I stopped into La Madeline for lunch while running some errands. Parking was a breeze as it shares a large lot with the shopping center it's a part of. What I love about La madeleine is its ability to have good French inspired dished in a fast casual setting, I felt like I am stepping into a quaint Parisian bistro. The staff is courteous and gave great recommendations. I highly recommend La Madeline. To eat I got the tomato soup which is thick like a bisque but is more importantly very YUMMY (psst, there is a reason they sell it by the jar if you want). I also ordered the prime rib and provolone sandwich. The sandwich is great on its own having plenty of meat, even more gooey provolone, and a great aioli sauce, but... dip it in the tomato soup and BOOM, a whole new level of goodness. read more

Ordinarily, this La Madeleine would be an easy five stars. The breakfast was delicious, and I had quite possibly the BEST PARISIAN HOT CHOCOLATE of my life! It was rich, warm, creamy and absolutely perfect. But unfortunately, the cashier single-handedly dimmed the experience. There were four of us dining on a Saturday morning, and we placed a pretty solid order of entrées, beverages, pastries... the works. Despite that, the cashier greeted every simple request with the strongest attitude I've seen before 10 a.m. We asked for our cookies in a bag instead of on a plate, we got an attitude. We asked for one order of the eggs to be cooked a specific way, we got an attitude. I ordered extra croissants, and she put them on a plate instead of in a bag... and somehow I still got the attitude. Long story short: the food was excellent, the hot chocolate was perfection, the other staff was friendly/helpful, but the customer service was giving "absolutely not." Today was my first time visiting La Madeleine, and me and my boyfriend were not disappointed! Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Pam, who gave us a great break down of the menu. We ended up ordering a cafe mocha, a parisien hot chocolate, a snickerdoodle creme brûlée, an order of french toast, and a chicken parisien sandwich. The food overall was great! In my opinion, the beverages and the pastries were the items that stood out the most. Upon leaving, I was very indecisive over which pastry I wanted to try. Okay, truthfully, this La Madeleine location can be "hit or miss." I really wish they would consider updating their Chicken Caesar to be like the one at the Bailey's Crossroads location which makes a Caesar salad with warm marinated chicken. However, I recently stopped by to get my free dessert (after answering a survey), and I chose the Sacher Torte which is a chocolate cake filled with raspberry jam (sometimes apricot), iced with chocolate mousse, and covered in chocolate ganache. I recently visited La Madeleine in Kingstowne and had an excellent experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for either a quick bite or a relaxed meal. What really stood out was the exceptional service from the manager who went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right. He was incredibly helpful. The food was delicious as always (i got the Prime Rib Provolone Sandwich + lentil soup + eclair this time). Between the quality of the food and the comfortable environment (by the fireplace), this location has become one of my favorites in the area. I'll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food and even better service. Also very happy to hear that the free bread IS BACK! Was in the Kingstown area I wanted something unassuming. So I chose LA Madeline. I remember one time for work they catered our holiday party and the food was good. Nice thick slices of turkey, good stuffing. So I chose the turkey croissant and they gave me a big bag for a little sandwich. Way to much for a to go order. I digress the sandwich was soft and fluffy the turkey got lost in the sandwich a lot of egg. The cheddar blended on perfectly. Next time I'll take more time look at the menu. I have LOVED La Madeleine's for 20 years!! I drove over from Maryland to eat here often! (Alexandria Old Town, VA) They recently "renovated" it and completely ruined it!!!! DH and I came on a Sunday morning kind of early because we didn't know if Sunday church traffic would be an issue (it wasn't really while we were there). There was a line when we got inside and it partially blocked the entrance, but only one register was open at the time which was the cause of the line and blockage. The case of baked goods looked amazing!! Of course we picked a couple of macarons (lemon and vanilla). There were other flavors available like raspberry and chocolate. I ordered a crepe and hot chocolate, DH ordered a quiche and a cappuccino. The food came out fairly quickly except the quiche. The quiche came out almost 30 minutes after we ordered. We noticed several people who sat after us had gotten their food and I was more than halfway done with my crepe (I offered to wait to eat, but he said no). DH went to find out when his quiche would be ready and they told him it was still in the oven. Shortly after, his quiche arrived. It was definitely freshly made as it was piping hot. I was able to taste a bite of it - delicious! But wild that it took that long. The crepe was also delicious and sweet. Everyone was really friendly and the food was good. It was a busy Saturday afternoon lunch rush. The line was to the door. I was waiting about 15 mins when a young girl who I assume worked there, but was not working that shift, got to the register. She and the person working the register started carrying on, yelling and joking loudly with the other workers, holding up the line. After about 5 more mins of this carrying on, she was done with her order. She then proceeded to go back into the kitchen area, carrying a large coat and carrying on completely unprofessionally with the workers. Even saw her grab food on the line (while carrying her coat in hand and clearly didn't wash her hands). After yelling and acting like a fool in the kitchen for a few mins, her and her friend got a table in the dining room. After seeing this, and how the manager on duty clearly has no professional or food safety standards, I walked out. I will not be back. Do better and raise your standards. read more

