Another amazing dining experience with our friends at La Lupa. Our friend Chad greeted us at the front. We didn't have a reservation so he squeezed us at the last moment and had a beautiful dinner. We started with the Caesar salad and had the special a halibut over risotto and a side of broccoli rabe. Everything was just delicious. Nothing but the best. Ambience and the staff was amazing. A must try! read more

Not my " vibe." It's tight inside. It's loud. Not comfortable. The food, ehh. Lot and lots of heavy cheese on everything. And the steak salty, fatty, gamey. They are not accommodating to the customer. The prices are ridiculous. Over rated to say the least. read more

What do you get when you put a Dunkin, a nail salon, an engineering consultant, and a NYC-vibe restaurant into a suburban strip mall? I can't speak for the first three. But the last one? One hell of a restaurant. By all accounts, a seasonally driven, high-end Italian spot taking 11pm reservations on a Saturday shouldn't exist, let alone thrive, off Route 33. But La Lupa defies the odds and delivers a full-on sucker punch to your taste buds. After finally landing a birthday reservation, my wife and I grabbed a great bottle (thank G-d for BYOB) and made the trip to a place everyone we know has been hyping. Even though our table wasn't ready, La Lupa made an immediate impression: warm welcome, offered to pour our wine while we waited, easy conversation, genuine interest. It set the tone for what might be the best hospitality I've ever experienced. Once seated at the chef's counter, our server walked us through the menu and delivered the specials with as much detail and passion as a thespian recites Hamlet's "To Be or Not To Be". Here's how the meal shook out: Market Crudo (Salmon) - Not traditionally Italian, but the fatty salmon with yuzu and soy was bright, balanced, and a perfect opener. Roman Gnocchi -Heavenly. Full Stop. If Helen's face could launch 1000 ships, this single dish would send the rest of the Greek army to battle. A gnocchi made without potatoes and the perfect elevation of what originally was a peasant dish into something sublime and worthy of a James Beard award. The umami from the mushrooms and brown butter combined with the soft pillowy texture of the semolina dumpling is exquisite and I already know will be one of the best bites I will have all year and its' only April. Tonelli - Leek-forward to a fault. After the gnocchi, this fell flat. The concept is there, but the pasta skewed undercooked and the dish needed something to tie it together. Skirt Steak - A Snake River Farm piece of meat grilled over a binchotan grill...don't mind if I do. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, the chef was able to respect the protein and highlight the beautiful marbling that makes this cut so yumcious. Brussels Sprouts - Not officially a thing (yet), but these should be called Italian Kung Pao sprouts. Hazelnuts for crunch, agrodolce for sweet tang, perfectly cooked. It works. Cacio e Pepe Potatoes - Crisp at dinner but needed more sauce. Reheated, they softened but the flavor came through more. Jury's still out. Was every dish flawless? No. It ranged from good to exceptional. But the service? Bar none, one of the best I've ever had. They've nailed a rare balance: food that could hold its own in a stuffy, pretentious dining room, paired with service that feels like your favorite neighborhood bar. I dropped a napkin--before I could react, it was replaced. Wine was decanted and poured without asking. The staff matched my energy, diving as deep into food talk as I wanted, clearly as excited as we were. If the T-Birds from Grease went into hospitality, this is what it would look like. You can't fake that kind of passion. Most places you try once and return for the service. At La Lupa, you come back for both. We already booked our return visit for our anniversary. read more

My husband took me here to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant is tiny and as a result, tables are close together. The restaurant is dark and loud- I liked the music but they were playing a lot of hip hop which isn't typical of an Italian restaurant. We split the lupa pizza and it was delicious. We then moved onto entrees. I had scallops, my husband had gnocchi and we split Brussel sprouts. everything was good. My husbands gnocchi was a special ; it was good but was missing something in my opinion- and since it was $90, it was definitely a shame. My scallops were cooked well. For dessert we enjoyed espresso, which was good, and the brownie sundae. The brownie was not enjoyable, but the gelato was excellent. Our server, Anthony, was helpful in suggesting things to try. He was extremely patient and accommodating. We would definitely return for the pizza. read more

