These folks are amazing! I had serious respiratory problems when my doctor referred me to them. (I had been to respiratory rehab at a local hospital which wasn't very good so I had my doubts.) But La Mesa Rehab was AMAZING! I'm able to function now WITHOUT carting that dang oxygen concentrator around all the time. They are also so friendly, and always challenged me ,and always encouraged me to do better. They really enjoy their work and make La Mesa Rehab a friendly and fun environment. My only complaints are that (1) they are in La Mesa...wish they were closer to my home...but they are worth the drive...and (2) that Medicare requires me to take a few weeks off every so often (but that's not their fault). La Mesa Rehab - Physical Therapy Near Me - La Mesa, California

I was referred to Dr. Peavy by my neurologist for an assessment of Apnea while awake. Since I have a brain stem injury, I thought finding a rehabilitation facility that says they specialize in physical therapy and respiratory therapy--and even Neuro rehabilitation (see YouTube channel)--I was absolutely relieved to get this referral and hopeful I would finally get the help I needed. Sadly, it was all false advertising. When a medical assistant is assigned to help someone with a brain injury who has a history of seizures alone and yells "Help" 3 times to colleagues because her parents is having a focal brainstem seizure and cannot get air in or out... those colleagues should have come running after the first cry for help. Though Dr. Peavy mentioned some recommendations while face-to-face she did not identify those recommendations in her report to my neurologist. I am uncertain whether I caught her on a bad day or if she's always rude to patients. If she asked me an open ended question, I went to answer it, but two sentences in, she said I was wasting her time. When she asked me another question, as I began answering, she said, "This is why you can't get help, you waste everyone's time." I live with a communication disorder from brain injury. Answering new questions on the spot without prior time to practice a concise, one word answer for a complex situation, is challenging at best. Ultimately she didn't know where to refer me and chose to drop me because although La Mesa Rehab claims to provide care for neurological problems, neuro respiratory problems is a bridge too far for this respiratory therapist. If living with a brain injury, and sensory flooding causes problems, this clinic is not for you. They give instructions, set a timer and walk away so there are timers going off all over the room-filled with clients working at different places. The clinic is set up to work as many patients as possible--so they will literally tell you what to do and walk away. Then they all congregate at their table area and chat while patients do workouts without close supervision around them. I was very disappointed and abandoned without the respiratory interventions Dr. Peavy mentioned in our face to face conversation. I sent multiple emails requesting what she stated in person, but Ultimately, since the conversation wasn't recorded, she wasn't willing to provide what she'd promised when we first met. She discharged me because I was too complex for her clinic. Removing "neurological conditions" from the La Mesa Rehab YouTube channel would prevent them from getting complex patients with "neurological conditions" outside their scope of practice. read more

This is a professional, caring, efficient, top-notch team of therapists. Dr. Tami must both choose, and train, her rehab therapists and techs with great care. My overall experience was positive, Doctor Peavy and her staff got me back to 100% within a short period. I started my Pulmonary Rehab in April 2023. I have long Covid. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't sing out loud or read out loud. With extreme fatigue. Now it's September 2023. I can breathe, read out loud and sing a little out loud. I still have fatigue but not so extreme as before. Thanks to La Mesa rehab and their great team I'm feeling much better and I'm hoping to get back to work soon. It is an unique reran that treats people with lungs problems and actually helps them get better. They graduate after with more lung capacity and sometimes without have to use oxygen. There are many excellent exercise machines to improve your energy. read more

This place is amazing if you need physical or respiratory rehabilitation. I am in the health care business and was not even aware of "respiratory rehab", until my mom (Marge) was referred for her COPD and Pulmonary Hypertension. Dr. Cuomo has been great and keeps an eye on her and makes sure she is getting the services she needs. Tammy, the director has been very knowledgeable, and attentive. She was able to get my mom an hour massage each week which she never has had before and was unaware of the benefits to her movement and breathing. They are helping my mom improve her lung capacity and become more aware of how to breathe correctly. Also, doing corrective movements to improve her strength and balance. All the therapists at the office have been very pleasant and knowledgeable. I am very thankful that my mom has a place like La Mesa Rehab - a very trustworthy place with healthcare workers that really care about their patients!! read more

I've been to La Mesa Rehab for several sessions for my COPD. Their therapeutic approach includes both pulmonary and physical exercises. They also have a salt chamber to reduce mucus production. The staff is both knowledgable and friendly. COPD is incurable and difficult to treat so any pulmonary rehabilitation is welcome. Friendly staff, always make me feel comfortable when I'm here, I get relaxed when I'm in the building, it's not a normal feeling for me to be so comfortable. Theres every tool in the shed here for physical recovery. Theres a great massage therapist here on site. He works wonders. They are helping me my mobility back after my knee surgury. I got muscle spasms on my lower back, pain started to go down except for my lower right side. Workers comp referred me to La mesa rehab 12 sessions and was feeling better than the first day. everyone here is awsome and very nice they make you feel at home and answer your questions. You actually feel welcomed very clean and very professional I used the H-wave and they made sure i got the most benefit from it by putting it different ways where the pain was. I had a very severe tibial plateau and a torn meniscus to boot . When I came here after none weight bearing for 14 weeks the atrophy in my right leg was unreal . When I first came in I could barely walk. I was created by Chris at first, such a pleasure to have him check me in, then had me back on the table for an assessment. It was such a great facility . I had over 40 visits here over the months following where I really got to know the team. I went from 10 steps to 15k steps with the help of them all. The employees here are great! They really know their stuff! Kate & G are always on point w/ the exercises! Less pain only after a few visits. I eventually needed my knee replaced tho. Chelsea Sanscartier has been my Physical Therapist at RU-3 in La Mesa since April 2019, just before my 76th birthday; she's done an outstanding job getting me to stretch properly, stand up and walk straight up, strengthening my arms, shoulders, and legs, and she does this carefully because my lower spine was badly injured when I was deliberately run over by enemies in a truck when I was in the Army. After spending four months in the hospital, I've had five other injuries throughout my life that required surgery and physical therapy afterwards with other Physical Therapists; but none of them were as good as Chelsea, the best Physical Therapist I've ever had! read more
