This one star review is for the unethical way Mandy overcharged me. The facial itself was fine. It's no frills, but exactly what one would expect for this price point at an independently owned small business. Mandy was competent, and her products are decent. I didn't love how she tried to sell me a bunch of skincare products I don't need, but I also know that it's how these spas make money. I paid for my facial with a multi-use Spa Finder gift card. For those of you unfamiliar with Spa Finder's multi-use cards, they act like pre-loaded debit cards that you can re-use until the balance of the card is empty. Mandy told me that she was only able to use the gift card funds towards the actual cost of the service, but I would need to tip her separately. That was no problem. The card had a preloaded amount of $125.00, and the facial cost $119.00. That would leave me with a remaining $6.00 balance on the card. I tipped Mandy $25.00 in cash. Since I was tipping her cash, I confirmed with her that she would only be charging my gift card $119 and there would be $6.00 left on the card. She confirmed. Imagine my surprise when I went to check my card balance only to find that she charged the card the full balance amount of $125. So, Mandy scammed me out of $6.00. In return, I will never go back to her spa, I will never refer friends to her, I will file a complaint with Spa Finder, and I've written this review. I'm not sure it'll make a difference for her either way, but I hope that makes those extra dollars she overcharged me worth it. read more

I've been going to Mandy for probably over a year or so for monthly facials. I didn't have any legit skincare concerns when I first started seeing her but I thought now in my late 20s more than ever that I should be doing a monthly facial to "upkeep." I rather tale preventative measures versus having to "repair" my skin if I didn't take care of it. There's been times that I would have a break out due to hormones or vacationing and she would get it riggt back on track. Also my face is very tempermental and will act up due to the weather changing and Mandy will adjust her facials for what my face is like. The real changer is that she started working on my sister and my fiance and they have old acne scars from those hs days and both of them have started showing younger looking skin! This review is for their Brazilian services only. I can't speak for the rest of the services they provide. I came to La Petite Rose because the place I usually went to was booked solid (I tend to procrastinate sometimes) and the situation in the swimsuit area needed to be handled. The woman doing my Brazilian was nice. But also apologetic to a point where it made me uncomfortable. She also told me she would need to leave halfway through my waxing to help a staff member with something. I'd have been more okay with waiting to have an uninterrupted session. Now, I'm fat. Which can throw some aestheticians off if they've never waxed a bigger girl before. The situation isn't horrendous, but you do have to do your waxing differently. Every aesthetician I've had has been completely fine and I've had no issues. This woman used hard wax for the entire procedure. Okay. Any bigger girls out there: don't let this happen. It just doesn't work. I've never had an issue with the mild discomfort/pain that came with a Brazilian, but let me tell you right now that this was the most painful session I've ever had. I've had a combination of hard wax and soft (the kind used with the cloths) before, which had great results. But this waxing left me with wax pieces everywhere, places with random hairs still in, and caused ingrown hairs, something I've never had a problem with. After the longest and most painful Brazilian I've ever experienced, upon leaving, the woman said "I hope it wasn't too bad for you," and gave me an apologetic smile. I wanted to like this place, honestly! I don't even care that it's not one of those higher end-pamper me now- type spas. All I wanted was to get a good and much needed massage. Here's what I got: My friend and I made appointments under the Spa Week special ($50 for a 50 min. massage). She got the relaxation massage so I got the shiatsu. We get there and were told to wait in the upstairs lounge area. I went to use the restroom since the masseuses were not there yet. I came back upstairs to find my friend already in one of the rooms already undressed. Turns out that while I was in the restroom, one of the masseuse told her to get in the room and undress even though she knew my friend was getting a relaxation massage. Problem was that the relaxation massage was to be downstairs (in the room that was heated and set up for the massage). So instead I was brought to the downstairs room and told that the shiatsu massage is actually done while the client is fully dressed (hence no heater was necessary). Ummmm, I've gotten many massages before, but never one where I'm suppose to be dressed. So I had worn a high waisted skirt (I was going to a work reception after) and told that I shouldn't have worn a skirt b/c now she wasn't going to be able to do my legs. Okay... that would have been helpful information to know BEFORE I went in, no?! So okay, I get on the table and she starts the "massage"...ummm, there was NO pressure whatsoever. Seriously - I felt like someone was just softly rubbing my back. NOT what I need to pay $50 for. But then, get this: she gets to my legs and goes, I can't do the shiatsu since you're not wearing pants, but I can do a swedish massage. So I said, okay...and she rubs lotion all over my legs and feet. That's all fine except for when she flipped me over and started massaging my face!! UMMMM - all I could think was, "did she really just rub my feet and is now rubbing my face?!?!" Oh hellllsss noooo. That and I couldn't relax because trains were rumbling through every few minutes. Had a rough day/week/month at work and want to relax? I wouldn't recommend doing so by getting a massage here. read more

