I've seen these shops in Selma and Fresno but I want to clarify: La Michoacana if a popular name for sudden ice cream shops. Not the same though VERY similar. Anyhow, my Son and I finished up our work business day in Selma early, and I suggested this shop though neither of us had been before. Really cool multi-colored decode in the Mexican manner. Bright and cheery. YUGE selection of ice creams and sorbets as well's as paletas (I think)/bars. Also many other Mexican style treats. We hot single scoops each and enjoyed them. I mistakenly ordered the mango. Discovered it was a sorbet/ice instead of ice cream but it was cooling and refreshing with good mango flavor. Son had Walnut ice cream and said it was good. Both scoops together were $7.50. About in line with the 30+ Flavors folks. Some flavors were not familiar to me (will try one of those next time). Only "complaint" was the labels on the glass in front of the buckets were very small. I could make out the Spanish names ( I know a bit of Spanish) but had trouble reading the American English translation underneath. Clean environment including restroom. Cheerful staff. This is a convenient and fun road trip treat stop right off the 99. The first thing we saw was a gummi bears paleta, which we'd never seen at another location, so we had to have one. We also got our usual scoop of chocolate Abuelita, and to my dismay they didn't have the one thing I was craving-- agua fresca de sandia-- so I got the frutas one instead. It was probably a coconut milk base, not water, but it was nice enough. Service was served with a genuine smile. Picked up a couple of gummy candies as well. Went today to get some drinks and paletas. The girls attending were rude but I thought it was due to a full place. During my visit, which lasted approximately 10 minutes, there had been a spill on the floor entirely left unattended nor cleaned. The floor was a danger as people were not noticing and could have easily slipped on it. The girls at the counter ringing up the customers tried to ring up the person behind me ahead of me and I informed her that I had been in line and waiting before that customer to which I got an eye roll and a rude response. The drinks were fine. The place was full. The place is cute but the mess was a worry of how they owners and staff care for their business and customers. read more

La Michoacana is very different from the ones I've been too. I have to say I really loved the decor and layout of the place. The service was efficient and staff was friendly. I loooved their large variety of ice cream and the size of their tostilocos. My favorite item was the Mangoneada with strawberry ice cream. I went in and I asked for extra chocalate and katafi the girl charged me the extras Fee and didn't even but extra if anything she put less the I went again a few days ago and if you want extra katafi and chocolate it's a 5 dollar fee now so instead of 15 your paying almost 22 dollars so overpriced I think they should work on there prices and make sure the strawberries are still good to use read more

I've been visiting La Michoacana for quite some time now, and I have to say, each visit has been an adventure in trying something new. So far, I have not been disappointed with any of the desserts, from rich, unique ice cream, to fresh fruit cups, there's always something tempting to indulge in. However, I must point out one notable downside, the customer service. It seems to be a bit hit or miss. There are days when I'm attended very quickly, and then there are days like today when it feels like time stands still. Was just one person in front of me, I found myself waiting over 15 minutes to place my order, which was frustrating. Despite the inconsistency in service speed, the desert themselves are good. I've enjoyed everything I have tried so far, and that keeps me coming back. Just be prepared for the possibility of a long. wait, you never know when you might find yourself in for a quick visit or a drawnout experience. Overall, if you can manage your expectation regarding the wait times, it's worth the visit I may say. read more

There's always something that goes wrong at this place and tonight really sealed it for me. Sure the girls are friendly and whatnot, but the fact that they're always out of something is so ANNOYING. No corn for an esquite? Get the heck out of here. Not only that, but someone had the audacity to order ten servings of them and then they don't compensate for the rest of the night. Y'all had two more hours before closing and decided to just take out a major menu item? Lame. "Wanna get something else?" If I wanted something else other than the elote I would have gotten it. Sadly, I only had the mango to look forward to now. You'd think it'd be soft, sweet and good right? Nope. Frozen, icy and sour. Made a scrapping sound when I dug in. Horrible. I honestly thought they would get a fresh mango and cut it up for me, but instead they gave me the one that they add to their drinks. No effort to do a good job, just short cuts huh? Forget this place. When they first opened, I like to get the paletas. Went in there the other day. Threw down a bunch of money for their 12-pack and all of the paletas were freezer burned. Was driving through the parking lot when my dad asked for a tamal. I had already sworn this place off, but my dad insisted he needed to eat--he is diabetic. The tamales were ancient, dried out, and had a strange perfumy flavor to them, as though someone had added a dash of Fabuloso to the masa. Inedible. This place is embarrassing. read more

I came here with my mom cause she misses the ice cream she had in Mexico and this is the second closest thing. It's kinda hard to know where your supposed to order but the girls are extremely friendly and are very attendant. The only problem I had was that the chongo ice cream was extremely soft almost melted, which was disappointing but it was still delicious! read more
