Important notes: Disrespectful and lazy staff, dangerous and strict camp, they practically starve…read morethe kids, and no outside contact whatsoever. Year one: I started this camp when I was about 11 years old. I did the weekend long camp. To me, it was fun! This was peak camp chief ouray time until they changed everything and became so much worse... Year two: I did the week long camp. This was when everything went downhill. We got new cabins because we were older and the cabins had holes in the walls and decade-old graffiti. Bugs rotted in every corner and there was nothing we could do about it because of the power-obsessed staff. It seemed like all the joy that the camp had the previous year was drained and it was all "this, that, blah blah blah." I personally am a catholic and I pray before meals, but I completely understand if someone's uncomfortable doing that. However, the WHOLE camp wouldn't be able to eat if one person wouldn't pray. I personally found their praying methods very disrespectful as well. They sang songs instead of traditionally praying. The kids were starving too. Year three- This was my last straw. I was a teenager now, and I decided to give the camp a final try. As you can tell, I am very stubborn. I did challengers and everything was fine for the first few hours...until we packed our stuff into the cabins. The cabins were just a bigger, worse version of the old cabins with still graffiti, but even more inappropriate with curse words and images even adults shouldn't be drawing I selected my bulky bag and the lady practically yelled, "Grab other people's bags too!" I murmured to myself. "I don't even know who the heck half these people are yet." It's safe to say we had a lecture about cursing after that. That night, the staff shamed me about my at-home skincare routine and always yelled for me to "hurry up!" Even if I was sick. (Which happened a lot, wait for it) I came to the conclusion that in order to go to the bathroom, which was a building in the middle of all of the cabins in the forest, I would need to sneak toilet paper into my jacket, because we wern't allowed to use the actual bathroom-house. On the night, one friend had a mental crisis and the counselors would do NOTHING about it, even though they could clearly hear. (I'll tell you about that soon) Remember, this happened in the course of about five hours. The next day, I was counting down the hours and therefore muinites left until camp was over. Me and a group of two other girls were talking. Just, TALKING and the counselor had the audacity to approach us and say "let's stop it with the inappropriate language." We were talking about how expensive lululemon was. Again, they practically starved us when it came to food and the counselors always ate more, claiming that it was "our fault." We got no variety with the food and were told to eat everything. Eating disorders are real, people! When it was night time the next night, we hiked up a mountain for camp out night. However, the dangerous camp takes lightning very seriously so we had to run back to the pavilion, where we slept. I thought we were lucky, because it was more confront that the bunks back at the cabin, and there was a bathroom, with RUNNING WATER! Before I fell asleep, I heard moose and looked up to see a looming, moose-like figure. I heard a coyote as well, and with much outdoor experience, I did not doubt myself. I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to use the bathroom. I walk forward to see a cat-like animal just sitting there in the light, resting. Safe to say I did not go to the bathroom that night. The morning, I woke up, told the counselor what happened, she said I was just "going crazy." And then i threw up. They didn't let me even call my parents or go to the nurse. I threw up a total of 17 times that day and they just blamed it on "altitude sickness." And "homesickness." Even though I never get homesick and I live in higher elevation than the camp. Overall, PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM. (Oh and the counselor yelled at me and my friends for talking in the room, and yelled at me for only using one strap on my OWN backpack for some reason)

My husband and I are both YMCA summer camp alums from Nebraska. It is important to us that our kids experience YMCA overnight camp, and CCO did not disappoint!!!! I missed my little boy so much, but feel so so so good about every minute of his time at CCO! We'll be back next year - and when his little sis is old enough, she'll be there too!

I was so very fortunate and lucky enough to have been able to attended super camp here throughout…read moregrade school, and to this day I tell people that it changed my life!!! It's worth the hike up for your kids to have experiences you won't be able to find anywhere else in the world with life long core memories that build good character. I HIGHLY recommend enrolling your kids here even if it's for one week day camp, or a focus group. I also LOVE that it's been operating for over 70 years by the same family running it today. You won't find anywhere else that has not only a turn key, organized, professional establishment but that's run by heart, soul, love for the outdoors, community, respect for one another, and tradition. It's also a great place to have your wedding or any special event!!

Our kids have been going to camp here for the past few years. It's hands down their favorite part…read moreof the summer. They get to ride horses, mountain board, do archery, swim, hike and more. The owners Lynn and Mike are incredibly easy to work with. All the staff are well trained and very attentive to the children and help stretch their comfort zone in fun challenging activities. This year camp was cancelled due to COVID-19. As an alternative, CMR has been hosting single family activities to ensure social distancing. We took the opportunity to do this and we had a blast. As parents, we really didn't know much about how the kids spent their time on the ranch. Spending time up there made me feel like a kid again. The staff made the whole experience fun and easy. The measures that CMR are taking to reduce exposure to the virus are as good as any place I've seen. They sanitize every piece of equipment and touch point between each family and keep the flushies sparkling. Oh and hundreds of acres to spread out the guests. After several months of quarantine and more to come, CMR's 2020 family program was much needed. It's also worth mentioning that various special needs grants and scholarships will cover the family program.