Straight up 5 star for my wax experience. I had Brazilian wax at another place before and it was extremely painful. It was a different story at La Petite Rose. My specialist Mandy took the time to do the wax and did not rush. I didn't really feel much pain because she did small strip at a time. She also helped me took out the ingrown hair. Excellent service!!! The spa was really clean and neat. The wax room had a scent of lavender. Overall, the environment was relaxing and comfortable. read more

The swedish massage was relaxing, yet very very light. I know it's not a fix it all massage, but I didn't feel very different after the fact. The facial was nice (I believe it was with the owner). She continuously educated me on skincare as the facial went on, which I really appreciated. Pricing is about $70 for a facial, which isn't out of this world expensive, but isn't cheap either. It was a good facial, and she was very attentive. My skin did feel nice afterwards. I have had better facials before that left me with skin as soft as baby's butt. But I did enjoy her advice, and the atmosphere is very relaxing here. Parking is a biatch. 3.5 stars read more

Spoiler Alert: I've been getting facials and spa treatments for over 20 years. I am obsessed with my skin. I also wrote about beauty for many of those, so it's safe to say that I know of what I speak. Still, it's important for me to keep an open mind because every experience is different. It's customer service + product = experience. This was a good one. I started looking for a new, local place as I am still getting settled into my new 'hood. I went to GROUPON, Bloomspot, LivingSocial, et, al. and became annoyed right away. I don't need botox for $600 over 10 weeks or a month's worth of baby blankets. Still not sold on the aforementioned latest in internet sales bollocks, but I digress. I found La Petite Rose right here on YELP! After reading some of the reviews I realized that either they were from friends and relatives (best spa ever? that's a hard one.) or frenemies from other competition. None of them helped. BUT! when I went to the website www.lapetiterose.com I was happy to find a great way to print a coupon for first-timers, make my reservation and find directions. I was sold and willing to take a chance. I was THRILLED to find a great esthetician in Michelle Yorn, who knew exactly what I needed, explained what was going on with my face, gave a wonderful facial, paraffin wax and neck rub, and suggested product without shoving them down my throat. I got out of there with a great moisturizer (Pevona Botanica-$44) and a 90-minute treatment for under $120. (The one-time coupon was worth $20 and printable from home.) No, it's not the BEST spa in the world. Heck, the BEST are places in France and cost $2500 for a day in a hot spring where fairies tickle your ears with feathers and cabana boys serve you nectar of pomegranate in golden goblets. BUT, for my purposes, it was clean, warm, comfortable and most importantly, a success. My skin feels great, and I would go back any day of the week. BRAVA! read more