After apple picking at Battleview Orchards, my future daughter in law made reservations for party of 4 at La Lupa. Nicely decorated as we walked in. Cozy dinning area with extremely dim lighting. Our Server Fiona was great. Introduced us to the philosophy of La Lupa. Fresh made pasta. Light pizzas. She encouraged family style and sharing. She proceeded to tell us about the specials. We placed our orders. Calamari was good. My future daughter in law and I decided to order pizza and tortellini to share. Pizza was light, flavorful. Hot pepper oil was served on side at my request. Tortalini was tasty, rich cheesy sauce. Small portions- I had about 5-6 tortalinis. My husband ordered the JERSEY CORN CARAMELLE- tasty, but small portion. My son's entree the fresh fish of the day- halibut was the only entree size meal. The pastas were appetizer size or small plate size. I would expect double the amount of pasta for the price. Little deceiving when it was suggested family style to share- expecting entree size, not appetizer size entrees. Fiona read off the desserts- Brownie, warm cookie and a variety of gelatos. It was a bit noisy with the music and conversations, I didn't hear one of the dessert items. Coziness and darkness- table next to us on the left, knocked over the water bottle, landed on my son's foot. Bottle did not break- thankfully. I stood up to use the restroom, almost bumped into a Server. Servers were bumping into the tables. My eyes had to adjust to the light when we left. Maybe lower the music, increase the lighting and remove a table or 2 to get less cozy seating. Food was tasty and Fiona was awesome!! read more

Our visit here was an absolute pleasure. Our waiter Brian was so friendly, on top of his game, and very knowledgeable of the food. The ingredients taste so fresh! We had steak and pasta and both had great favors. The desserts were delicious! The location is a small well designed place. The tables are fairly close to one another to allow them to have as much guest as possible but it didn't bother us at all. Would 100% return The place is a BYOB FYI read more

I've never been here and have heard more and more recently about it, especially from social media. In the past when I've looked for a reservation, I couldn't ever find anything. We found one last minute a few days ago for a birthday celebration for tonight. The restaurant is BYOB. Upon walking in it's super dark and dimly lit. The music is also quite loud and the bass is well heard. It's a smaller spot and they definitely pack the tables in. There's also four seats overlooking where the pizza is made. I was surprised to see only one bathroom in the whole restaurant. The service was really good and the manager was very hands-on and helping out. We started with the Caesar which wasn't bad, the focaccia special, which was just ok, the rice balls, which I loved and the fried chicken, which was a little too peppery for me. Then we got the margarita pizza which I really liked, the spicy vodka, which was too spicy for me and the anolini de parma which I also liked. For dessert we got the deconstructed tiramisu, which also was just ok and the honey comb and Biscoff gelato was really good. I would've loved to try a steak but just couldn't pay $90-$200 for one at this time. The service was really good and I liked the ambience, but the food wasn't as superb as I thought it was going to be. I'll be willing to try again and try some other items considering the menu always changes. read more

