I'm ashamed to admit this was my first time having Birria Tacos. I went down the rabbit hole the night before watching videos about tacos like this and decided I need to try them ASAP. I read reviews on Maria's and it was reasonably close to my office so I hit it up for lunch. Admittedly I don't have anything to compare against but they were fantastic. The beef/brisket was flavorful, tender but still kept its bite/chew. The onions, cilantro and cheese seemed in great proportion. I've seen some videos where it looks like there could be more cheese - but I personally think it would've been too heavy and uncalled for - taking away from the overall flavor which was in perfect balance. The tacos were griddled to perfection - leaving the corn tortillas with a perfect crunch exterior which held up to the moistness of the ingredients contained inside. Finally - the dipping sauce was like liquid (red) gold. It had depth, flavor, and just enveloped the tacos when dipping them in. It was $15 for 3 and truthfully I had to push to get them all down (but refused to leave a bite behind). I'd love to try their esquires the next time I'm in, but will need to find someone to split the order of tacos first. Lol The 2 guys working there were friendly and super efficient. There was nothing about this trip that would ever make me hesitate from returning and wanting to work my way through the full menu. read more

A little late to this review but once I was leaving Boston I needed food desperately and the closest Mexican place available was Maria's. This actually might be the most delicious taqueria I've ever tried in Boston and as an international student this place might be better than some other options abroad. I'm genuinely so impressed. They took me back to my home without physically being there. The only negative I could mention are their prices, but what can they do? This global economy sucks. I would recommend, my glaze is valid. read more

I swung by and ordered a chicken bowl to go. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. It's a very casual spot. The meal looked delicious and I was very excited to eat. I thought it lacked flavor and wasn't very authentic. Would I try this restaurant again in a pinch, probably because the food was fresh. I would make sure to ask for salt. Definitely better than fast food options. read more

Birria burrito and corn cheese were very very good. Amazing food at a reasonable price.

SOOOO good! We eat here every time we are in the area. It is a very casual fast-ish food place where you order, pay, and then receive your food. The seating is limited and when it is busy, it is scarce. I love the Birria tacos, some of the best I have had. My kid loves the burritos and refuses to try anything else. We have been coming here for years and can always count on being satisfied. You can easily walk right by this place but don't. A very delicious meal is to be have here every time. read more

We wanted some Birria Tacos, and we found tacos and Birria Quesadillas. We also ordered the chicken Fajita dinner. Everything was delicious. The tacos were corn tortilla and were delicious, but we preferred the flour tortilla quesadillas. It doesn't matter which you choose, both were easily the best Birria we've had. The spicy sauce also wasn't too spicy, but had great smoky flavor with a decent heat. The chicken fajitas rounded out the meal nicely, and were also delicious. read more

Maria's birria tacos are better than 95% of big name restaurants that receive praise for their birria tacos. To be a truely elite birria taco, you need to nail the three crucial categories: Shell Meat Cheese Most places do 1 or 2 of these correct. Maria's nails all three. For all my birria people: Go here. read more

Best rice and bean burrito Ive had in a long while. Super fast service and pretty cheap. You are a fool for not coming here.

Overall average. Not sure what I was expecting out of a fajita dinner plate but it more closely resembled a rice bowl with the lettuce and pico on the side. Also doesn't come with tortilla which I found a bit odd. Flavor lacked a little bit but it wasn't bad. Overall prices were fair. Staff was nice enough and quick to prepare food. Definitely a hole in the wall joint but nice for a quick meal I suppose. read more

The food is 2/5, but i what i wasnt ok with was the service. The guy with the ponytail. Anything that is requested on the side is to be put on the side, it should have also been the same amount that would have been served as if it were not requested on the side. You looking back at the customer as if i did something wrong by asking for it on the side is rude. Your look of confusion or as if i was dumb, was wild. I know what i requested, i wasnt rude and was pleasant, not sure why you thought look back at me annoyed was appropriate. Its as if you were annoyed to do your job. Gladly wont be coming back to an empty restaurant. Ambiance is quiet with plenty of seating... maybe related to the service, who knows. read more

Easily one of the best meals i've had in my life. I got the chipotle chicken quesadilla and my friend got a steak taco and chicken taco. When I tell you that my mouth ascended to heaven, i'm not exaggerating. It's as authentic and fresh as it gets. I would give up my first born child to experience eating that for the first time again. Hell, I downloaded Yelp just to give this review. If you're gonna go anywhere for DELICIOUS Mexican, it should be here or you're doing it wrong. On top of the delectable taste, the employees were friendly and the space is really cute. People definitely lean towards takeout but i recommend eating it right inside while it's hot at the few tables they have. read more

My go to place for burritos , fajitas (I like the shrimp fajita wrap), tacos (all kinds) and nachos (one of the best in the city). I love going to Maria's for a burrito! They are always quick and excel at providing an excellent lunch

Maria's was ok. We walked in to place the order on a hot day and the restaurant wasn't very cool, I'm not sure there was air conditioning. Unfortunately, maybe because of the heat, the restaurant didn't smell very good, which wasn't a great way to start. We got tacos and chips and the food was good. The people taking the orders and making the food were really nice and took the time to package our food special to keep it fresh for our to-go order. Unfortunately, the smell in the restaurant kind of clouded the experience. read more

Delicious! Quick stop in based on great reviews online. I was pleasantly surprised by the vast selection and the freshness of ingredients. Placed my order and less then 5 minutes later my food was ready. Simply fresh and delicious. Did I mention the reasonable the prices? Two chicken taco's in downtown Boston less than $10!! I definitely will be back. read more

