It's rare that service truly wows me anymore, which is why I'm here to tell you that you NEED to check out this incredible unassuming Thai spot. I had been to La Mai a few years back and remembered it being tasty and quite empty so when we were looking for a last minute option for a dinner date, this spot came to mind. We walked in and were able to seat ourselves immediately in their intimate dining room. We were one of maybe 7 couples there in total, a very relaxing environment. The food was delicious, exactly what you'd expect out of an American Thai restaurant, your favorite dishes like pad see ew and pad Thai of course, with some fusion appetizers like crab rangoon and delicious themed beverages. When I asked about the spice level, Dan gave me a great example to work off of, noting a "sriracha level spice" for their medium spice. The real star of the show, however, was our server, Dan. Dan went above and beyond to explain the menu to us, going into detail about the type of basil used and delighting the nerds in us with his knowledge and detail. What really stuck out to me was this instance, though: his creative problem solving! I ordered a mocktail that has boba in it, and they had unfortunately run out of boba straws. Instead of leaving me to my own devices, Dan offered a long spoon so I could scoop the boba out, but on top of that, he also brought over an extra side of the boba so I wouldn't have to fish for it if I didn't want to! Totally unprompted! I mean WOW. Local content creators will tell you service in Denver is dead, Dan is proving that wrong. I've been here a few times and every visit it's fantastic & consistent. The staff is super nice and welcoming. The menu has a great variety and everything is so good-- it can make ordering a challenge just because you want a little bit of everything (I highly recommended going with some friends for this reason). This place was in my 'Want to Try' folder and I was in the area so I decided to stop by! Popped in just before dinner time and the place was about half full. Cute decor and lighting, even has a bar for seating and drinks. Ordered the Pad Thai, and unfortunately they don't offer pork so I settled on chicken. Other protein choices were tofu and beef...I'll probably go with tofu next time. They had varying spice levels, mild to very spicy. Medium was a perfect level for me but I still felt like the sauce was a bit too sweet. I'm not sure if this can be adjusted or not. Today at La Mai Thai kitchen I tried the best massaman curry that I have ever had. It was rich, full of flavor and a large portion. I loved the whole peanuts mixed in to the curry, it made for a great crunch. The Thai iced tea was also the best I've ever had, it was perfectly sweet and full of Thai tea flavor. My mom got the pad thai: it was creamy and flavorful, with the right amount of sweetness. It wasn't too heavy on the peanut flavor. The massaman came with fried roti, which was flaky and delicious with the curry. It was a large portion for $23, which included chicken; beef is extra. Someone recommended this place to us and it did not disappoint. Wish that we lived closer. It would be a regular hang for us. I think la mai Thai is a solid option for Thai in Edgewater! It's not as spicy as other Thai places in Denver/Edgewater but I their portions make up for it!! We usually get the pad see ew and the Panang curry but switched it up this time and got the Thai fried rice. I got the hot option and it really didn't have too much heat to it! I live down the street and have ordered at least a dozen times since moving into the area from Golden and I cannot stress enough that this is a local staple with real Thai basil and great flavor that honestly gets even better as leftovers after a night of marinating in the seasonings. Tried La Mai and would give it a Meh for the following reasons. The Pad See Ew had very little flavor. The noodles were good and the chicken sliced thin and prepared well but it was light in color and not a lot of flavor. I assume they went too light on the soy sauces. We also had the boat noodle soup. The flavors were good but the beef was way overcooked and not tender. It also was light on any vegetables and only had bean sprouts and a basil bunch. The chicken wing appetizer was fried perfectly for a good crunch but still moist on the inside. The sauce for the chicken wings was pretty good but not awesome or unique - think sweet Thai chili sauce. The service was very good and we liked both the server and who we think might be the owner came to check on us. The ambiance was nice. Unfortunately the first two tables we sat at were very sticky and we kept moving until we found a clean table. It was a 3 star experience but I give 4 stars because I feel there is potential if they tighten up the areas mentioned. read more

