Having moved here from an area populated with authentic Mexican food, we were excited to find this local Mexican food and drinks place. The food was very good and way better than expected in terms of authenticity. We tried all the following: Shredded chicken - really good flavor Carnitas - really good flavor, slightly salty for me but really good Fajita chicken - good flavor Fajita steak - good flavor a little chewy Rice - soft fluffy and not mushy Beans - sold smashed pintos Chips - fresh warm and crunchy Salsa- very good, idk if it's made in house or pre bought but either way very good. Sadly the drinks were not it. The one ordered from the specialty menu was one of the worst margaritas I've ever had. It tasted like cheap tequila mixed with water. The margaritas from the regular menu were just okay. Maybe(hopefully) it was just an off night. The server did seem a little off and a bit unwelcoming but maybe they were just having a rough day. The barrel looking chairs they have at some of the tables were cool. We have consistently supported and frequented LaNop Richmond Hill for several years. Best Ever Margaritas by the Pitcher!! However the music level is far TOOOO LOUD!!! When we travel north we spend the night in Richmond Hill and have enjoyed the food at La Nopalera on two occasions. We sit at the bar. The margaritas are cold and tasty. We enjoy the tacos, especially the grilled shrimp. The staff is friendly and professional. It is quick and easy and I am sure that we will visit again soon. I Don't understand the problem people have with this place. We come in, tired, and hungry after a 7 hour car ride. It's packed, they make us wait about 5 minutes. Once we get seated, chips and salsa are amazing. food is excellent, everything coming out within 30 minutes. Even while being packed, they still exceeded expectations. The molajete is the bomb. It's like beef fajitas but in a bowl with cheese mixed in. I admittedly am not the biggest Mexican food fan (my family is). My go-to place for authentic Mexican food. I've lived all over the southwest and was raised on hispanic food and this restaurant helps keep my need for authenticity satisfied. The service is always timely and generally friendly. I've gone here probably 10 times in the last year and it's never disappointed. The salsa was good and had a little kick to it. The chips need to be seasoned with s little salt. Was not a fan of the tamale. It had ground beef and beans in it. Great Mexican, from a mom and pop feel... Our first night visiting with my second oldest son and his wife brought us here to this favorite of theirs. Just minutes from their new home, I already liked the place for their mom and pop look-and-feel. It was a busy Tuesday night and even so, we were sat down quickly. Service was super efficient, friendly, if not overly chatty. The meals all consisted of enchiladas, burritos, and some chuletas, all of which everyone liked very much. No desserts on this evening, but we ate so much because the portions were really big, no one was missing out anyway. Order was taken in good time but I guess you are only allowed 20 chips. Server never came back with more or even asked us if we needed anything. Felt very uncomfortable in the booth since it was hard to get out all crammed in there. Taquitos were very good,my wife's taco was dry as a bone. Why is a side order of rice 4.99. That's hwy robbery. 11.99 for a combo is extremely expensive for Mexican food especially without beans or rice. If you want an authentic Mexican meal, without having to deal with crowds of people getting in your way on a Friday evening, come check out La Nopalera! The price is very fair for the amount of food you can expect to get. I am a huge fan of restaurants that allow me to make two, if not three, meals out of one dish. I also try not to stuff myself when I go out, otherwise every meal I eat would result in a food coma. I would never get anything done. Let's talk about the tacos. Three tacos of your choice (and yes, you can mix and match), plus either rice, refried beans, or a combination of both, for ten bucks. You can expect to get fresh tasting tacos on corn tortillas, topped with onions and cilantro. I selected three carne tacos, but they also have al pastor, pollo and two more options. I took that taco, topped it with some salsa leftover from the table chips and salsa, and added a spoonful of refried beans. I am salivating just thinking about that meal! Another member of my dinner party also ordered the tacos and was just as pleased. Both of us had at least one taco and some rice and beans left over for a subsequent meal. The third member of my party had the Fajitas Parmesanas. Please do yourself a favor and try that! Or tell someone in your group to give it a shot. Steak (or chicken) grilled with onions topped with creamy mushroom sauce, served with rice or beans or both, plus lettuce, guac, sour cream and a tomato. Plus of course you'll get the tortillas on the side. That mushroom sauce will also include mushroom pieces. For $12 that is a true steal of a deal! I know what you're thinking...I'm making that dish sound tasty and am throwing out a heck of a recommendation, but you expect to be disappointed by the lack of meat you'll actually get. Absolutely not! Your fajita skillet will be packed with so much meat and a fair share of mushroom sauce. You will not regret your decision and you too will have enough to take home for lunch the following day. There are a couple of other Mexican restaurants I'd love to check out before I make a promise to myself to come back, but I surely will not forget this meal. To top it off, they had a great choice of music playing the whole time, but unfortunately they do not have dancing here. I think management needs to reconsider that! read more
