I got a taco and a quesadilla since the servings are pretty small (you only get one taco in an order instead of the standard two tortilla thing and the quesadilla entre is still just two small tortillas in top of each other). Both items were excellent! I also got a michelada which was good and tried the margaritas (which they have many varieties of)--also good. For Boston I feel it is quite good Mexican food. As a Los Angeles native, it would not make sense to use southwest US/Mexican tacos as my reference...because I would be disappointed every time. La Neta joined back bay in the past year. It's in a great location on Newbury St. with plenty of outdoor space. The food is okaaaaaay. Night out in Boston with the wife in search for some good Tacos. We found La Neta with decent reviews and being our first time in town why not. Chips and salsa were complementary however chips were stale and the salsa brought out was run down tomato juice. I ordered the Birria Taco and the Queso Birria Taco. Waitress explained that the Birria Taco is with corn tortilla and the queso birria tacos is flour. Birria taco is appears to be a store bought corn tortilla heated up in oil. Meat was dry and had no flavor. The quesa birria was a a fried flour tortilla with same dry meat and cheese. The fried tortilla and cheese gave it a better taste but not impressed. It does come with the Birria sauce on the side but it it lacked flavor. To drink we got a overpriced can of coke. For the night they were very limited on what they had to drink. Wife ordered the Al Pastor taco. Had a bite and had the same corn tortilla that was cold and food lacked flavor. Overall not impressed with the food. Spent $25 for 3 tacos and 2 cokes seems a bit excessive but o well. There is pros! Location is great with and outdoor and indoor atmosphere. As a Mexican who grew up on the US-Mexico border, it's so hard to find authentic and good tacos in the Boston area--but I found that at La Neta! The flour tortillas are some of the best I've had in the area, and I almost cried when I had the cochinita pibil. Walked by this place a couple of times and decided to finally give it a try today. The restaurant offers both heated outdoor and indoor seating. Inside, the atmosphere is great; music, fun decor and friendly staff. We started with some chips and salsa, which also came with some warm refried beans. I find chips and salsa to be like a barometer for mexican/taco restaurants. The chips were made of corn tortillas (the best), nice and fresh, and the homemade salsa was delicious. I am generally not a huge fan of refried beans but these were gone in a few minutes. My friend and I ordered two tacos each. We went with two of the server's recommendation: the Lorenza and the Caramelo, and the chipotle shrimp and the fish tacos. No words. Everything was right, the flavour, the textures, everything. I personally recommend the caramelo and the shrimp taco, but all were wonderful! We were quite hungry but two tacos each was pretty filling, but we still ordered dessert. Both of the birria tacos really needed the broth and I asked for it in the comments, but we didn't get any which it tasted dry and bland. Also, I asked for sour cream which was an additional $1 but didn't get it. The chips with the salsa were good, but again the salsa needed salt.
