Staffed by a family of long-time sewing machine and vacuum experts, they can answer most any question that you can throw at them. They know their appliances. This kindly family is most helpful, too, giving free advice and suggestions, for instance why to stay clear of certain vacuums. Not only will they service your machines, they have a really good assortment of parts and accessories for sale, and even a couple of boxes of odds and ends of vacuum parts, should you be missing a brush or such. I had such a great experience with La Mesa Sew and Vacuum! I brought in my Miele vacuum, which I have had for 15 years but unfortunately had stopped functioning . They were so timely with service and they called me within a few hours to explain exactly what was wrong. (Cat and human hair had gotten in the motor and burned it out) . I was able to pick up the next day about 24 hours after drop off. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering they replaced the motor with a used motor he had on hand--such a relief since this Miele Salsa model are now discontinued. When I picked it up, everyone was so friendly and they took the time to show me how to check the beater bar for debris so I can keep it running smoothly. It's rare these days to get such great customer service! Even though I drove 30 minutes from Chula Vista (since there aren't any vacuum repair shops nearby), it was 100% worth the trip. I'll definitely be coming back here for any future vacuum needs. They mentioned that servicing the vacuum yearly would be a good idea. Highly recommend! Thank you! read more

I took my sewing machine in to be serviced because it seemed like my stitches were gathering my fabric a little bit, so my projects were not looking good. When I got it back, it ran like a dream. I was making straps for a tote bag and as you can see in the picture, the strap on the right was looking really wonky before I had my machine serviced. The strap on the left is the same fabric and thread, and the difference is clear. I waited a little too long to have it serviced because my previous repair person moved away, and I wish I had taken it in sooner. My only complaint is that they told me two days and it actually took a week. It would have been fine if they had just told me a week up front, but instead I was disappointed because I was expecting to use it on the weekend but it wasn't ready when they said. Despite that, I will definitely bring my machine back here for service. They did a great job on my 22 year old machine, and it's still running great thanks to them. read more

This review is long over due but I had an issue with a fairly new Prolux Tritan vacuum that was having a suction disfunction . I wasn't ready to throw in the towel and purchase a new vacuum so I found this establishment. It felt like I walked into a modern day Geppetto's with gadgets and trinkets of all sorts. The man greeted me emphasis greeted and asked my issue and gave me ticket and said he would let me know of the final diagnostics. He reached back within a day I believe and had me pick it up working like new! I am sure it was something simple which he explained and I appreciated his integrity and reasonable prices after all he did save me from purchasing a whole new one. His wife was lovely and I would trust to come back to them with any issues or even for a new purchase. Jerry fixed my Dyson and it works like new! Quickly and very reasonable prices! I also have a 35-year-old Viking sewing machine that stopped working. I didn't think there were shops like this around any more but this must be how life used to be when people cared about each other. We made the mistake of buying another Dyson stick vacuum and after buying a new battery from Dyson themselves, it still didn't work. Enter La Mesa Sew & Vac -- I called to make sure they repaired Dysons and then visited their shop soon after. We spent at least 20 minutes there, checking out all of their offerings and chatting with the wonderful lady who greeted us as soon as we walked in. It's a magical little place like you'd find in a small town somewhere. Sewing machines, vacuums, fabrics, knick-knacks, clothing but most importantly -- kindness and skill. We walked out with a fixed Dyson (a dirty hidden filter that we didn't know about) and a pile of yard-cut fabrics too. When we're ready to buy another vacuum, we will buy from here. I had been bringing my Viking sewing machine to this shop for regular maintenance for at least 25 years. I always thought they did an okay job -- I'm not the professional, so how would I know? I trusted they were doing professional work. This week, I took my machine to a different shop because they could repair it sooner. It was making an odd clunking noise. The shop I took it to specializes in Viking machine repair. At this other shop, they showed me that the presser foot ankle La Mesa Sew & Vac had replaced at some point was the incorrect one: a cheap knockoff. No wonder my presser foot wasn't sitting flat. The handle on the top of the machine was put in backwards, making the machine awkward to carry. Worst of all, the inside of my machine was filthy with old oil clogging the mechanisms and making the clunking noise. I have never oiled the machine, so this had to be the result of La Mesa Sew & Vac's "maintenance." The lesson I have learned: just because someone knows how to repair some sewing machines, they obviously don't know how to repair and maintain them all. Do your homework before choosing someone to fix your machine. Just because someone "services" your machine, it doesn't necessarily mean they know what they are doing. This shop may do fine work on some brands, but it cost me hundreds of dollars to get my Viking back in good working order. read more

AS HONEST AS THEY COME: My wife said the our vacuum wasn't working properly so I took it to La Mesa Sew and Vac. First thing I asked was how much do they charge to look at the vac and give me an estimate of the repair cost. Juki, one of the owners, told me there is no charge for an estimate and while they are fixing it, if it turns out it can't be fixed, there is no charge. So I said, OK. However, while I was talking with him he was looking it over and discovered that our housecleaner must had accidentally pressed this special button which, unbeknownst to her and us, had turned off the motor for the brushes. So, while we thought the vac needed fixing, it just needed a knowledgeable and honest repair person to set us straight. One and done as they say. The Best! read more

