and accommodating. I originally planned to order large trays for several items but was told it was too much food for the number of guests I was having. The food at this restaurant is outstanding. They have sauces that will knock your socks off. They had a special that was ravioli stuffed with lobster and shrimp then covered with shrimp and crab meat in vodka sauce that was delicious. There is an extensive menu and on weekends they have specials. My husband always gets the veal Parmesan and is very pleased with it. Their dishes come with a salad or just super choice. I was never greeted, and three men behind the counter made eye contact with me, not one of them attempted to take my order. The food is usually just fine. Looks cool but nothing to get excited about. Last night we ordered 2 shrimp dishes and lasagna. The lasagna was soup (which i didn't know was possible) and the shrimp were wet and mushy. 3 out of 4 of us got sick right after eating. I called La Piazza to let them know, not even to ask for money back, and the man was very insulted that I even suggested that we got sick from their food. He was rude, and I thought it completely uncalled for, to tell me it couldn't have been their food because it wasn't 24 hours later. Two of the people were visiting for the day, and somehow it must be something we all ate the day before, separately, that got us all sick at the same time after eating La Piazza. I really hate to do this, as I'm a former restaurant worker and I know what goes on behind the scenes, but wow this was a bad experience. Server was friendly, but kind of lazy as they straight up asked us if we were ready to order. When we asked if there were specials, then the server named off a few. Okay, that happens. Calamari was subpar. Tasted unseasoned and mushy. Waited a solid 15 minutes from appetizers to salad. This happens if it's busy, but the restaurant only had 4 or 5 tables besides us. Food comes out and here's where it got bad. My dish was ordered rare and came out well. If there's one thing I know about working the grill, it's not easy to screw up rare and well done. The server didn't come back for a solid 10 minutes and then when I told the server it was well, they promised to make it right. 10 minutes later and I finally have my dish, but my family had already finished so I'm sitting there eating alone. Overall, the entire experience took 1.5 hours which is ridiculous for a near empty restaurant. My family and I feel ripped off as there was never an offer to compensate for us waiting so long and me having to eat alone. I certainly hope the restaurant can use this review as constructive criticism because a few simple and small changes could have made this horrendous experience better. However, at this moment, my family and I will not be back and it's a shame since I wanted to make my father's birthday special. read more