Unfortunately another dining establishment disrespectful of your time. 2nd time coming with over 1hr wait past reservation time. We walked out. I hope they figure out a better reservation structure. A cozy, yet vibrant and upbeat Italian restaurant with phenomenal food. My boyfriend and I went back for our second time this past weekend on Sunday at 4:30pm. I thought it would be quieter but was still jam packed. The restaurant reminds me of a restaurant in the city - it's very skinny and long - which doesn't leave a lot of space between tables. I mean we sat at the same table twice, and on my side I'm closed in tightly at a wooden booth. In order to go to the bathroom my boyfriend has to pull the table out. There was a plant close to my head as well as the staff working directly and above behind me. This is all completely fine it just naturally gives a congested feeling. The interior is super dark which is cool with dim lighting and nice ambience around however it does make it slightly harder to see the food. The table next to us is only a few inches away and the tables along the booth side in general are packed tight. With all of the customers the inside gets SERIOUSLY LOUD. They interestingly play music that is like rap/hip-hop loudly which is cool - again reminding me of a place in the Lower East Side or something but it makes it hard to hear the person you're dining with/communicate. The staff here is EXTREMELY NICE. And so so super attentive. There will be not a minute your water glass isn't refilled. They are kind and elaborate with their menu and special dishes - explaining each detail. Our waiter let us know all the dishes are recipes created by the chef's mother. The manager checked on us often. It was the first time we tried the pizza. We had the margherita and it was thin and SO delicious. I let the waiter know I like spicy, so he gave me their insanely delicious side of red peppers and oil you can add to your meals (def ask for it!) The brussel sprouts are delicious and come with a huge portion. One of the waiters has asked me if I wanted to leave it on the table for dinner and I said yes. After I got back from the bathroom, I believe someone else asked my boyfriend so they wrapped it up. I didn't realize the wrapped food is put in a bag behind you on the top part of the wooden booth. So when I asked a waiter where they went he thought we never got them and brought more. (I asked quickly and probably should've waited to ask our own server) however the waiter and manager were so kind to let us have the second portion of Brussels for free. THANK YOU!!! The Sunchoke pasta special is AMAZING. I loved the sides of the halibut. I thought the fish itself was ok. Wish they had scallops - maybe need to come back when it gets warmer. I also def want to try the crudo app when retuning - looks amazing! For dessert we had a delectable warm brownie with cinnamon gelato assortment and they added a candle for my boyfriend's bday! They have a ton of gelato options which is cool. I saw someone else order the cauliflower app and that looked amazing as well. Overall it's a fun spot just not the best place if you're looking to quietly unwind. It's more of an upbeat date spot with cool atmosphere, music and delicious meals. They have one bathroom in the back that is multi-sex. I highly recommend making a reservation. It's also BYOB! Last thing but don't forget to miss the turn into the strip mall the restaurant resides in bc comes up quick. read more

The waiters are always super nice. Food is pretty good but the atmosphere sucks! It's a tiny place so you're sitting next to other people. Music is very loud, on top of it rap!!!! What nice place plays rap? So with the loud music, other people sitting literally right next to you screaming to each other over the music, you can't relax and enjoy your experience. I hope the owner reads the comments and tries to fix the things people complain about. read more

The most delicious meals & looking forward to dining there again! We ordered the specials & from the menu. It's a BYO.

Quaint little restaurant. My server was really amazing and knowledgeable. I had the artichoke appetizer and the seasonal crab pasta. Very pleased with the appetizer. Very bright components to the dish. The pasta not so much. It was just ok and to receive 10 small pillows of pasta with blue crab for $38 was not really worth the price. It was just ok and very very small. read more

My expectations for La Lupa were already high, and this dining experience exceeded my expectations in every single way. The menu was overwhelming because I literally wanted to try everything. There are lots of apps, pastas, pizzas, meats and fishes plus some daily specials. We started with the pulpo which was divine. A huge portion with so much fresh octopus, tomatoes and olives in the most flavorful oil. Next up was the bucatini amatriciana which was coated in the creamiest tomato sauce with lots of smoky pancetta. They have a few cuts of steak that you can order in a small or a large and these are grilled on a yakitori grill. We tried the skirt wagyu and it was literally one of the best steaks I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and buttery and cooked to medium perfection on the inside. A small was more than enough for two of us, especially with an app and a pasta. The brussel sprouts side was the perfect accompaniment and were crispy, sweet and covered in parm. A bowl of brussels was massive - enough for an entire table. No room for dessert but everything looked amazing. Service was also great! It's a bit of a slow dining experience but I liked how they bring things out course by course and give you time to savor every dish. Made me feel like I was eating in Italy. Prices are definitely high but everything is so quality and portions are quite large, so it's really worth every penny. The ambiance is super romantic, small and dimly lit. Perfect for a date night! A few other things to note - BYO, so don't forget a bottle. Reservations are a must, but they seemed to have them available for most nights after 8 if you don't mind a bit of a later dinner. We also sat at the chef's counter and really liked it. It was fun to see the food get cooked and felt more spacious than some of the tight two tops. I want to try literally everything else on the menu. Cannot wait to come back. read more