It was Spa Week, so a girlfriend booked 2 reservations @noon on a lovely Sunday! You can't beat $50 for a 50-minute massage. Location: in the avenues, short distance from the beach and lots of local restaurants. Service: very friendly & accomodating. When I called to let them know my girlfriend was running late, they were willing to see her late (without comprimising the length of her 50 minute massage) or rescheduling AND still honoring the discounted rate. Nice! Facility: simple, cute, and clean. Massage rooms took place on 2 levels. Upstairs was the waiting room that was equipped w/ skin care goods (ie face creams, lotions, etc.) and hot water with an assortment of teas. Overall, cute place (not fancy). THE massage: maribel (not sure on spelling) did the job, and did it well. My 50-minute massage felt AWESOME!!! I loved every minute of it. She was very gentle and a few times I think I even fell asleep. Normally I am in the mood for a deep tissue massage, especially when I do long training runs, but this time I needed a "Relaxation" massage. When the massage was over, I was in good spirits, felt like I woke up from a nice dream. I think that's how all massages should be! Overall: La Petite is a nice place to get a Relaxation massage. I recently moved to SF and was in search for a new B waxer. I couldn't really go off of Yelp's reviews for La Petite Rose since there were no B Wax reviews. I decided to be the first. I really wanted to like this place since Mandy was really nice and the price was okay but I'm assuming Brazilian waxes are not La Petite's forte. My experience wasn't the best. First off, the room I was led into was really dim. It looked like the room was prepped for a massage or facial. I was told to undress from the bottom down and make myself comfortable on the table that was laid out, typical. As I was making my way to the table I noticed the table was covered with a plastic tarp like material and there was no towel for me to put over myself while I was waiting. Mandy comes in and turns on this magnifying light thingamabob and puts it over my you know what. I felt a little weirded out by it. Maybe if the room weren't so dim she wouldn't have to use the magnifying light?! Self hardening wax was used which was fine I guess. But we all know how painful Brazilians can be and each time the wax would get hard Mandy would sort of pick at it to get a grip, OUCH! I also wasn't positioned in ways where it wouldn't be as painful, (B wax frequenters know what I mean). So I was in hell for 45 minutes, yes ladies that's right, 45 MINUTES. I guess according to Mandy hard wax is used only in small strips and it's the reason it takes longer? Who in their right mind would want to sit through getting their privates waxed for almost an hour? I would hardly call that therapeutic. Afterwards I didn't know if Mandy was going to leave the room so I could dress or stay in the room while I dressed or give me a towel to put over my unmentionables. I just wanted to get out of there, so as I was making my way to my clothes she up and opens the door as I'm walking half naked toward my jeans. Luckily I was wearing a long tunic that covered everything. All in all this isn't the best place to get a Brazilian Wax. I'll probably make the trek and stick to my old waxer in San Mateo. read more

This review is for the Brazilian only. Simple decor, clean rooms and relaxing atmosphere. The esthetician, Nancy, is friendly and thorough with the process to make sure you're comfortable. She walks you through it if it's your first time and if it's not, offers advice to help with redness, bumps or ingrowns. Hard blue wax is used here instead of the honey pot with the strips which I think is better since the strips can be more painful. You also get a free glove to exfoliate heyyy. The only thing I would say is that the waxing took alot longer than my usual person, but that may be because it was my first time here and she was just being thorough, which I definetly appreciate. read more

Decent facial, weird aesthetician. OK, maybe she wasn't that weird, but I didn't have the usual aaaaaah feeling I usually do after getting a facial. Yeah, it was probably me, since I was wound up after taking a several hour exam. The actual facial was fine, many steps, masks, steaming, extractions, yadda, yadda, yadda. My issue was with the chick that did it. I had read about her heavy breathing in someone else's review, and unfortunately, she's still huffing and puffing away. Then she proceeded to mash my face with her doughy hands in an attempt to give me a facial massage. The torture proceeded with the head and neck massage, during which I thought she was trying to choke me. Perhaps I'm exaggerating, but at the time, I almost got up and ran out the room screaming, I was so uncomfortable. So, definitely not my ideal post-exam stress reliever. But, she gets the 2 stars for decent quality, and the discount for being a first-time customer. read more

I have been coming to La Petit Rose for about a year probably more and am always satisfied. I see Maribel for facials and love her expertise on my skin type. I have acne prone skin and she has put me on a acne regimen that has definately helped. I get massages from Nicole and she does me nice and hard.. just like I like it... ok not hard all the time but great pressure! Mandy is the owner and is always professional. Offering incentives and discounts when available via FB and email. I even got a $25 off for a thank you for referring a friend! Everyone is very knowledgeable and I love that Maribel and Nicole chat it up with me about stuffs during our sessions. Parking isnt really an issue even though I live in SOMA and some days- Im rushing to get to the appt. on time but I always find parking. Then again I schedule my appts. for the latest 6pm or on the weekends and it is just fine. read more