A cozy Thai food spot right near Sloan Lake. The food was seasoned, well-done and flavorful with an affordable lunch special combo. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and the Pad Thai lunch combo. So I was surprised by a couple of things here, first off, the Roti! I'm glad to find it served here. I love this style of pancake. To me, no dipping sauce is even needed. The flake when biting into it is already a major selling point. Secondly, the Tom yum noodle soup is a fusion done right in my opinion. The signature sweet and tangy Thai style soup paired with Vietnamese style pho noodle made this soup bowl sparkle! My friend's vegetables rice plate is boring and our appetizer chicken wing is over fried. All in all, I can only give La Ma Thai an average rating. If a friend wants to come here, I won't say no. Big Breath!! I never like writing these type of reviews! Yet these also are required. TWO major issues: This occurred the week of October 13th, I had been to La Mai Thai once for a take out, (later in this review). This time, as always, I entered, letting them know I was coming in with my Service dog!! In advance. Aspen and I entered and immediately sat in the only booth, wooden. Aspen cuddles and sits down right next to me, as always. I requested a small bowl of water for her. The waiter (?) kept going on about how he liked dogs, and they were amenable to dogs. I restated, she is a "Service Dog" as her red jacket states, please some water. The same waiter came with a bit of water, and stated he was placing it on the floor, a table away from us. I requested, "please may I have the bowl, I will handle giving her the bowl" "NO, it will sit over here on the floor, we like dogs, we understand about dogs.!" Obviously he did not understand about service dogs, I arose, gave a nudge to my Service Dog to follow, and politely stated we would leave. We walked quietly out the door, there were no other customers, open the back door for my Service Dog to jump in, lead off, and climbed into the driver side, started the car - ready to leave. WOW!! The same man came to their door and started to scream at me, I could only see his behavior, with an angry face, and hearing the angry screams, not the words. I was astounded. There was no incidents, no barking, Aspen is quiet and sweet, we left without interruptions. But he continued to scream and posture. To the take out months ago in the summer: I went in alone, this was my first time, and ordered some dish with tofu and a small appetizer. The restaurants is $$-$$$ but maybe really good. As I was paying, here came the TIP FACTOR! TIPS FOR TAKE OUT: What do we do?? There is no service other than what a restaurant offers, FOOD from the kitchen. Do we tip due to a person bringing the food to the counter where we pay. I selected the 15%, enough and rather off putting. The food was very GOOD!! The tofu was one of the best I have ever had!! I would return with my (!!!) Service Dog some day, since it was in the local of the Public Market and I love Asian food! The food is good, just do not enter with a Service Dog!!! Parking can be a issue, it is the busy section of Sheridan with many restaurants, Public Market and other businesses. We did not have time for photos! read more

We ordered from this restaurant tonight, for our first time. My bf and I both liked the food, but didn't love mine. He got the Boat Noodles, and felt they were rich in flavor. He ordered it Medium spicy and for him, it was a teensy bit too spicy. I got the Drunken Noodles with crispy chicken. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't great. There were hardly ANY noodles at all, and the ones that were there were so soggy that they were falling apart super easily and were only small bits, like 1" long. The whole reason I ordered this dish was for the nice, wide, fresh noodles. These felt old and were completely fallen apart. Very disappointing. The Mango with Sticky Rice was awesome. It was the most authentic one I've had, since Thailand, many years ago. But it was $13, and was rather small. But SO good. While my family frequently orders Pad Thai and Pad See Ew at Thai restaurants, I like to try different dishes. Today, I was glad I tried the recommended Khao Soi w/ crispy chicken, which was a wonderfully flavored creamy noodle soup/dish with tender chicken. Our server was incredibly warm and friendly, and appropriately apologetic that they were out of the wide noodles typically used for Pad See Ew. Despite the substitution for thin noodles, the Pad See Ew was good, as was the Lamai Pad Thai. This house version was also recommended, but was not too different from the sweet and tangy noodles we are used to at Thai restaurants we frequent. Interior is pleasant, with a small bar and tables. Oddly, The Mandolorian was streaming on the TV during dinner, so you know the vibe is more casual than fine dining. Portions and prices are reasonable...all of our entrees were $16.00. read more