La Lupa in Manalapan may be small and intimate--think three couples cozily tucked by the window--but its culinary offerings are nothing short of extraordinary. If you're a steak enthusiast, this place should be at the top of your list. We had the Kansas City Strip, and it was absolutely outstanding. Perfectly cooked, with rich, deep flavors that highlight the exceptional quality of the meat, it's the kind of steak that rivals some of the finest steakhouses around. Honestly, I'm surprised La Lupa doesn't have a Michelin star--the food here is that good. What makes La Lupa even more appealing is the BYOB policy, which adds to its charm and makes for a winning combination of top-tier cuisine and affordability. Between La Lupa and Char-Kol, it's tough to choose who does steak better, but either way, you can't lose. For a small spot, La Lupa delivers big on quality, making it a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food in an intimate setting. read more

My girlfriends and I dined here last night. We were 7 total but were told we could not put our 2 tables together. Soooo a table of 4 and then right next to our 3 friends. Now I ask u why couldn't we push the tables together and dine as the group. ? We had to ask the managers permission to accommodate after our waiter said it wasn't "allowed ". Now let's talk about the ambiance. Very dark , small and loud music with bass . Not a place you want to be in the summer for sure. The food was mid and that's being generous. Cesar salad was nothing special , gnocchi's were ok. Skirt steak for $110 was salty , lemon cow (awful). No one ate it. Halibut was OK .. again just mid . Brussels that people were raving about were very salty and too tangy for my liking. The brownie dessert was delicious but honestly u can't go wrong with a sweet brownie. After ordering our desserts and cappuccinos we were told we had 5 min left. WHAT ??? I'm sorry I have been in the restaurant Industry for over 20 yrs. I have owned establishments in the area and I'm appalled and embarrassed that this was told to us. While I understand their was other reservations comming in perhaps the seating times should be reevaluated to ensure the customers have a good experience and not be rushed to chug our desserts and coffee /espresso after spending almost $700. Needless to say im not impressed and will never go back even though I live 15 min from this restaurant read more

Normally i don't do a one time visit and review. However, this is a place my wife found on TIKTOK. We were in the area meaning south jersey. We took a shot. Hit up a wine bottle on the way to restaurant as it is B.Y.O.B . We got there and the place is quaint. There was a wait not long but something they need to get a bit better at accommodating the customers with reservations. Again not terrible but a nit picking thing for me. Now The place although a small venue is done very nice. The set up kind of has a NYC vibe and the place was hopping. The acoustics are loud but we sat at the bar which was a perfect spot. The place is tight with tables ( NYC ). Now the food. We tried the Margherita pizza and i was craving pizza for weeks. It is a neopolitan style that my wife isn't totally onboard with. She loves the NYC style pizza however we have it a shot. Well a home run. The ingredients are fresh with nothing but the best were used. My wife loved the pizza. Also to accompany the pizza they give a small serving of Calabrian chili's. I truly loved the pizza. Next up I ordered the ANOLINI DI PARMA traditional meat filling, pork jus, parmigiano fonduta, aged balsamico di modena. Once again nothing but the best ingredients used. Was delicious we used that as a side dish to the 22 oz steak we ordered and split. The steak was cooked to perfection. Many places either have it over cooked or under cooked. Not this place. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and delicious. The service was very good. Chad was accommodating and always checking in. However, the owner took customer service to another level. Dan visited every person in his restaurant over and over. He ensured that everyone is good and explained each dish and their search for perfection. My words not his. All in all these guys from Manalapan crushed it. Very enjoyable evening food service and an owner who made it a great evening. Next visit if they crush it again, it will be a 5. We are looking forward to it. Lastly, all customers were definitely satisfied with everything at La Lupa. read more