My roomies and I came here for some spaweek pampering. We each got a purifying facial and a massage. When we first arrived, Mandy and her husband greeted us and even offered to feed the meter after our first hour expired. They are a great friendly couple! I started with a facial with Mandy. This was the second time I've ever gotten a facial. The first time was before senior prom...lol. She is so personable and easy to talk to. My roomie in the other room said she actually heard me laughing several times! Mandy worked her magic on my face and yeah the extractions hurt, but my skin felt so clean and smooth after. I definitely had some red splotches that night, but it went away the next morning. Next, I had a full body massage with Erin? She's this tiny girl who can give a killer massage. I told her from the get go that I like really hard massages, and I think she was still testing it out b/c it was medium firm in the beginning. When she got to my shoulders, I asked for more pressure and she gave it to me sooo goood. I'm tender today, but man it felt amazing to get the sh*t beat out of those knots and tight muscles. I hate what excel and powerpoint have done to my shoulders and neck. All in all, great experience and great deal. I've seen La Petite Rose practically every day on my way to MUNI but only recently had a chance to be graced by La Petite Rose's presence through the a Travel Zoo special. I came in for a facial and massage and LOVED both services. Okay I'll admit, I'm a spa whore and I'm proud of it but given the busy schedule that I've been holding down for the past 8 years, I hadn't had much chance to indulge. The 2 1/2 hours of heavenly bliss was exactly what I needed. Mandy is the owner and she did my facial and I was glowing after. I have very sensitive skin and am always hesitant when going for facials as I lay there waiting for the "burn" from some of the treatment or whatever else goes on your face, but there was absolutely no burn and my skin appeared brighter and deeply moisturized. Mandy took the time to understand my skin's needs and gave me tips of what I needed to do to ensure that I had SPF in the makeup that I used. She has a very sweet and calming personality and right from the get go, you feel completely at home and already relaxed. Niccole did my massage and she really hit the spots. I told her the areas that were achy and she gave me the option of either a full body massage or targetted areas that I wanted worked on. Now who doesn't like to make their own choices? She checked on me throughout the massage to make sure the pressure was right and when I dozed, she let me be. I walked out of there feeling like a new woman and knowing that this little gem of a place would be a new favorite place of mine to visit. read more

This place is really cute inside, they decorated well. I was a bit thrown off by the location of this place, it's off of 19th avenue up-aways a bit and it's nestled between a large neighborhood of homes and there you have la petite rose. I also took advantage of the spa week $50 dollar 50 minute massage deal. It was my first time getting a professional massage so I didn't quite know what to expect and might I say it was way better than at home massages, haha. It was veryyy relaxing besides the fact that half way through my quiet massage I hear a loud banging drilling noise for 10 minutes on and off. The masseuse didn't know what the noise was either but I'm guessing it's either someone vacuuming at the house next door or the laundromat, that was a bit of a buzz kill--I was trying not to fall asleep during the massage and that definitely did the job. I'll probably get another professional massage sometime in my future, but I don't know if I'll trek all the way to sf just to come here. read more

