    Tres Shrimp Tacos

This town has so many typical 3-star Mexican restaurant every couple of shopping centers. OK food. Pretty good service. Cute decorations and clean. More on the affordable side than frou-frou fancy. A perfectly good choice, considering the kids' preferences and taste in food. There are a couple of stand-outs in town. Better all around. But the prices and lines might keep us away, when we're really looking for quick and easy. So this is my local Mexican restaurant, where we've been going for years. Quick, easy, and convenient. The waiters always recognize us, they provide that extra bit of effort, and they sing for our kids' birthdays, Very typical menu and very standard quality food, like all the other 3-star joints. But that extra effort, for us, elevates them to a 4.

I love La Nopalera, but I know that not every location is the same. While I love the one at River City Marketplace, this location was very different. In comparison: - Fewer options (especially seafood) - Food quality - Service, while pleasant, was not as efficient - Cool and clean interior - Outside dining for ambiance This is Mexican food and the dishes are plentiful, so if you are hungry don't be shy. But the food: Salsa - perfect consistency, good with a strong kick Chips - seemed to be homemade, but nothing special Queso - meh, nothing special Burritto - big portion, covered in queso Carne Asada - best dish of the night, really good glavor Shrimp Fajita Nachos - shrimp were perfectly cooked, but the rest of the dish was just okay. Parking is sort of tight, so you may have a short walk. Servers were very nice and fun, just wish the food was better.

We had a great experience at La Nopalera. Out waitress Christina was great. She was very funny and personable. We each ordered a Margarita and offered for us to get a pitcher since it would be cheaper. We got regular Queso and queso with chorizo as an appetizer. The carnitas entire was HUGE. The meat was delicious and falling apart it was so tender. It also came with a fresh pico salsa. The steak fajitas were cooked perfectly and had great flavor.

I don't understand the current overall 2-star rating. It's not the best Mexican food we've ever had, but certainly not the worst. It is more than ample. Considering we went on a busy Friday night...it was a good experience. I must say, I like to go places that get low ratings sometimes just to see it for myself and try it out. I am so glad I/we did. This is Tex-Mex! For Tex-Mex food it's pretty good. Just for sitting down you get chips & salsa. That is where our experience begins. If you have good salsa...then hey...you must be alright! We like spicy, but when you are serving the populous like a restaurant does you need to tone it down and have a flavorful salsa that everyone can enjoy...I believe they have tackled that pretty good. And they bring you a big bowl! Which comes in handy because I practically inhale the salsa and the chips are just a vessel to get the salsa into my face! Speaking of the chips...they come warm...so be sure to add a little salt and BAM! Magic is about to happen in your mouth with the chip & salsa combo! The food is pretty good. The white cheese sauce they put on the food is delicious. I will say that we all thought the rice was a tad boring. As for the rest of the meal...it was good. As for drinks, if you order a large beer here you better plan on staying awhile because that thing is huge! The service was pretty good. Again, we went on a busy Friday night and our waiter was running around like a chicken with his head cut off since it was so busy. It took a while for our order to be taken, but understandable since it was busy. That said, we expected to wait for our food and we did, but not nearly as long as I thought it would be. On that note, I was impressed that it didn't take that long. Seriously, the place was packed! My husband did want another beer and we were never asked if we wanted anything else. I'm sure it was an oversight with the crowd. I do hope to go back on a different day of the week to try it out as well again to see if there is a difference. My personal major malfunction is that I am a self-proclaimed Tex-Mex & Mexican food snob since I lived in TX & NM for several years and traveled numerous times to Mexico. Some say it's just "rice & beans"! That may be true, but it's the flavor, the seasoning, the texture, etc. This place does alright and I/we will be back. Sometimes something as simple as the water being different makes a difference in the taste and this is something that just can't be helped since it's different everywhere you go. In short, it's good food and an average Mexican food restaurant. Note: I like to post when a place has a government and/or uniformed discount and this restaurant does! Thank you for that La Nopalera!

We've been ordering out from this location since the San Jose location closed (our fav) and the food is decent but we finally went in for lunch today and midway through our meal a roach joined us on the napkin dispenser.. needless to say we won't be ordering from here anymore. I've worked in food service and I understand bugs can become a problem but the fact that they're out during the day showed us it must be a big problem.

I swear there is a La Nopalera on every street corner in Jacksonville now! We happened upon this location after coming home from games in the area. We were going to go to the one off San Jose, but this location was closer to where we were, so we decided to give it a shot. This used to be the old Mezcal Mexican Restaurant, so the decor is the same. We were quickly seated and handed menus before the chips and salsa came out. The menu is the same as the other locations, so everyone knew what they wanted to get already. They have the lunch specials on the weekends, so that made it more reasonable for this visit than other visits for dinner. Our food came out quickly, and it tasted great. The only complaint that I have is that the bathroom smelled horrible and really needed a good cleaning and sprucing up.

It's a typical sports bar type of a vibe and I believe they do drink specials while games are on and if a certain team scores, etc. The people are always friendly and nice. We sit at the bar area and we're usually greeted right away. One of our favorite things on the menu was the blackened mahi wrap they removed that on their new menu, but we went in there and we were able to get it ordered because they still have whitefish it might've been grouper, but I didn't care. I find that there is inconsistencies with the kitchen. Sometimes we would get the wrap and it would be perfect other times there was hardly any fish and it was mostly lettuce and others it was lacking the other things such as the salsa and the cheese, etc. They have a great taco happy hour. Everything is 4 to 6 dollars from 4 to 6 PM , and this is again sometimes they're amazing and sometimes they're just so so. Overall, for the pricing and the atmosphere and the location, especially for us is a good go to for us. I just wish they were more consistent with the kitchen. All of their well drinks on happy hour is five dollars so that's a good deal right there. Also, they have side orders of things like onion rings and french fries if you don't wanna do a whole basket of it, which is super helpful if you wanna grab a few tacos and just want a little bit of onion rings

The "Dia De Los Muertes" artwork throughout the restaurant is great to sit and take in, especially if its your first visit. The TVs at the bar keep me entertained as I greedily snack on the tasty chips and salsa while watching whatever sports event is on. I've had quite a few dishes here, but my go-to fave is the Carnitas. Flavorful pulled pork, Spanish rice, refried beans, esquites (Mexican street corn), and warm flour tortillas. Forget eating everything separately...I go all in and scoop everything into that tortilla. SO GOOD. The tang and crunch from the esquites puts it over the top. Add a little squeeze of lime and dig in. The Enchiladas are also a good option when Im in the mood for some cheesy-melty goodness. The red sauce is rich and flavorful, and pairs wonderfully with the tender shreds of meat and that cool hit of the sour cream. Is Cantina Louie "authentic" Mexican food? Dont know, dont care. Quick reality check...this isn't Tijuana. The food is great and I've never had a negative vibe or experience here, with either the food or the staff. Highly recommend if youre in the area.