The ambiance is the drawing factor here. My food I felt was mediocre. We tried 3 appetizers: - the artichokes were decent - the tuna special was average - the meat and cheese board was a large serving and was average as well For our main meals, we had the Wagyu skirt steak. It came out cold, so that was a bit of a bummer. The taste was good, however. We also had the saltimbocca chicken which was tasty. Overall, in my opinion, for the price, you can find much better in the area. I enjoyed the experience, however, between the ambiance and the service. read more

Excellent Service. Extremely knowledgeable wait staff. Food was good but not great. Music was a bit loud.

La Lupa has been on the list for a while. Heard a lot of great things and it lived up to the hype. Started with the caesar salad which had a good crunch to it. It had ok flavor. The agnolotti was lovely. The cavatelli crab special which was a red sauce dish was decent too. The sea bass special was light and nice delicate flavor. The brussel sprouts had a good crunch and perfect side dish. The chocolate chip cookies were a nice end to the meal. Love the vibe in here. Dark and modern with an awesome aesthetic. It is in a strip mall but they really transformed this place. Next time I come I will be trying the steak. 4 stars. read more

Food was excellent. Portions were great. Service was kind and very attentive. They were very apologetic when they had to tell us they ran out of one of their entrees we had ordered. HOWEVER - the ambiance is too try-hard for what it is. It's in a strip mall next to a Dunkin drive through. It's dark, very loud (thumping house music with very loud bass made it difficult to hear), very very tight seating - expect to get up when else someone at your table needs to; maybe lose a table or two? - very warm; and in the single restroom, you can hear EVERYthing the service spoke: "did table eleven leave a tip?" "How many halibut are left?" That's to be expected but make sure you don't want your customers hearing anything bad you might say! All that to say, the food is truly fantastic. Just be aware of the whole experience - it's tiny, single unit in a strip mall - it's not as elevated as it wants to be. AND IT's BYOB! read more

Our server was very nice, but probably should've thrown in a free dessert once we told him about the chewy steak. Skip Manhattan and come here for the best modern italian cuisine this side of Northeast. The hand made rigatoni carbonara was absolutely amazing with pasta having some of the best bounce ever. We decided to try their prawn special app and Seabass. Let me tell you. The prawns were almost the size of lobsters! Our table decided on the Tomahawk as well. Although it came out perfectly cooked on their yakitori grill with japanese charcoal char. The order was very filling and decided to pack it to go. Everything was cooked to perfection with the staff being well trained and knowledgeable of their dishes. The place is cozy with only 1 bathroom unfortunately. The price is a bit higher then other restaurants in the area, but their chefs seems to be on another level higher as well when trying most spots in the surrounding area. Been a couple times and both good and service was great! VERY SMALL though, not ideal for business meetings/date night. It's like an over the top small pizza shop. You are on top of the table next to you. Really the only reason not 5 stars. One note, steaks aren't priced clearly and pretty expensive- proceed with caution. We were excited to visit La Lupa. So many good reviews on Social media. We arrived on time made for 7:00 reservation on a Saturday waited 30 minutes for our seats at the counter (which turns out to over look the pizza toppings? like yuck.) The ambiance is nice (similar to Strata in Atlantic Highlands or a mini Butcher Block) However our experience was less than stellar. Rushed Food 1st course-artichokes which were good 2nd course-bucatini which was excellent 3rd - rib eye med. rare & broccoli rabbi Unfortunately the meat was rare ( still cold). You really need to get that correct when you change $160 for a steak. We should have sent it back but we are not accustomed to sending things back. Instead "we live and we learn" and will not be returning. I would highly suggest they invest in a meat thermometer. One other comment allow enough time between seatings - having a line people waiting for your table while you are finishing your dinner made the evening feel rushed & less enjoyable. Over all 3 stars read more