I tried La Petite Rose for the first time because a friend and I bought a voucher for a facial and massage deal from Travelzoo. It had been way too long since I had a facial treatment and I am very happy to have discovered this spa because now I will hopefully get them more often. Mandy's "essential facial" was excellent and she provided recommendations for skin care and products without being pushy about it. The massage from Maribel was very good--she enhanced the basic "relaxation massage" by adding some deep tissue/sports work on my chronic shoulder/neck knots. I was very happy with the results and the "glow" from the facial and a relaxing few hours at the spa. I used to have amazing skin, then as time went on my skin decided to flip a switch on me. Bye bye good complexion. I was so upset about this and I honestly thought I'd never be able to get anywhere close to where my skin was back then. Luckily for me, a friend recommended me to La Petite Rose. I was a nonbeliever when it came to facials. I believed you shouldn't let other people touch your face. But as awkward as this may sound, Mandy can touch my face whenever she wants. My skin has drastically improved over the three times I went there (Which reminds me, I need to schedule another appointment soon!). Came here with the roommates for SpaWeek and was very satisfied with the overall experience. The facilities and the service were good and definitely not pretentious -- it had a definite small business type of feel, but not in a bad way. Also, the owner (Mindy) and her boyfriend were delightful and extremely nice. My massage was relaxing and awesome for the price ($50 for the 50-minute relaxation massage). At first I wasn't sure how it would turn out as my masseuse was tiny! But, she actually did a great job not only in the amount of pressure she applied but also in being very vocal to make sure she was applying the right amount of pressure and was spending enough time with the right problem areas. Her effort to make sure I was getting the service I wanted was definitely appreciated - thanks! I also got the 50-minute rehydration facial (also for $50). I never had a facial before, so I can't really compare, but it was relaxing and I definitely appreciated the head and neck massage that accompanied it. I did have to re-pop one small pimple the next day and my face was a little red for the 24 hours post, but I think that's typical? I had a massage and facial with Maribel and it was really good. I loved the relaxing atmosphere of La Petite Rose - really soothing and peaceful! One of the things I liked was that they didn't do the whole sales pitch thing and try to pressure me into buying products, like some spas do. Some aestheticians also tell you how terrible your skin is, even for people like me with clear complexions and problem-free skin, so that you feel like you come back for more facials, but Maribel didn't do that. Not only is the facial relaxing and leaves your skin glowing and beautiful scented, but Mandy is such a wonderful person if you (like me) like to hold a conversation during the uncomfortable "extractions" part a facial. This is the perfect spa if you are looking for a real, effective facial, and don't want to pay Pac Heights type prices but don't want a facial at your average $8 nail salon either. The place is really clean, quiet, and my facial was quite relaxing. My skin looked and felt wonderful for days afterwards. The beds are very nice and heated, and they put a red down comfortor over you to keep warm. All in all a great experience, and this is coming from someone who has more experience with super expensive, high-end spas. read more

Overall I had a nice relaxing visit once I got here. I bought a groupon for this place (massage and facial)- b/c thats become the way I find go tos in the city. This is totally my fault but I misjudged the location and just saw that it was on 25th ave. I figured i could go after work one day from UCSF. Well it turns out its in west portal which took me 35 mins to get to from UCSF on public transport. So I was a bit rushed getting there which I think subtracted a little from my experience- but again- that was totally my fault. The service was friendly once I arrived and since I was a bit late they skipped the paperwork and I just told Maribel what I would have filled out anyways. So good customer service with that. The massage was nice but I have definitely had better massages. I think it often comes down to the technique and this one just didn't do as much for me. I also think it didn't help that I felt like I was being judged a little for not getting regular massages. I explained when I got there that I've been working a lot of overnights in the ED. When Maribel got to my shoulders she said in almost an accusatory (at least in that moment thats how it felt)- "whens the last time you got a massage?"- I responded with 3 months ago b/c my schedules been crazy. To which she responded with I really need to do this more often. I agree- time permitting. Anyhow, afterward we moved onto the facial - which was fine. I don't get a lot of facials so I don't know where in the realm of good vs bad this one was. Overall I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. I will most likely not return here b/c their regular prices I think are a little high for the location and the quality of service. But if you live near by I would give it a try read more

Just to caveat, I want to give this place a 3 1/2 stars but it wasn't an option. Overall, I don't have major complaints but just underwhelmed by the visit. This place seemed promising when I walked in. The spa itself was quaint, comfortable, bright and airy. I only had to wait a few minutes for my massage. Kristin asked for trouble spots but I didn't realize she was going to spend the entire 45 mins on the trouble spots only. Kristin gave a pretty good massage with just the right pressure. However, after the massage, I wasn't sure what to do about the second half of my visit (facial.) So, I ended up putting on my clothes and going back to the sitting room. My therapist was about 10-15 mins wait; no big deal, but no one informed me nor did I know when to expect the therapist. My therapist (Maribel) didn't apologize. No big deal, but it would have been a nice acknowledgment. The facial was okay; nothing special. The location and parking weren't bad. Again, overall, a nice place. However, the spa isn't quite as top-notched as the pricing would suggest. read more

