The last 3 times Ive been there my wife and I had purchased the individual pound cakes. The pound cakes have been stale. The apple cake only had 4 slices of apple in it. If they are fresh, they're great but it's hard to get them that way. Very disappointing, they sell everything , even when it should be thrown out. read more

My son bought some pastries for belated mothers day for my wife. Over a year ago, I gave this place 5 stars, based on these pastries, I wish I could change the rating to a -5. I can't begin to describe how horrible they were. One was some sort of chocolate cookie or fudge something with ton's of red whip cream. Totally discgusting. Another was a cheesecake something with red gelatenous (sp?) goo on top. A third was some sort of hazelnut, I could only eat 1/4 of it before I started to choke. As we were waiting for our order from The Bagel Nook, we decided to check this place out. It is only a few doors down and we always love desserts! We ordered 2 different types of lobster tail, a rainbow donut, eclair, peanut butter brownie, boston cream cake, and tiramisu. Overall, I would say that everything was just average. Nothing left me wanting more or wanting to return to purchase more. The peanut butter brownie was just peanut butter icing on top of a brownie. The brownie was quite dense and the icing quite heavy. It had a great flavor though. The eclair and boston cream cake were just your regular eclair and cake...nothing overly special. The lobster tail (french cream and cannoli cream) were ok. I enjoyed the french cream more as it is more light and not as heavy as the cannoli cream. But this lobster tail is not one of the better ones that I have tried. The rainbow donut was super sweet, which was a disappointment as rainbow cake is one of my favorite desserts to eat. The tiramisu was average with a very light flavor. Overall, I don't think we will be returning to this bakery. read more

If you are looking for moist cake, this is your place! The wonderful pastries are all Traditional Italian desserts!! Brings me back to my grandmother from Italy's desserts!! Ordered a vanilla cupcake with white vanilla frosting and some cookies. I'm on a cupcake kick... trying all of the local cupcakes so you don't have to. The icing was thick, like, thick like tofu. The cupcake was definitely not box made but was very plain. Bonus points for the cupcake being chilled. 3.5 on the cupcake. The cookies, which were almond based, were just very plain. Overall the prices were good for the area and the workers were nice, though slow. I'd come again if I'm in the area but wouldn't make an extra trip. read more

My favorite Italian bakery in the freehold area. Their NY cheesecake is Perfection. As are most of their cakes like the chocolate blackout. Pastries are fresh and a good selection. The owner is kind and on occasion has been known to give out free bread. They have VERY good semolina twist. It's an old school bakery with old school values. read more

The pastry cream lobster tail was crispy and delicious. I also really enjoyed the Italian rainbow cookies. The best thing I got was probably the Italian bread- just perfect outside crunch and nice and soft in the middle. The carrot cake, despite having raisins, was super dry. The cream cheese frosting was nice and thick, and not too sweet- good amount of salt in there, but just couldn't save the dry cake. The brownies had the same issue- awesome frosting, but dry and boring actual brownie. Overall, the Italian offerings were great- and anyone that can do bread and desserts is A-OK in my book. read more

La Dolce is due for a review facelift. My life decision is now to visit La Dolce any time in in Freehold or anywhere near it. It's also 1/4 bakeries under the same ownership, so I plan to make stops in Old Bridge, Staten Island, and NYC. It's a bakery leaning toward the Italian side. Envision all the typical bakery stuff, intoxicatingly sugar scent upon entry, and the addition of a hot pot of coffee ready to serve. A variety of cakes (birthday, decorative, themed, plain, and possibly photo printed too). I'm more interested in the cookies - at least 4 types of jelly sandwich cookies, anisette toast, sfogliatelle, and lots of others. Loaves of fresh bread, individual rolls (just $.50 each), stuffed breads (sausage, spinach, cheese, etc.) are all available with extra appearing around holidays. Meanwhile I just bought 2 rolls, 2 fairly large sesame cookies, and a cookie for $3. Forget the coffee chain breakfast - I'd much rather go to La Dolce! read more

Stopped here today for a treat. Cute Italian bakery that has so much to choose from it makes it difficult to decide.... Everything looks and smells delicious! I somehow narrowed it down to a chocolate horn and a raspberry mousse. Both were quite flavorful and I recommend them. Will be back to try other pastries soon! read more