This place was across from the hotel I was staying at, so I thought I would try it. The service wasn't the friendliest. Per Yelp photos, the tacos look unappetizing. So I got the Birria tacos, which were solid. It got a nice crunch while the meat was tender and flavorful. A tad oily, though, so it upset my stomach. Also, the place wasn't the cleanest. read more

There are a lot of places I really like but they occasionally disappoint. Maria's has never ever disappointed in over 10 years that I have been a customer. Friendly customer service, the food is delicious and they don't give me a wimpy burrito when I ask for no rice. And their hot sauce is for real. I highly recommend. read more

The birria tacos were delicious. Highly recommend with the sauce as part of the serving. Didn't order the platter so can't speak to the rice and beans. The service was friendly, and the location is small so don't recommend for parties larger than 4. read more

I wish we had taken pictures of our food but since we were in a bit of a rush forgot. My Hubby had the carne asada super burrito and I had the adobada. Both were flavorful and didn't go skimpy on the meat with the asada. With the adobada I'd say it was just right not overloaded but not skimmed either. Service was very quick it didn't take long to receive our order. Complimentary chips were fresh. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely go back this delicious taqueria. Highly recommend. Muchas gracias!! read more

Super quick service and late hours makes Maria's the ideal Mexican food spot in Chinatown. The burritos usually come stuffed, so there's not a big difference between them and the bowls like you'd normally see. The music there is always top notch too! read more

Loved it. We were visiting Boston snd went to Maria's Taqueria the first night. We enjoyed it so much, we went back the next night. Very authentic (we lived in Mexico for ten years). Best tacos I've ever had! We had the chicken, carnitas, and al pastor tacos. They were all delicious! I recommend the chicken--it is exploding with flavor. My partner recommends the carnitas. Seating is very limited (3 tables/10 chairs total), so it is more of a takeout joint. But seriously, the food is worth getting no matter what. read more

Small place with amazing burritos. We stopped here often on our trip to Boston. Definitely recommend.

I typically do not leave reviews on Yelp, but since my experience was exceptionally bad, here goes: I have never had a more severe case of food poisoning in my life than I have from this restaurant. My friend and I were enthusiastic about grabbing dinner from this place, given the positive reviews and reasonable prices--especially in a city with little to no (good) options for Mexican food. So, we place our order for a chipotle chicken bowl and a couple steak tacos, and the service/ambiance was fine! Our food was prepared quickly, and the employees were pleasant, but there were a few things that were red flags. First, they gave us plastic straws without any paper covering or gloves... which is fine, I guess. And then they give us plastic silverware, again uncovered, with the mouth-end of the forks touching the open countertop.... odd. To be fair, our meals tasted good, and I think most everyone else in this thread would agree--that their meals tasted good!--however, the morning after was awful. I am not sure what caused our food borne illness, whether it was the chicken or veggies or something else, but seeing that this was the only thing my friend and I had to drink/eat the night before, there is no doubt that it was THIS meal that caused us to get sick. Think: severe stomach pain, nausea (to the point of a fever), and complete loss of appetite. Again, I typically do not leave reviews on Yelp, especially critical ones like this, but I felt compelled to share my experience--at least as a warning. read more

Going to the Wang Theatre for a show and I spotted this place and had to try it. Next door down is a bar that you can get a beer while you wait for order. I ordered a carnitas quesadilla with guac, and a chicken quesadilla with guac. Both are $9 each roughly and $1 more for guac. The quesadillas come with pico, and sour cream. Also there was a nice selection of Jarritos sodas. 2 Tamarinds were my choice. Total was $30 even after tax. I split the order 50/50 with a buddy and shared each quesadilla. They were both great and crispy on the outside and gooey and delicious on the inside. The carnitas was superior in every way but both were great. Served with a fork so you know it can be messy haha. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for a quick bite to eat read more

I did not eat here but yelp is suggesting to write a review so I did. God BlessMaria, her family, her Taqueria and America.

Not much for curb appeal and the inside isn't much better, but I took my salad with steak to go and it was excellent back at my desk. A lot of lettuce but also a lot of steak and beans and pico. I also ordered extra avocado. With the dressing that was included, quite the meal. Flavorful and filling and quite inexpensive. read more

**08/10/2020** Below is a quick explanation of my rating mechanism: 1star: Absolutely horrible and will not come back under any circumstances 2 stars: Way below my initial expectation with very few highlights. Will only come back to order specific courses if my friend strongly insist. 3 stars: Average with some turn-offs. Might give it a second chance to test more dishes out. 4 stars: Meets expectation with a couple highlights. Will come back. 5 stars: Exceeds my expectation by various aspects. Will come back quite often and also recommend the place to my friends. Was a bit craving burrito this morning so did take-out for a quick workday lunch. The shop is just around the corner of the street and can be a bit easy to miss for first-timers. The restaurant offers delivery and take-out only and supports apply pay as a non-contact payment option. Regular Burrito with Steak with Guacamole ($7+$1): RECOMMEND From the appearance, the burrito doesn't seem to be that large but it's certainly fulfilling for a quick lunch. Overall the taste is slightly better than one I can get from Chipotle. I like the consistency of the taste from your first to last bite. I do recommend add guac to it as it really helps bring everything together. I am also glad I have ordered steak as the protein, the steak has been chopped to tiny pieces so I it's not hard to chew at all (where I almost always avoid steak at Chipotle). Overall it's a nice local alternative to Chipotle and I'll visit again to try out the fajita option. My stomach did feel a bit upset in the afternoon, hope it had nothing to do with the lunch but will update the review next time if the same issue happens. read more