I had a 45 minute swedish/sports massage with Nicole which was ok (she did a fine job targeting my problem areas but I've had better), then a 45 minute facial with Maribel which was very good (I recommend her, she gave great advice about my skin and didn't product push me). My main issue was with the place itself. It 's not so relaxing... It's off of Taraval and the walls were pretty thin so I could hear and feel the Muni go by and hear people talking in the lobby. The massage room was cold and the table was not heated. Also, there are no lockers so you have to haul your clothes and shoes from room to room. Also, it took FOREVER to try and book an appointment! I called and left messages 3 different times and even emailed. I got a response like a month later. I didn't try the online booking b/c I had the groupon coupon and didn't want to get charged twice. When I arrived for my appt, the place was locked even with an "open" sign so I waited for a few minutes and as I was pulling my phone out to call, a woman opened the door. *I would only go back for a facial with Maribel.* read more

Combination of paraffin dip, facial and arm massage made me feel so refreshed and relaxed. When I visited La Petite Rose for the second time I tried Plant of the Sea facial and that one was even better!!! Mandy is very delicate, professional and helpful. She gave me a bunch of advice about how to take care of my skin better. I started taking care of my skin the way she suggested and I started using some of the products that she recommended and I can see a huge difference in the way my skin feels and looks. With all the Yelpers in the world today, I've made it a point to only jump on Yelp & provide a review when a business has gone above & beyond my expectations. Having received deep-tissue massages all over the world for the last 10 years, today I received the most-technically proficient deep-tissue massage from Nicolle Holt at La Petite Rose. I have a full-time desk job & can easily spend 5-7 hrs./day typing. In other words, my neck/shoulders/upper back/hands prove to be the most problematic in terms of muscle tension, and daily. This fact did not phase nor slow down Nicolle for one second. After 90-min of Nicolle's full-force body work, I felt, and am still feeling 6-hrs. later, like a warm, pliable pile of soft butter. Yes. THAT good. Nicolle worked relentlessly to push through exceptionally tense areas, and knew exactly when to let up or push harder without my direction. She also provided & taught me additional stretch techniques that I can do on my own when I'm at work or home. Throw on top of this the $15 discount I received for being a new client, this was, sincerely, the best massage experience I've had to date (so much so that I've already made the next appt.) I purchased a voucher with some birthday money through Travelzoo for a massage and facial at La Petite Rose. *The Positives: -Maribel, who did my massage and facial, was nice and accommodating, professional, and I really appreciated that she didn't try to sell me on products (I hate that. If I want products, I'll ask). -The location itself was easy to find, I found street parking pretty easily about a block away. -The place is nice, cute, smells good, and has an overall relaxing atmosphere. *The Negatives: -I checked the clock before and after each of my services, and both of them were about 10 minutes shorter than what they were supposed to be. Unless they just count my few minutes it takes me to dress/undress? I don't know. -You can hear Muni go by, sometimes every few minutes, and the building even slightly rattles every time it does. -Although Muni isn't something they can help, which I understand, they can help by quieting their own voices. It's a spa. If you work there, I assume you know that the walls are thin, and that your guests are trying to relax. During both my massage and facial, I could hear people talking, laughing loudly, and I could hear an office chair rolling around next to the facial room. Not relaxing at all. *Overall experience: I liked the place. My massage was good, not amazing, although I can't really put my finger on why. I enjoyed my facial more. Maribel explained to me some things I could do to improve my skin, and gave me a free sample. I really appreciated that, as I was kind of interested in the products they use, but didn't ask about them because I don't have much money. I really had trouble deciding whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars. I wanted to give them 4 based on my experience with Maribel, but I just can't get passed the fact that at a massage/facial place, one that is supposed to have a relaxing environment, the employees don't know how to speak quietly or move about the spa quietly while someone is receiving services. If you can get passed the external noises, I totally recommend this place. read more
