Santee Physical Therapy is an exceptional provider. I have been a patient with them for several years to help with the treatment of chronic back pain as a result of multiple spinal issues both before and after surgery. They are the most professional and empathetic office I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They patiently listen to all of my diverse complaints and provide the most comprehensive care from exercise regimes and hands on message to tens and heated (or iced) pads in order to help me find relief from constant and severe pain. The above treatments are not the only ones they provide, only what I currently engage in during my weekly visits, but the point being that each patient is unique, and each is provided what they need to feel better. I have an issue with my hands. I sometimes have so much pain i cannot drive. I called in today to reschedule my appointment and the person who answered the phone was very rude and said " well if you want us to help you with your hands..." if it is dangerous for me to drive because i cant make a fist to grab the steering wheel, how dare you give me attitude about my disability? I've been to PT several times, in multiple cities/states, before going to Santee Physical Therapy, but I've never had it solve any problems. SPT is different. Ashley, Dave S (Hawaiian Shirt/Viking's fan), Dave B (BBD), and the guys (Frank, Mike, Ryan, Ian,) saved my back. And my shoulder. And my knee. And my ankle. I went in for my back in August 2011, after being sent to the ER with blackout pain, and these guys (and Ashley,) absolutely saved my life. In my mid-20s I was already thinking I'd have to give up everything fun, and I was pretty sure I was going to struggle with every-day living, for the rest of my life. The docs had pretty much told me so. SPT rehabbed me, and I got so much quality of life back. I got to be a (physically) normal 20-something once again. And of course, I'm injury-prone, and had old injuries; SPT solved those issues,too. They're fantastic! They each delivered their own special care, and a bit extra - fantastic personalities. They solved physical issues, and kept my mental health high, as well. We laughed every day I went in, and even on crappy days, they cheered me up (which is totally not in their job description!) These folks are the best! I miss them dearly, but alas, they fixed ALL of my (joint) problems and sent me on my way, much better than before. I've since moved a few states away, but I still recommend them o EVERYONE in the greater SD area. I'm *so* thankful for all that they did, including their outstanding patience, and their superior knowledge. They also gave great food recommendations, music trivia, and general jovial spirits. Their jokes made my months. (Dave S and his calf-love, still makes me laugh, almost a year later.) I *highly* recommend them to anyone with an injury - before or after surgery, and especially sports-related injuries. They've reduced any need for me to even consider surgical intervention on any of my joints, which I'm so thankful for. They know their stuff and get you back on your feet. If you do the work, and ICE, you will recover. They also help people recovering from major surgeries. I got to meet a good number of knee surgery rehabbers, in particular, in my 2-ish years there, and watch their progress too. We had a jolly-old PT club for awhile, though the "players" occasionally changed; I think the morale helped with the recovery. We got to know each other, and looked forward to seeing one another, and rooted each other on. We cared that the person beside us "graduated". SPT fostered this atmosphere while maintaining patient confidentiality and maintaining HIPPA standards. Ashley and both Daves were always excellent in explaining the problems and the treatments to me. They never patronized me, which was nice, and I was very involved in my own recovery. It was nice knowing the reasoning behind each exercise, treatment, or injury. (I need to also give an honorable mention to Ester, whom I never had the pleasure of working with directly, but after spending nearly 2 years in PT with all of my issues, I got to know the staff...and she's great, and of course, Kris and Sam, at the front desk, who always took wonderful care of me and kept me entertained.) I am not going to give you any opinions, just the facts. My doctor gave me some choices of P.T. businesses in Santee. I chose Santee Physical Therapy for no special reason, as I knew nothing about any of them. My doctor sent them the P.T. orders. They called me immediately to make an appt., but I wanted to wait a week or so to start because my doctor was thinking of adding something to the order. They asked what ins. I had and I told them. When I was ready to start, I called them to make an appt. They asked what my insurance was and I told them. On my first visit, I got there 15 minutes prior to the appt. time. The office girl, I think her name is Kelly, was flying around trying to get out of there to go home. A client had just finished up her session and was trying to ask Kelly about something and Kelly was really short and rude with her as she gathered her things to go home. No doubt about it, Kelly had to be out that door on the hour or the world was going to end. I was grateful Kelly didn't have time to get me checked in and situated. Come to find out, they didn't know I had two areas of my body that needed work, even though it was on the doctor's orders. My therapist, Ashley seemed knowledgeable, friendly and acted professionally. When she finished her evaluation, I set up 8 more appts., 2 a week for four weeks. I was told I needed to pay $45.00 for each visit, which I agreed to, and I paid my $45 for the first visit. On my second visit, I was happy to get the therapy Ashley gave me because I could tell she was working the right places. Instead of paying $45 for that visit, then paying $45 again the next day for my next visit, I asked if I could pay $90 which would include both visits that week. I was told that would be fine, so I paid the $90 for the two appts. that week. When I arrived the next day for my third appt. at 5:00 P.M., Kelly was there. She told me that now I had to pay $63 each time because they did not contract with my ins. co. so I'd have to pay more until my deductible was met. I just looked at her, processing all this. A phone call would have been nice. 1. They knew what ins. co. I had and they knew it more than a week before I ever came in. They knew it my first visit. They knew it my second visit. But Kelly waited until I drove to their office and walked in for my 5:00 P.M. appt. before telling me there was a change. 