this little place was wonderful, quaint, and cozy
to be honest when i first saw the place i thought it wasn't going to be that good, as the paint was peeling and the it looked a little unkempt. However my opinion changed when i stepped into the place and walked upstairs to the second floor.
The restaurants interior sorta reminded me of a nice place in upper new york state, a countryside home really. The ambiance and lighting, the benches and chairs, it all had that countryside, homely feel to it. I didn't feel like it was too cheesy or playing off some Italian theme, which is good. I don't need to feel like I'm in Italy to know and enjoy that I'm eating Italian food.
The menu wasn't too big or extensive, which is nice, as it doesn't make it a challenge or a chore to choose something I want. They had mini appetizers (it has a name but i forgot) and i ordered the tuscan meatballs, the chicken and duck livers, and the salted cod. All three were delicious and perfectly portioned, and were a great way to start into the dinner. Not too little (like Tapas!!! too little for too much i say) but not too much, it was perfect! The meatballs were made of veal i believe, as they had that veal taste and i highly recommend them. The livers were very good, sort of like a pate, which you had to smear on the biscuit crackers that accompanied it. And the salted cod was delicious because it wasn't too salty or too bland, and had a very good consistency which made it quite enjoyable.
For the appetizer, I had the Razor clams and the grilled Romaine, and both were superb. Really, the clams were honestly one of the reasons i would go back, it was just perfectly cooked and sauteed. The romaine was also quite good too, nothing too special, but it was far from mediocre.
For drinks, i tried the house special the Mora, which was delicious. It has blackberries in it and lemon and honestly you couldnt taste too much of the alcohol. It was sweet but still a little bitter at the end.
For main courses, I had the lobster Fettucelli (which means fresh pasta or something) and it was really good. I got the entree portion and it still wasnt too much or too little. The meal itself is heavy and filling ( finished it all though). They used a good amount of lobster, im guessing maybe around half a lobster (i know they used tail, knuckle and claw meat in there, but it didnt seem like a whole lobster was used. . .)
Also because i went with my parents, they had the special duck entree and the scallops. Both were specials, so i dont know if they'll be available by the time of this review. However, the scallops were incredible, just from the two bites I tried from it. The seasoning was delicious and complemented the scallops texture perfectly.
I didn't try to the duck because I don't like the taste of it, so therefore I didn't want to ruin the already great experience i was having with the place. But from what my dad said, it was also quite excellent, if not a little salty. But thats pushing it.
Oh and the dessert was good too. I got a chocolate mousse and it was incredibly rich, heavy, and terrible for you, but it tasted so good going down it didn't matter.
The service was amazing, our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly (plus we were the only ones there for an hour so he was more than happy to talk to us and entertain us with his knowledge of food and Brooklyn).
Overall because i dont want to make this review longer than it is, this place is EXCELLENT. Really. I went on a sunday and had one of the best meals i've had in awhile in Boston.