This was my second visit to this bakery. First visit was pre COVID-19. We bought few different items to try. Cookies, pastry and a danish. I should have stopped in my tracks at the first sight of dirty glass showcases. But we said, give it a chance. Thumbs down. So here we are again,saying let's try again but different items. The customer service I received from Janette was top notch. I went in to order a HS graduation cake for my daughter and wanted her college logo on it. I only had a picture on my Ipad and a print was needed. She suggested I email her the pic and she then sent it to Cartridge World a few stores down for the print. The cake was beautiful.....exactly what I wanted and delicious! Choc cake with a layer if cannoli filling and a layer of choc mousse iced with whipped cream. We have recently found out about this bakery and I am so glad we did! We have ordered strawberry shortcake for family members birthdays along with some cupcakes and tarts. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. The customer service was excellent and the store was clean. There also is a curb side pick up option available if you ordered beforehand. I recently moved to the area and needed a last minute birthday cake on a Tuesday night. The selection wasn't that great but that could've been because it was a weekday in the evening so while I was hoping for a plain vanilla cake they only had various chocolate ones. I was hoping to have a name written on the cake but they were out of icing which is a bit odd for a bakery in my opinion. On the plus side the lady who assisted me was extremely kind and even offered my son a free cookie. I will go back. read more

I haven't found any bakeries out here that do justice to the world of Italian desserts. I'm not much on cakes, but I love my cannolis and my St Josephs pastries!! Of course, no meal would be complete without the famous 7 layer cookie. I have yet to find a bakery or person ANYWHERE that can rival the ones made in my old hometown of BROOKLYN! Specifically, Rispoli bakery. Sadly it is long gone as are the legendary cookies they made. While these 7 layers aren't Rispolis, they are as close as I've been able to come to the legends. If they did nothing else well here, I would give them 4 stars just for those cookies!! read more

I was happy when I happened to drive by and see a bakery. That all changed once I went inside. They have a very small variety of baked goods.They had very few cakes and hardly any breads.There were no donuts or brownies. They had some cookies and a decent amount of pastries. I have been to this location about 3 times already for my daughter's b'day cakes and I can say this with assurance that this was the last time. The cakes are good, never had a problem with the quality of the cakes, its just the customer service. The staff really does not know what much about the "made to order" cakes and I really don't think they care. Mind you I am not Italian but I know what good customer service is and I don't get it here and maybe it is because I am not Italian. Oh well, diversity is on its way, deal with it! For example as I was placing an order for a b'day cake, the phone rang and one of the ladies that was in the shop wanted the women that was taking my order to stop and get the phone because she didn't want to answer, meanwhile she was standing around doing nothing with sunglasses on! Professional, I think not. Luckily the lady did not stop taking my order if she had I would have walked out and gone to Wegmans!! During the same visit, as soon as I asked more than one question about the cake I was going to order, they right away suggested driving to the Old Bridge location since that is where they are baked at. I told them was not convenient and are you serious? I am at this location, not the old bridge location, so assist me here and now! What a joke. On the other hand, the Old Bridge location is much better. The staff at this location is more down to earth and can answer any question about any made to order cake and leave you feeling confident that the cake you ordered, you will be satisfied with in the end. My mother suggested this bakery for a last minute party so I went eager to purchase as many desserts as I could. Understandably, I anticipated a small bakery being unable to accommodate the amount of pastries I needed but expected someone to be someone empathetic and do what they could PLUS sell a good amount of baked goods- isnt that the goal in a BUSINESS? This woman at the counter was rude, disheveled, and unhelpful. After telling me she couldnt sell me the amount I needed I said, "OK so what CAN you sell me? do you have any more of those in the back?" got a short and rude "NO" and she walked away as if my business was not wanted. I have had quite a different experience from the previous customer. I used to drive 15 miles to a bakery in my old neighborhood after I moved to Freehold. My new neighbors swore by La Dolce, and I decided to try it . Now I buy ALL of my pastries, cookies, and cakes from there, and have been for about ten years. Everything is fresh and delicious. I patronize La Dolce on a regular basis and am very familiar with the staff, and they are warm, sociable, and funny---very enjoyable to deal with. When I custom order a cake, it is exactly how I ordered it and I was never disappointed. I have four children that I buy birthday cakes for, plus other events for them, as well as holiday pies, pastries, cakes, and bread, and I often give their outstanding cookie trays to my favorite clients. I recommend them wholeheartedly. Perhaps the previous customer with the negative rating was so preoccupied with the ethnicity of the ownership that she is too stiff to enjoy the atmosphere of "amore" in this wonderful establishment.