We purchased a outstanding used vacuum from La Mesa Sew and Vac. The staff was extremely professional and knowledgeable. The vacuum is a Simplicity. Amazing performance compared to our Dyson. Our carpet looks as good as it did when it was new after using the Simplicity for a few weeks. The Simplicity is made in America without all the cheap plastic of the Dyson. Cleaned one newer dyson, and cleaned/fixed an older one. They charged me an extra $5 on one of them based on how much wife and dog hair was in it. They gave me a gallon ziplock bag of it. Did not fix my machine and I paid $250. I brought it back and they said I just had to play with the tension to get it right. I tried for hours. I asked for the man who fixes them to call me and walk me through it, help me find the right tension. He never called. Finally I took it to another places and they immediately let me know that it was the wrong bobbin case. Easy fix. Could have saved me $250 and hours of struggle and frustration plus the 2 trips out to la Mesa. Horrible experience. I think they might be better with older sewing machines. I have an embroidery machine which they said they could fix but no help and a good chuck spent. read more

So wonderful! What a gem! Took my machine in last year to get it tuned and they were excellent! When I took it out to make masks this year, I jammed the bobbin somehow, and screwed up the tension. I don't know why I waited so long to take it back, because he fixed it in just a couple minutes while I waited. They are so friendly and patient and helpful! Loyal customers return here again and again because there just isn't anyone else with the combined century of experience that the staff here have. I've never brought a vacuum here but I eavesdropped on a phone conversation the repairman was having with a 95 yo client, and she was so cute explaining that her vacuum "just won't get up and go, kind of like me!" and he was so patient with her that I just wanted to hug them both. Be patient with them because they aren't millennials and they are absolutely swamped. I've never seen so many vacuums and sewing machines, and their phone is ringing off the hook. Apparently a few of the other repair shops in San Diego and El Cajon have closed permanently and they are the only ones still operating. Totally amazing. Very kind helpful owners, and honest too. About 4-5 years ago my Pfaff sewing machine stopped working. Over night. While sleeping. As I had used it the night before without issues. The next morning it didn't stitch one stitch anymore. I lived with someone at the time. I never suspected him of foul play. Only much later when I discovered who he was, his sister told me my sewing machine was most likely broken deliberately by her brother (his sister is nothing like him) which totally made sense. But only speculations at the time. Assumptions. A few months later after my machine had stopped working I brought it in for repair in LA. I was told it could not be fixed, while promoting other sewing machines they were selling. I got this machine from my mom, I wasn't in the market for another machine. I still wanted a second opinion. So I kept it around. To get a second opinion took me about 4 years. Which was this store. They fixed it for me, which was totally amazing. I am so happy about that! And to me equally amazing was that it was proven foul play by this person who was living with me. What happened to my machine could only have been done manually by someone. Just wanted to say thanks for fixing my Janome sewing machine . I took my machine to get service at another store and when I got it back it was worse . I really didn't know what to do ? A friend told about La Mesa S&V . I told them that I just had it Service about a month ago at another store and that I still had issues . There Tech found the issues quick and was able to open the machine to check it , the " Sewing machine " was not even service and cleaned right ..... And So I had him service it and I'm Like Wow ... it sews like a DREAM. I thought I was going to have to buy I new one because I didn't want to spend the money on an 8 year old vacuum cleaner. I came to this place after trying all weekend to unscrew my iRobot battery door without success. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted in a very friendly manner and someone immediately attempted to help me open the battery door. After trying with no success the ownner himself troubleshooted for a couple.of minutes and voila, the door was opened and I was able to get the battery out (for free!). Had it not been for him, I would have had to send the iRobot in for repair (without assurance it could be fixed) for a $150 min fee. This place is a family business and is no wonder they have great reviews - their customer service is superb! They are all super nice and super efficient! read more

I called yesterday and explained that I'd broken the needle on my sewing machine, and once I replaced it, the stitches were loose and the machine seemed to be acting up. The nice woman on the phone said I could bring it in for a repair, but that it would be about a week turnaround, but I didn't have any issue with waiting. The next day, as I'm walking toward the door carrying my sewing machine, the employee runs and holds the door open for me! It was totally unnecessary, but still so nice! I tell her the issue and fully expect to just drop it off, but once it was on the counter she started testing the machine and running me through possible quick fixes. Within 10 minutes, she figured out that the bobbin wasn't fully seating on the shelf, made a few other setting adjustments and voila, it was working perfectly again. 10 MINUTES?! Instead, she asked to see the machine and lo and behold, it was an operator's error. The machine was threaded incorrectly. She gave me a free mini lesson and saved me a lot of $$$. It's a rare "mom and pop" kinda place, straight outta Mayberry ( and I treasure it ) ! The friendly fellow took my info and told me he'd call me when he found out what the "funny little noise" my vacuum was starting to make. I have brought 2 of my sewing machines in recently and have been totally pleased with the customer service, and the results of both "tune-ups". I quote that because both machines had not been serviced in the 20 plus years that i have had them, and where in dire need of some love. These machines help support a side business for myself so I need them to work and not be out of service for very long. They had them each for less them 3 days and when i got them back they were in better condition then i could have imagined.