Unfortunately their silverware, trays and especially glasses are routinely dirty and not well washed. 11/3/16 Same complaint regarding the silverware continues. 12/31/17 We continue to like the food but when we called ahead to pick up our order the experience was less than positive. The wait at the pick up line was unacceptably long. The person behind the counter was extremely busy and when she did help customers it was taking her up to 3-4 Minutes per customer. That is not how a quick pickup should work. They should learn how panera does it. It's supposed to be a French style bakery but all the employees I saw/interacted with had no clue what a pain au raison was. It's the most common French pastry, a buttery flaky pastry with plump sweet raisins. They asked if it was a bread or bagel....so I gave up and bought a simple apple turnover...not French at all and it was awful, there was NO apple in it!! Wow this place has really gone downhill!!! So prices went up and quality is now at the floor? I used to love this place despite the negative reviews on the service (which has always been mediocre), however I used to really like their food. My go to was the full sandwich with two side combo. Now they only give you one side and you have to pay extra if you want a soup. Ok whatever, I'll take it! Big mistake, I ordered a side of pasta salad with my sandwich, and the salad literally tasted as if it had been taken out of the freezer 20 min before, it was so incredibly cold, even stuck together in some parts as if it was still frozen. The croque monseur sandwich, which was my favorite, was a complete disaster. It was beyond burnt and it barely had any cheese on top or inside. It tasted like burnt toast with a slice of ham. Stopped in to this Le Madeleine, in Kingstowne, for the first time. WOW! Who's managing this site? First disappointment is the espresso machine is broken. That's strike one but hey, things break. What's earning this restaurant 1 star is the mess. 2 thirds of tables are unoccupied, but I can't find a single table clean. Tables are unbussed with dirty plates, and those that have been cleared remain covered in food scraps. I had to complain to have someone come out and bus the tables. We wont be returning. read more

Just say no. Oh my God. I just went into this restaurant for the first time today since I was over in Kingstown area for a doctor's appointment. Had a hankering for a Caesar salad and French onion soup which I ordered takeout. PS, it took 30 minutes of me standing there waiting to get the takeout order. During that time, I got to watch chaos. People were bumping into each other were unclear about the orders that were on the TV screen and probably the most disturbing to me were the incredible health food violations I watched from touching numerous types of foods with the same gloves, to packing up food realizing it wasn't needed and dumping it back in the main container in front of people waiting for their food, tossing more food in the front containers with just their gloves, IE four cut strawberries toss into the fruit bowl container. If that wasn't bad enough, they weren't calling out people's names when the food was ready. Because the wait was so long, people started digging into bags to take out things to see if it was there's. I watched a waiting takeout customer take out almost everything that was in the bag with his hands and then put it back in when he realized it wasn't his bag. On the food, I can only comment on the French onion soup right now which while it has a good tasting base it is very salty. Additionally, packaging it for it was really weird for takeout. They provided the soup in a cup almost filled to the top which was welcomed, but they took a little sandwich bag and put the croutons and cheese in that. Again, while I appreciate soup was nearly filled, if someone has takeout, wherever they're going they'll have to warm up the soup in order to get the cheese to melt. So that was a little strange to me. Also I got a caramel macchiato. The taste profile was so off with the espresso overpowering everything. I expected the coffee to be a lot better. Based on what I saw today, there is no way I'd ever eat here again. I am giving the place a 2 because it did look clean in the main area and it's very inviting but I would be really nervous about cross-contamination and potential health violations. It was slow so not really much of a reason to not have someone wiping tables, 3 people looked at us, walked by an ignored until the person setting up a dessert tray was done with loading it then they took our order. 3.25 stars for an interesting fast French food concept. I was getting my tires changed in the Kingstowne Towne Center (a little repetitive, I know) and wanted to grab some food while I waited. While I was going to grab Panera, Yelp told me that a French restaurant named La Madeline was nearby, so I decided to check it out. I arrived to the venue and found what I (and other reviewers) would call a French version of Panera Bread. I've seen French Restaurants and French pastry spots, but not French fast food. The venue is well-decorated, with a dog-friendly patio out front and a warm interior. However, it also includes a walk-up ordering area and a (well-hidden) drink station. It's like the venue couldn't decide if it wanted to be sit down or a quick coffee and pastry spot (it does have WiFi). It also is a bit like Disney with audio in the bathroom welcoming you to the venue and giving you French word tips (couldn't tell if that was cute or weird). I went into the line area to order and encountered a standard casher/server. I read the service isn't great here, but it was basically in line with what I would get at Panera. She also brought my food out and picked up my table, so she was working pretty hard and I had no qualms. In terms of food, I decided to get a Croque Madame (with an egg on top...I asked for a recommendation and the cashier wasn't that interested in talking) and a Cafe Mocha (this place does serve wine FYI). My food was out in about 10 minutes and tasted pretty solid. The balsamic salad on the side was a good touch, and the mocha hit the spot. Overall, La Madeline executed the French fast food concept well for what it was (thus the 4 star actual rating), but the concept itself is a little odd and really only works if you are grabbing coffee or a quick bite rather than a traditional French meal. read more