2. If they didn't contract with my ins. company, what was this deal about meeting my deductible? Something seemed fishy to me, so I said I would go elsewhere, asked for the $45 that I had paid in advance and asked for the orders my M.D. had sent to them so I could take them to another PT office. Kelly said she would get me those things and that she would call me. After a week of hearing nothing from Kelly I called the office. Kelly was at lunch and would be back at 1. I asked for them to have her call me. She called me...at 4:45 P.M. By that time I was no longer sitting by my phone. This seemed like more and more of a scam to me as each deal and promise got broken by Kelly and Santee Physical Therapy. I called again, fuming. Kelly said she couldn't do anything, that I had to call their bookkeeping office. So I did. Tina told me that I would not get a refund, or the orders from the dr, that I owed them money, even though I had paid them what they told me I owed prior to them changing their mind. Tina also said that they didn't know until they billed the ins. company that they weren't contracted with them. Really? I've never run into a situation where the provider didn't know what ins. companies they worked with. Tina said I would not get my $45 back and that I would not get the doctor's orders back either. I said I would go about it another way and hung up. About 30 minutes later, someone else from bookkeeping called to tell me that, yes, I would get my $45 back, but it would take 30 days. When I asked about the doctor's orders, she told me I would have to drive to Escondido to pick them up, that Santee Physical Therapy would not mail them. When I questioned that practice, she said she would have to check on it. Have not heard back from her. All this time I am doing without the PT my doctor ordered. It will be a pleasant surprise if I get my $45 back. If I had known prior, I would have never gotten involved with Santee Physical Therapy because of their questionable business practices and apparent ignorance of how things work. Too bad Ashley works there, because I think she's a good therapist in a poor business office. If I get my refund, I will bump up the number of stars. But be sure you get everything in writing if you go there and remember not to trust them when they say they take your ins., or that they'll call you. Always double check with your ins. co. since Santee Physical Therapy's business people don't know. And ask your ins. co. what your copayment per visit will be; don't trust Santee Physical Therapy. read more

Based on one review I almost didn't go here, but I'm sure glad I did. Due to a recurring knee injury I was a patient for over six months, and during that time I ran across two Dave's. The one Mark B mentioned in his review thankfully no longer works here, and the Dave that remains (Hawaiian shirt Dave) is the main reason why I kept going back. The support staff is also very friendly and courteous. Also, their newest P.T.'s is a recent USC grad and she's very good. I recommend giving them a try to see for yourself. read more

I have to physical therapy in many states over many years. I have a reoccurring problem with my hip that I have to address every so often. That being said I really likes Santee Physical Therapy and Ashley seems great! I have only had the one appointment but she assessed my body more than any other PT ever has. I was talking to her about what I do and don't do and she was super informative. I am used to Physical Therapists who just tell you what to do without explaining what the goal is. Ashley talked to me about why certain areas hurt and what we were going to do about it. It felt like a partnership in getting me better rather than just following a prescription. I recently underwent knee replacement surgery and was told the post-op physical therapy is crucial to a successful outcome. I was given a list of physical therapy locations covered by my insurance plan and chose SPT based on yelp reviews and location ( i really knew very little about out-patient PT prior to this encounter). 12 visits and 5 weeks later, I'm happy to report that Im walking over a mile a day, regaining strength and flexibility in my knee, and even was able to swing a golf club without pain for the first time in a year! The staff was amazingly helpful, friendly, and professional. Sydney (front office/admin) was great working with my provider and insurance carrier. Dr. Ashley worked with me from my initial visit and developed a care plan that was tough, but achievable and encouraged me every step of the way. When she was not available, Nikki and Alex stepped in and it seemed like I never missed a beat. Frank, Andrew, and Sarah (the PT aids) were great at keeping me moving forward, teaching me proper technique for exercise and encouraging me to push myself. And all the employees have helped me through a difficult time in my life... And I give them love and respect...
