The bread is always fresh, and everything is made to order with real care. The staff is wonderful friendly to both locals and folks visiting from out of town and the steady lines just prove how popular the place is. While you're there, take a moment to check out the local artwork and stickers. There are some surprisingly interesting pieces. It can get a little noisy when the blender kicks on, but the back section stays nice and quiet. If I really enjoy the cup of coffee I'm drinking, I'll pop next door and buy the beans. I contracted with them to serve during the entire reception time (4 hours) for 200 people. We did not hire for a dinner, but for hors d'oeuvre to be served to our wedding guests for the complete duration of the reception party after the ceremony. I heard from guests who were caterers in another city that there was not enough food for even 100 people on the serving tables. All of the food was gone before the wedding party finished photographs and first dances, so within the first hour of the reception, all of the food was gone. Guests reported to me that they witnessed Janet throwing away full trays of food into the garbage early in the evening. Food I paid for, thrown away before the end of the reception! There was supposed to be a going-away box for the bride and groom, but there was not. We were promised a gift card to the bride and groom to make up for it, but they never received it. We had to give them money to run through a fast-food place to get food after their reception. Neither the bride or groom got one taste of the foods they picked out for their reception. The bride and groom only got water to drink during their reception (except for their toast of Champaign). Water was supposed to be served and available to our guests in addition to tea and lemonade. But there was none. When guests asked for water because all of the tea and lemonade were gone, Janet was very rude to them and refused to serve them any water, including the water requested for the bride. Guests also reported to me that they heard angry loud voices coming from the kitchen belonging to Janet and her assistant. Sugar South was the worst part of my daughter's wedding. It has left horrible memories that mar the beautiful memories we should all have of our children's wedding. Even now, 8 months after my daughter's wedding, whenever someone talks to me about my daughter's beautiful wedding, they mention how horrible the catering and caterer were. I hear more and more stories from my guests of how awful the catering was. When I called Sugar South to express my grievances and request a refund, Janet hung up on me in mid sentence and refused to answer any of my subsequent calls. Stay away from these people!! They did not fulfill their contract; they are not friendly; they do not want to serve others; they will run away with your money; and hide from you when you express your disappointments in their food and "service."

They also have savoury scones which are fantastic. Their sweet offerings, both in bagels and pastries, shouldn't be missed either. The service is on par with the excellent food, and you can really tell that they love their job and their customers. There's always a smile behind the counter, even at the crazy busiest time, and the owners are often outside greeting people and getting to know their customers. The store gets the job done, but it's not as cozy as you might expect or want for the best bakery in Aiken. If they could make it a warmer feel with big plush armchairs I'm not sure I'd ever leave.

Is this place open at 7? I have been coming every morning at around 7:30 and there has not been any pastries out. I started coming in at 8 and I run into the same problem. The young gentleman at the counter profusely apologized and was very sorrowful, I do understand that it is not his fault but I do think this should be a problem that is addressed and fixed or maybe open later on to ensure pastries. I ended up waiting in my car for about 30 minutes and when i came back in they finally had some out! They were delicious!! read more

All the recent rewiew about the poor quality of the pastries lately are true. Due to Covid we could not get the product from our original supplier and the substitution one was not the best... Having a guarantee tip on a party of 5 is ridiculous. A party of 5 is an average party size and family size. I know they usually tack the guaranteed tip on like a party of 8 which is usually when you have to join tables, but I have NEVER seen it on a party of 5, especially not 20% maybe 15%. I have seen it when a bill gets to like $200 they tack it on but not under $120 that's stupid. The manager claimed my server just started and didn't know to change the count with kids, I call BS because my wife and I have eaten there on a date a few months prior and she was actually our server then also. So she has been there a minute and she new what she was doing, also she never asked ages to confirm anything as well, so she new EXACTLY what she was doing, and my only hard question is how many people she has done that too. She just got caught this time that's all. Won't ever eat there again, which is sad because I liked that place and was one of my favorites.

I noticed online that you can make a reservation for a $20 fee that gets deducted from your check. At first I was a little surprised, but after seeing how busy this place is, it makes total sense. We decided to roll the dice without a reservation anyway. When we arrived on a Saturday morning there were already several people waiting outside. There isn't really an indoor waiting area, so the hospitable hostess took my name and phone number and kindly asked us to wait outside. Later I noticed the sign explaining the process. She quoted us a 40-minute wait, but thankfully we were seated in about half that time. Inside, the restaurant is quaint and cozy with a classic diner feel complete with counter seating and booths. The ambiance is casual and welcoming. If you have a larger party, there are a couple of outdoor tables that appear to accommodate around six people, but personally I think this spot is best enjoyed with a smaller group. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and kept everything moving smoothly despite the busy brunch crowd. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles while I went with the Garden City breakfast bowl loaded with veggies and home fries plus a salmon croquette on the side. Every single thing tasted homemade and full of flavor. This is what Southern comfort food is supposed to taste like. My husband said the chicken was seasoned well and fried perfectly, and the waffle paired with it beautifully. My breakfast bowl reminded me of the kind of breakfast my grandma used to make, comforting, flavorful, and cooked with care. Portion sizes were just right, enough to leave satisfied without feeling miserable afterward. Prices were also very reasonable for the quality of food and service we received. Stellar customer service, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere. If I ever find myself back in Augusta, this will absolutely be one of my repeat stops.