Well...we have mixed thoughts on our experience. First...my husband (a Pad Thai expert/enthusiast), LOVED the Pad Thai (Thai spicy). The spice was legit...and fabulous. I had the Pad See Ew - which was tasty. The wings, however disappointed. Not because of the flavor (yum), but the fact we got 3 wings for $13.99. THREE? Not worth it. Would definitely order from La Mai Thai again (yum), but would skip the wings...UNLESS there were 6. That would be better. OR, tell the customer (in the menu) how many wings you will get...and let them decide. If the wings were a better value...we would have given it a 5 STAR review. read more

I would like to start with talking about my delicious Pad Thai at La Mai Thai, but that isn't the memory that I have of the visit, so I will get to this later. What I really remember about my delicious Pad Thai is the kitchen fee and credit card fee on the receipt, together which add 5% to the total. It sort of bothers me that while every other industry has figured these issues out, restaurants don't. I was surprised that I didn't have to pay a straw fee when I asked for one, but in a sense I did pay a fee in the subtle response from the server. I usually bring my own straws, but that is a story for another time. The fees were exhausting, but my delicious Pad Thai was delicious. It was what you would expect delicious Pad Thai to taste like, that combination of salty, sweet, savory, that makes it a favorite, though oddly the peanuts were off to the side. Did I say it was delicious? It was. La Mai Thai unbundles the protein from its dishes, so you have to pay extra for things that other restaurants include. In my case, that pushed the delicious Pad Thai from $17 to $21. I would have liked a mixed drink to add to it, but they are all $13. Maybe I am behind on what things cost these days. I was just looking for that one tiny bargain, that one value-driven option that makes me feel like I won that game, but there was none. read more

We were already planning on going, but were excited to see the restaurant is in the 2023 Dining Out Passbook. I'm not able to drink right now since I'm pregnant, but the lemon Thai tea was great. It almost reminded me of lemon and fig tea. We split the pad see ew with beef and the crispy chicken khao soi. The noodles in the pad see ew were perfect, the beef was tasty, and the veggies complimented the dish. I am obsessed with the crispy chicken khao soi - the chicken didn't have a super thick breading on it (which made it just the right amount of crispy), the curry was unreal and had just the right kick (even though we finished the dish, we took home the remaining curry for rice at home), and the noodles completed this great meal. Not only is the food good, but the restaurant is so cute. It features a long bar, lots of seating options, really beautiful wall decor, and bonus points for a large garage door that stays open on warm days. My husband and I's go to when we don't know what we want is Thai and my husband is always on the hunt for good Khao Soi. So instead of going to our regular Thai spot that doesn't have Khao Soi we opted to try a new spot (my husband has already gone back once on his own if that tells you anything)! I stuck with my go to pad Thai since it seems to be pretty popular here. It was good but something was missing. So I'd definitely try something else next time. Their crab wontons were nice and crispy, but lacking a bit on the filling portion. But my husband's Khao Soi was SO good! The restaurant is clean and modern with super friendly staff. Very strange and uncomfortable experience. Came in alone before five for a quick bite to eat. Ordered soup to start and the pad Thai. The petite waitress - very pushy and rude - brought me my soup and the pad Thai at the same time. As soon as she dropped off the food, she told me she was clocking out and if I could settle the bill. Not only did she charge me for using a credit card, but there is kitchen love on your bill and an added tip. Please check your bills before you tip and sign your name. I find this practice to be unethical and dishonest. The other untruth is that this petite waitress did not leave. She continued to work and when I asked her why she pushed me to pay my bill before I'd even eaten my food, she didn't have an answer so therefore, she lied to me. I don't know why her behavior was the way it was, but please check your bill and also be prepared for some very unusual un hospitable behavior. The food was just OK. I will not go back. read more

We had the Som Dee fried rice and the drunken noodles--both were delicious, full of flavor, and well-prepared. Our waiter was also very personable and made the experience even better.
